The AMD Driver Thread

Wondering if anyone can help me with this, I expect it's intended behaviour but perhaps there's a way to disable it.

Since moving to my 290x when my monitor comes out of suspended state Windows plays the "Device unplugged, device plugged" sounds and the screen flickers once after it comes on.

None of the other GPUs have done this, and the annoyance is the single flicker resets the mouse to the middle of the screen so if I go to click something too quickly before the flicker that action gets interrupted.

Windows also plays the "device plugged" sound if the monitor is completely off and you turn it on. It seems this GPU reports the displays attached to it in a different manner than my older GPUs have, anyone know how to change this behaviour to eliminate this flicker?

Yeah, called Crimson now. It includes overclocking and settings + game settings.

I think he is referring to the ability of GFE to tune your game settings automatic. If that is indeed what he is referring to then he has to use Raptr but i would not recommend that personally. Even AMD has stopped bundling it with their drivers as no one really seemed to like it.

Well I've installed the updated 16.12.2 drivers and I can finally use a ReLive driver set that doesn't flicker with dual monitors!

I haven't dared touch WattMan or any other overclocking utility though.

And can Relive now record your game in a window? And not just a full screen game or your entire desktop?

ie: I run many games in a borderless window, and happily record them with other apps. Relive is the only once I've encountered that cannot!?

Afraid not. I just tried it with Planet Coaster in borderless window mode. A message displays saying I have to enable desktop recording.

Ridiculous!

Not being funny.. But seeing has this is AMD's first approach at releasing a driver version able to record why should they cater to a user base so small on release?

The amount of people that record full screen games will out number them who record borderless.
It's far from ridiculous tbh and more a nice feature that hopefully will be added one day.
Post on the Reddit forum AMD watch that space a lot if it's a hit am sure it's something that could be added.

Don't take this wrong way just giving my own opinion on it.

Fair point... But I suspect a lot of folks do run games in "windows".

I would agree with you but how meny of them even record.
Recording alone is a small market compared to people that just play games.
I do agree though it would be a nice feature and am sure it will be added. Am not sure if they is any limitation on enabling borderless recording do you know if Nvidia records borderless?
That will maybe give an indication if they is a limit GPU driver can do.

It's any form of windowed, not just borderless...

All I know is it prevents me from using it, so I'm back with Windows 10 DRV... I'm much prefer to use ReLive as surely that would be a better solution to use with an AMD card?!

Performance would be the main difference I would expect AMD driver to be better. It's been a while since I tested Windows DVR I remember performance being decent.

Im surprised they released 16.12.2 instead of 17.1
But looks like only some bug fixing, nothing new and exciting.

Anyhow. They didn't broke anything. Something that wasn't the case with the Nvidia drivers when I had the 1080. You had to pray every time......
