The AMD Driver Thread

I gotta say this new AMD overdrive layout works really well, i love the way i can set a specific overclock for each game. Matt see if ya can get them to add a voltage adjustment to it and we will be sorted for future cards. :)

yep liked the idea myself, i have my fury overclocked for tomb raider and leave it at stock for less demanding games like cs go

I'm liking the new urgency with the drivers. Keep it up!

+1 to that

Anyone get the feeling that RTG are turning the corner right now. Things are starting to pick up and hopefully a bit of sunlight is starting to come up over the horizon.

Well Done RTG/AMD and Mr Koduri

:D

Ok, I dont normally mess with stuff or use AB or any other program to tinker much with my GPU or overclock any processors.
So, how do I find out if my Fury is suffering from the bouncing clocks thing?(In all fairness it doesnt seem to be showing signs of it). And, if it is suffering, is there a tutorial on the T'internet about using AB or Clockblocker to counter the issue?

cheers me dears

First of all, AB can't lock Fiji's clocks. This was already stated by Unwinder during release of AB 4.2. To get Clockblocker to work, you only need to install it, and run it. I personally only launch clockblocker in games where I have problems with core clocks.

Easiest software that don't require gpu core is gpu-z. It doesn't even need installation, just launch the exe file when you want it on, and doesn't even launch at start of windows.

Generally you get downclocking in 99% (I dont' dare to say 100%) of games. Even in recent AotS benchmark under dx12 you get them, but there the powertune is working properly and raises clocks back very fast.

You need to run gpu-z at 0.1 sec sensor time to notice them in that game as they happen so fast (this rules out powertune having high latency that was said in other thread).

I have 2 monitors and just run GPU-Z on the other monitor. I guess you could run it behind your game but then it would be hard to work out where you would expect clock speed to drop (menus etc). My card does the clock bouncing thing and the game suffers for it in Elite Dangerous but weirdly not in GTA5.

In Elite, does it stay at lower clocks for longer period of time with 100% gpu usage?

What games are you getting bouncing in? I'm also using a Fury and I had the issue when I first installed Crimson (day one) but since the first update I've had no issues. I run gpu-z in the background and simply stretch out the graphs to have a look at how it was during gameplay after I finish playing and I get a solid 1040 mhz (overclocked Tri-x model) with occasional dips to 950 at it's lowest. Obviously if I die etc it drops while it's reloading but that's about it.

I used to get it running around the 300 to 600 area but as I said since the first Crimson update it's been fine, If you tell me what games you are experiencing clock bouncing in I'll try them here.

I also had temperature issues with Afterburner on even though it was set to not touch anything (especially fans) so it's no longer turned on.

It is hard to be definite as it is so variable (which I can imagine is giving AMD problems fixing it) but I have on occasion seen 300MHz and low frame rates coming into space stations etc. Weirdly, sometimes when I'm using the FSD, the frequency gradually ramps up to full speed over 30 seconds or so.

Thanks for the offer, to be honest I've been locking the frequency at 1080 with Trixx more recently but haven't had a great deal of time for gaming so I haven't installed the 16.2s yet

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. :)

GTA V was terrible for me on the Crimsons, was stuttering like buggery as my cores kept going up and down, up and down constantly, one second i was getting around 100fps, the next i was getting around 26/28fps, as my cores were crashing to around 350 all the time, was like this GOW Ultimate video running on the Nano using the Crimsons (although i didn't get the pausing) :-

All my other games were like that too because of the cores up and down, up and down, well, apart from The Evil Within, that was the only game where my core locked at max, and ran perfect.

That Legit Review of the XFX Fury Pro crashing, stuttering etc... on them is spot on.

I never tried ClockBlocker, as it wasn't around at the time, and i won't bother trying it now with them, so sticking with my perfect 15.9.1 BETAs, as ive just had my fill of un-installing and re-installing the buggers umpteen times.

See, this is what I mean, GTA5 was fine for me. God knows what's going on but it must be a hell of a job trying to resolve it if the same games are fine for some and not others.

Just installed a Sapphire 380 Nitro and the 16.2.1s are garbage. The only game I tried was GTAV and it was awful. I even tried turning settings down to improve performance but rather than get better, it got much, much worse.

So I uninstalled them and used the 15.9.1s I saw mentioned a page or 2 ago and they're fine.

Yeah they're great drivers, i just don't know how well they'd handle the latest games, or upcoming ones, not very well id guess, so we're stuck.
