The AMD Driver Thread

Since I got a rx 480 I get video stutter when I enable duplicate screen(np when using extend),have tried to change drivers but the problem persists.
Coming from a 4850 that didnt have that problem I assume its driver related, does anyone else know what could be the issue ?

RX 480 still a relatively brand spanking new card, it takes awhile for them to reproduce, diagnose, fix bugs that might exist in the software I'm guessing it'll be fixed in one of the next few updates, I think this is how it goes with new videocards.

I was watching a film through Kodi yesterday and my RX 480 kicked into full gear about halfway through. Anyone else had this while playing back video files? I'm on the latest drivers, using Trixx to overclock to 1345/2175.

Had two complete crashes that needed a hard reset since getting the 470, could they be driver related? One was in a game on the character select screen clicking the button to enter, the other was just browsing the web when i clicked on a tab in Firefox. Both times the screen froze and the drrrrrr noise came out the speakers, you know the noise. On 16.9.1 yesterday and the other was on 16.8.2.

let me know how the drivers go :) im still on 16.6.2

I cannot speak for Polaris users, but on Fiji the latest drivers have been extremely good for me.

Even got a slight FPS boost in WoW. :)

+1 for me too

Been great so far. If Tonyturbo78 is happy then 16.9.1 must be a great set of drivers, as that flickering has been bugging him for ages. Glad it's all sorted for you dude.

I used to have issues with Doom and it crashed on loading new levels and then wouldnt load at all (Documented issues)....but the other night after I installed 16.9.1, I had the longest session of over 4 hours and not a single crash in sight.....I'm a happy bunny and looking forward to getting some fan curves sorted and a bit of an overclock on that 6700K.
:D

Tehehehehe

I come across as hard to please huh ;) honestly though jokes aside, these have been very good, not perfect because flicker is still evident in some game menus and loading screens but on desktop i've not seen it once since.

Performance, freeysnc, crossfire all working pretty damn nicely so kudos finally, I'm 90% happy. Crossfire is never going to be amazing in new titles, but for the titles I mainly play, crossfire is at least giving me a boost.

No flicker for me, but I found the oddest little issue at times.

In Adobe Premiere Pro during playback, I might occasionally / very rarely, get a black flicker in the playback window. Almost as if it's skipped a few frames.

I thought it was an issue with the recordings at first, but just playing back that scenes in the playback window in PP doesn't replicate it.

Seems entirely random, and isn't even all that noticeable to others; just me. :/

Not an issue for work or the end encoded process; but just a little observation. It's my only fault with the drivers so far; if it even is a fault. It could most likely just be Premiere Pro skipping frames as the software can barely utilise hardware effeciantly :p

flickering still evident I'm afraid in certain situation, noticeable when Freesync is enabled and a YouTube video is being watched. The video being played flickers softly, but the eyes can definitely pick it up. Another report being sent as it's still not 100% fixed.

if I have a game open and youtube, I will notice the game lagging until I close youtube

When I had a 970 I never had this issue but now I have a 470 I have this issue

i3 6100
470 4GB

Anyone know

You'll probably find the cards clocks are dropping to "playing video" levels rather than the higher "gaming levels". Easiest fix is to turn off hardware acceleration in your browser.

As Confused Stu replied to the other guy, try disabling hardware acceleration in the browser Tony might be the same thing, the GPU in video clocks with freesync enabled (over max refresh) causing the flickering?!.
Its not perfected by any means just yet but we are getting very close. A few more observations: when your in a loading screen the flickering is normal as the your pc & the game breifly becomes unresponsive (or less responsive)

and if you run any game in Crossfire for up to or just over an hour, take note of the visual fluidity on-screen then CTRL+ESC out & back in or re-launch the game engine
(some games change graphic settings and then just revert changes) you'll notice slowly over time freesync comes "out of sync??!" or has lesser smoothing effect over time after a long duration. simple fix is to just either do that or disable/re-enable it in RADEON settings.

but by all means the technology is awesome and I would wholeheartedly recommend!!!

Just a heads-up in case anyone faces the same thing I've been bashing my head against for the past 10 minutes.

Upgraded to the latest 16.9.1 from 16.8.2, and noticed my 290's idle memory clock stuck at 1250 where it normally idles at 150. I'm running multiple monitors but each at 1920x1080 so my memory downclocks at idle the same as a single monitor setup.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but still the same. I then checked the refresh rates of each (in Win10, right click background, Display Settings, then Advanced Display Settings at the bottom, then select each monitor in turn and click Display Adapter Properties at the bottom, then the Monitor tab). Two of my monitors had changed to 59Hz where two were still set to 60Hz. Put everything back to 60Hz, and the GPU memory dropped to 150MHz as expected. :)

Just mentioning in case anyone else hits the same thing.

If I leave the battlenet client open in background while browsing my monitor flickers black randomly

anyone else :P

I think when two hardware accelerated applications are active at the same time problems occur black flicker/freeze/stutter

I dont use freesync

Edit: Wattman went not responding and now I cant replicate the problem?

wattman seems to crash upon entering a looooot

The Battle.net client is notoroius for causing issues on NVIDIA and AMD hardware with it's hardware accelleration. So far as crashing drivers for many people.

I strongly suggest turning it off, as it really serves no benefit at all.
it even interferes with game capture software as for some silly reason it always tries to take priority over the games.

I spoke way too soon on these drivers. Unfortunately they've been a bit of a disaster for any graphically intensive games :/

Freshly installed 16.9.1 using DDU before (in safe mode) and have been able to play old/simple games (FTL, Deponia), but seen the following crashes on others:

- Batman: Arkham Origins - Loads to start screen, then crashes with a "Fatal Error! Address = 0xc739fd (filename not found) "
- Shadow of Mordor - Loads to start screen then "Video Device Removed or Reset"
- Dota 2 - Runs for about 5 mins, then screen freezes in Windowed mode, goes black in full screen mode (sound and controls still work)

I've now rolled back to 16.7.3 (again using DDU in between) and it's all working fine, no freezes or crashes anywhere.

Setup is a 4GB Nitro RX480, Windows 10 Pro, LG Freesync 29'' ultrawide

I don't have Gaming Evolved or any other recording software installed and the errors were received with custom fan and wattman profiles and when resetting everything back to default :/
