The AMD Driver Thread

I would think so, probably a XBox 360 pad.

I have a Logitech, i like it, i'm comfortable with it, it never works with EA or Ubisoft car games, if you look at the game pad Dialogue its Microsoft's 360 pad. And they never allow button customisation, either you have a Microsoft approved pad or its Keyboard. X360 Emulatour used to work but i think M$ took offence to that and now they don't.

Codemasters its plug in and play with the Logitech, no ###### about, it just works right from the get go.

So i don't bother buying Ubisoft or EA car games, they are more hassle than they are worth.

It is, I agree it's not nice being forced to use something other than what you want to use but in my opinion an Xbox controller for PC gaming is essential, It's a nice controller to use and I use it for side scrollers and for now as a wheel replacement, Theyre not overly expensive so I don't see why someone wouldn't get one if they keep running into games they can't play without one, If it's on principal that's up to you but a bit silly if you ask me.

So driver issue or hardware issue?

Had my 290 Vapor-x for around a year. In the space of about 11 months, I had 2 black screens that required a reset. Both times I was just browsing, nothing intensive, but I thought nothing of it, so infrequent, so meh.

Recently though, I've had two in a short period of time. One about a 2 weeks ago and one just now. The first I was just browsing. The 2nd I was watching twitch and the screen just went black, sound carried on playing for a 10 seconds or so, and went as well (no buzzing or anything, just silence). Again, crashed the system completely and needed a restart. One thing to note, is that twitch deployed html5 player recently, and I did notice, for some reason the memory clocks keep spiking high with that (1400Mhz), while the core sits at idle speeds.

I'm on 16.7.3, just drivers being meh? I did change case recently, power cables etc all look snug and both times have been when just browsing, nothing intensive. None of the black screens have been. System has always been fine when gaming or when idle on desktop, all 4 black screens have always come when browsing.

Monitor still has signal (120Hz@1080), it's just black until the system is reset/powered off.

If it matters, the card has Hynix memory & the power cable (from a hx750i), is one with 2 pci-e on the end. Should I try switching to two seperate cables?

Like I said in this post here it's due to how the memory controller voltage is tied with the core voltage, and memory clocks when spiking up and down will cause the lockup/black screen if the core is still at idle. Some monitors over 120hz and 144hz or especially dual monitors will be affected more than a single 60hz screen.
My r7 360 used to do it until I modified the 2d p-states.

Ok, thanks. Looking it does appear that the core clock sits idle, while the memory does seem to frequently spike to 1400Mhz when browsing. Oddly enough, turning off hardware accel just to check, the memory still clocks up, accel is definitely off as the cpu usage is higher, I'm guessing it might be because of high refresh screen.

From a quick search, modifing 2d p-states is a bios edit? or is there software that can do it now.

There does seem to be a topic on Sapphires forum about a new vbios that seems to sort it for some, so might give them a poke if there is no other choice than editing the bios.
