The AMD Driver Thread

Ridiculous!

I quite often look to the skies with my arms outstreched at a lot of comments that have a pop at AMD for this or that. I mean they have just released the biggest update for 12 months with a lot of features that they think we want and performance bumps and it seems that, all a lot of people want to do is have a rant at them because something isnt quite 100% from the first release.

AMD put out something and within seconds there are many people that either want to jump on it and poo poo it straight away or have a whinge that something isnt perfect whereas Nvidia make mistakes or dont quite get something right and it's played down or swept under the carpet on these forums.

Look guys they both make mistakes or have problems with drivers and they both do their best to sort fixes, so all I am saying is give them all a chance to do their thing without jumping straight on the whinge wagon.

We must remember that PCs are made of so many different parts from different vendors and sometimes I think it's a small miracle that our machines work at all to be honest :p

ReLive is basically Display Capture, like in OBS, it'll just record everything on the display, windowed or borderless (i think it does the same with full screen games too, needs testing), it works pretty well for me at least, i lose 1 or 2 fps while recording.. problem is AMD have put an 'in-game' option in the Recording Resolution options which is dumb cuz it still records everything shown on the display, which is misleading and can trigger these complaints, just take the in-game option out until it works as it should do, right now it just does the same as choosing 1080p, 1440p etc.

Moving on to Freesync, if i can maintain 60fps in a game and frame limit the fps to 60, will the 48hz - 72hz be ok for my needs? Im looking at this monitor below here

Samsung S24F350H

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...s-widescreen-lcd-monitor-black-mo-22e-sa.html

Its a PLS Panel and i want to have a nicer image quality, but with a 4ms response time, this shouldnt affect smoothness while running Freesync right? I'll just notice ghosting a bit more?

My only other option with my budget is the AOC G2460VQ6 but i dont really want another TN Panel, i have 2 already which will go either side of the new monitor :)

OBS hooks the .exe to capture just the game. So for relive to do the same, AMD would need to add an option to grab the exe like obs does wouldn't they? rather than just capture the cards output like it does now.

What's the deal with frame rate target control. So far I've not had much success with it, the only game I've gotten it to work on has been Arkham Origins.

Most games it seems to just do nothing and I have to resort to rtss to do the job. Am I doing something wrong, or does it just not work properly?

Some games it will need you too delete the profile and manually add the games location. It seems that some game that are now on the C: driver dont auto run.

When that happened to me it was because the profile was disabled. Under each game in the Radeon settings it will say enables or disabled. Make sure it's enabled.

Having trouble using Wattman to overclock my 2 x R9 290. Was running 1155 core and 1350 on memory in afterburner and i can't even overclock more than a couple of percent before i get lines all over the screen in wattman.

From what I've read and been told I'm not meant to use FRTC with Freesync, I came away with the understanding that Freesync would keep the fps in check at the top meaning FRTC is not needed, But it doesn't do that, Or at least it isn't doing that for me.

I have a 75hz ultrawide Freesync panel and I was originally using FRTC but after reading a conversation about it in this thread (I think it was this one) that also supplied a link to one of the AMD bigwigs saying not too use FRTC with Freesync because it has a negative impact on response times and it is not needed, I stopped using it. But now the fps runs wild at the top.
Any thoughts???

Robert from AMD says we should be using vsync with freesync for best results mainly at the lower end and it will also keep frame rate in check.

Tbh I have tested Freesync with FRTC or msi afterburner frame limiter and Freesync still working so I not truly sure why he him self says not to use it.

Not to mention that vsync state is not something that desirable either. Normally it has not been an issue for me but there are some titles where i have experience the classic vsync input lag if you can maintain max fps/hz.

That said i have never had issues with a frame limiter and freesync. Its actually required of me in SWTOR just to mention one game otherwise i get stutter end if i hit the vsync top(with freesync enabled).

For some reason with 16.12.2 I can no longer play DOOM, it goes through the motions at startup but when it finally gets to the main menu WattMan crashes and I get:

and Radeon Setting crashes, nice!
