The AMD Driver Thread

I'm impressed with the doom update driver! Only thing is now I'm getting the weird CTD without any errors... like I'm hitting alt F4 or something lol. On 16.5.2 I could play for hours and never crash, today with new driver it's about every 20 minutes :(

Not a driver issue mate, it's a known game issue. Been happening for both amd and nvidia users. Wait for patch

I was running the 16.3.2 (I think) and it was ok, then upgraded to 16.4.X and my screen now occasionally flickers in Windows. I upgraded to 16.5.2.1 and it's still happening. anyone else getting this?

I upgraded using the Crimson app's update thingy, if that makes a difference.

God damn it, both my 295x and 290x are both throttling down to around 600mhz core in BF4 and just can't get to the bottom of it... temps are in mid 60's on both cards? Any ideas?

What does Afterburner or Overdrive show? For some reason, every time I update drivers Afterburner drops my clocks from 1000/1250 to 400/600 and I have to remember to go back into Afterburner and re-activate my profile. Only ever happens once immediately after a new driver install, so just put it down to a quirk or Afterburner.

The only other option I can think of is that you're limited by something else and your cards are only working as hard as they need to. Have you got any frame rate limiting software running (Crimson's built in one maybe?) or Vsync and you're hitting the limit?

I've tried with VSYNC enabled and disabled. It's also only after a couple of minutes, the grahs of CPU/GPU start spiking and afterburner just shows the clocks going up and down. Yet afterburner they're set, the temps are fine... got no other software on. So, then I disabled afterburner put the cards to stock, then once again after a couple of minutes jerking and spiking everywhere again... it's doing head in as the fps are >100 all the time, but the game just starts lagging and jerking as the cards start amending themselves.

You can see below I start the game, run around fine and cards are like this... then after 90 seconds or so, graphs goes mental and throttling. Howver I have just noticed that according to AF, my other two cards aren't being used? WTF

EDIT: Just deleted drivers and AF, and reinstalled all fresh latest versions, going to see what this does.

EDIT: Nope made zero difference, turns to a lag fest and throttling again :-(

Go into Crimson/Overdrive. Turn power efficiency off if you have it on. Alternatively if you dont have this, download clockblocker and try to use this to force maximum clocks. If temps are ok, there is some kind of power throttling going on probably. Worth a try anyway.

Won't have a chance tonight (family stuff) but can fire up BF4 tomorrow and see if the same thing happens with my rig. Not as awesome as yours, :D but might be close enough to see if the same issue kicks in, and if so what solutions there are. Post back if you find the solution, but Pete C's post sounds like it could well be the way to go.

when I had BF4 problems I open notepad put this into it:

RenderDevice.MantleEnabled 1
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4
RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit 2
GameTime.MaxVariableFPS 144

like that ... and save as user.cfg in your main folder in "Origin Games" location.|

been trouble free for agesss in that title, 1200+ hours played used

7970 CFX @ 1080P 120hz

290X CFX @ 1080P 120hz - 1440P 144hz

FURY X CFX @ 1440P 144hz ....

game runs perfect!!!

Can't find the setting anywhere fella?

Clocklocker doesn't lock my cores, same throttling happening.
