The AMD Driver Thread

Tried installing the latest drivers as I was having issues in Horizon Zero Dawn on my 5700XT. Had issues enough installing those previous drivers, kick off the install of the 22.4.1 driver.... and it failed again. Download the driver manually rather than letting it auto update, again the same 1603 general error during installation. Have had more issues with AMD drivers in the past month than I did for years of using Nvidia, so frustrating.
Error 1603 is usually some sort of local system issue. Try the suggestions mentioned here if you have not already.

I got directed to that link by the driver, I've tried a few of the steps. Namely removing all the old C++ redists (a few had Chinese/Japanese descriptions/uninstall menus... which was weird?!) and ran the various DISM and SFC commands. Dism found and fixed something, although I didn't fancy trawling through the logs to see what. After a reboot the driver was installed ok, despite the error.
Initially fired up HZD to be greeted with with an even more annoying glitch than previously. Rather than shaking trees/ropes, I had constant hud flickering and black frames. Jumped to another game for a bit with no issues, then back to HZD and it was ok again.
Fingers crossed it's sorted itself out!
Hopefully that’s sorted it.

I have to wonder why someone whos supposodly had nothing but 16 years worth of "unstable drivers" would continue to buy the cards year in year out. Glutton for punishment?

To basically say the drivers haven't improved in 16 years by branding them all as "unstable" is ludicrous. Even back in the old ati rage days I had very little in the way of driver issues.
Most stability issues which are cited as driver issues are typically caused by unstable overclocks somewhere in the system, it's very common.

I can't remember the last time I had a driver timeout that wasn't either the result of an unstable overclock/undervolt (CPU/Memory/GPU) or a dirty OS.

will be avoiding these -

  • Stuttering may be experienced while playing Call of Duty®: Warzone™ on the Caldera map with some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon® RX 6900 XT Graphics.
Why release drivers in this state, just wait until youve fixed the issue.
It's been an issue reported by some users for a while now. I've been playing Warzone myself frequently (on a 6750 XT/6900 XT) and never really experienced the issue myself. That said, it's under investigation. I am currently using the preview driver and will be updating to this today 22.5.1 driver today.

22.5.2 was WHQL on 31 May, this new release date of 20 Jun came weeks later but nothing else change haha

Maybe @LtMatt can shed some light? Was there a new driver and has it been withdrawn again or just not linked on the driver page?
Think it adds support for a few recently released mobile SKUs, but not 100% sure.

I should add that these questions (and any other AMD related questions) should be directed to @AMD_Vik. :)

Just noticed something, I was recording in Star Citizen with ReLive and it doesn't seem to handle dark scenes all that well in this particular game, I tried the same scene with Action by Mrillis, Paid recording tool on Steam, And there's no dark pixelated patches, Limit of ReLive maybe ?

What settings were used on each app? AVC or HEVC on ReLive? What about Mirillis? I know Mirillis can record AVI files which are huge and very high quality whereas ReLive would be lower quality and more compressed.

I found the newest driver to be completely awful, in fact it introduced a subtle sluggishness even for normal OS use. Besides that it removed HDR support & borked GPU sensor logging for software like Afterburner etc. I'll sit tight with 22.5.1 until next proper release sorts itself out but this has been the worst driver release from AMD in years ime.
Using 22.8.2, HDR support in every game and MSI AB overlay reporting working fine here.

HDR support for 10-Bit pixel format found in the Global Graphics section of AMD Software (this is different from 10-Bit colour support (and HDR) which is still supported by using 10 Bpc in the display tab of AMD Software) was removed in 22.7.1. Key point here is that this will only affect 10-Bit OpenGL apps, like Photoshop. All games should work fine with HDR as before. There is a lot of confusion online about this for some reason.

The new opengl drive is great from a performance perspective but there's an annoying issue where I can't alt-tab (it loses focus, but a frozen picture of the game remains), so I have to like switch to windowed mode (alt-enter). It's like this in the windows preview driver, 22.7.1, 22.8.1, 22.8.2. Works fine with older drivers but their performance is terrible in OGL.
Please submit a bug report.

I'm talking about enabling HDR in windows. That option is completely gone for me on 22.8.2 & is a common issue reported for this release. W10 btw.
I know, I helped a few folks that said exactly the same thing as you. Basically that HDR support had been removed and the toggle has vanished in Windows 10.

The steps below fixed the issue in each case and the HDR toggle was visible again in Windows 10.

Try this and see if it helps:
  1. Perform a Factory Reset, (don't tick keep user settings)

  2. Restart PC
  3. Reinstall 22.8.2
  4. Restart PC.
  5. Check Windows Display Properties
If that doesn't fix it for some reason, please submit a bug report.

Tried 22.2.2 and gets a bit further but now randomly crashes in game - looks like it's actually a Fortnite issue though

Epic have posted that they are investigating increased number of crashes on PC following yesterdays Fortnite Update.
Yes, I tested this yesterday and reproduced it. Crashed on the menu screen after a few minutes sitting idle. Looks like a possible game issue atm.

Learn something new. I never thought that the GPU driver messes with DWM sync.
I need to check what my GPU sync is set too should be what ever default is.
Default is king and is off unless app specified, but some folk think it needs to be set to always off. For gaming purproses it only applies to OpenGL anyway (in terms of actually enabling vsync) so it never needs to be adjusted beyond the stock setting.

have they fixed vsync not working with anything but opengl apps... amd please get your priorities right if you havent

i am a bit out of touch.. vega 64 being my last amd gpu

edit: it helps a lot in older games where you dont have an in-game vsync setting, please just blindly emulate nvidia on this
Vsync can be enabled in game for apps. It can't be activated through AMD Software for DX/Vulkan.

pls listen to me once.. last month i played a game called Freedom Force, a direct x 8 game that doesnt have an in-game vsync option, would be really good to force that from the amd control panel
and also the ability to change resolutions from the control panel (again i am out of touch on this), but thats not a big priority because i could do that from windows
Understood, but thats not possible as DX apps are not supported for Vsync enablement in AMD Software. It's unlikely to be added too as the interest in such old games is minimal.

Resolutions/refresh rates can be changed via Windows Display Properties, so no need for this duplicate option in AMD Software.
