The AMD Driver Thread

What does "support for dishonoured 2" actually mean though? It's just a fluff statement. Does that mean on 16.11.2 or earlier this game won't work? No definitely not. It's great they are bringing out drivers for each new game release, but is anything actually changing from the previous driver?

How's about some crossfire drivers instead of pointless "support for"

Unfortunately Tony, as you are aware you and many others with more than one card are in the minority when it comes to support for XF/SLI. Also I imagine that they are probably putting a bit more effort into DX12/MGPU from what we can gather with Deus Ex. I think that native XF support will wither and die when they get fully into MGPU (If Fully getting into it is what they mean to do - I hope it is).

I always play a game with the drivers I got currently installed to see if it plays well. I normally only upgrade if there is a specific game issue or if everyone on here says that the driver set is a good one.

AMD get slaughtered if they have no game ready drivers for day one and get slaughtered if they do have them. Bless'em LOL :p

Yup, looks like they've gotten a LOT better this last 5/6 months! I can only hope Crossfire improves at the same rate once they get on it, it's been a sorely missed option

Well apart from a few hiccups as AMD and Nvidia have with driver revisions from time to time, I have felt that it has been a whole lot better for AMD since Crimson came out (For me, at least).

As for XF/SLI I think more effort will be put into DX12 MGPU than the old methods of MGPU. I do hope that both companies put more effort into any MGPU solutions as it would be nice to see solid support for those who require it.
I also think that more people would consider multi-gpu if the support was more robust and that it worked more often than not. I certainly would.

:)

I like the idea of CF, but it's always seemed like such a hassle! I can see the advantage if you buy an older 2nd hand card to pair up with your own... could end up with a bit of a performance boost for not much money.

It amazes me how so many enthusiasts buy into crossfire and then expect it to magically be better than it was beforehand. Supports dire, that's nothing new, The phrase 'eyes wide shut' comes to mind.

In it's current state I agree wholeheartedly. With better driver support, better scaling and more confidence in MGPU then I think other enthusiasts would probably partake. :D

Actually I was originally considering getting two 480s (One in new year and one a few months later) to give me near to 1080 performance, but only If MGPU gets more time and effort. Obviously Vega is going to be considered and if that is good then it will probably be what I go for.

Anyone who goes into MGPU right now has to go into it knowing there could be, at worst no support for a particular game or having to wait for driver support and maybe tweaking needed to get the best out of it. It is far from flawless as we all know.

Ok great, I just want AMD to be a mGPU option in time for when Navi hits :)

Crossfire was incredible 2 years ago, almost every game on my 7950 crossfire back then was a fantastic experience, it just worked out the box most of the time.

But anyway I digress, my question was what does "support" actually mean, doesn't a driver support every game? What's so different with this driver than the previous driver for dishonoured 2 (or any new release with a new game ready driver) you don't need a new driver with every game release, dishonoured 2 will work no differently on the new driver compared to the older driver I bet.

Well interestingly now... latest patch fix, everything ULTRA and HBAO enabled BAR lighting effects set to medium and hey presto 55-65fps at 5670x1080... happy with that until i decide what new GPU's to buy... not sure if it's latest driver or what but tonight, running like a sex machine

Well, I guess a game ready driver has a few tweaks done in favour of the specific game, however as we all know this could break a few other things along the way. I always wait for other posters general opinions on a new driver set before updating mine.

And on that note, what are 16.11.3 drivers like.....any good?

It probably means they have done some work to reduce CPU overheard and improve compatibility with GCN which is a bit ridiculous when you think that the developers will spend most of the time optimising the game on Consoles wich are all AMD tech anyway.

They seem to be perfect bar one thing, ballroom flickering under trifire again... this was removed and now come back in, however performance wise, seems spot on now... would be nice to get a little bit more performance but hey...
