The AMD Driver Thread

I'm sure there was talk of something that they wanted to offloaded the performance hit from aa to something new on a gpu once to do this but nothing ever came of it, its remembering it is why i brought it up. This was many years ago tho. Unless im remembering wrong tho i did find this when googling and i wonder if that is sorta what i meant but instead of the chip on the gpu its in a cable of all places instead lol. This thing, Marseille Inc. mCable Gaming Edition.

The Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.1 installation package contains the following:

  • Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.1 Driver Version 20.20.33.02 (Windows Driver Store Version 27.20.12033.2007)

Not yet installed these, but I'm back on 20.8.3 WHQL after having used the last few on an RX Vega.

It continues to be broken both for Vega 8 and Polaris 11.
Black screen in Microsoft Edge when Radeon Image Sharpening is enabled via Radeon Settings and Edge's own hardware acceleration is on, too.

How is it possible that everything worked flawlessly till 20.8.2 and now all versions since 20.8.3 are broken?

I like RIS on in windows new browser as it works there other than chrome. Im on vega 56 and using 20.9.2 drivers. Makes watching old low res tv shows in browsers a bit nicer. Also i can use the amd video settings too.

I use RIS and have had no issues with Edge black screening, weird.

This is with Radeon RX 570? If yes, then Polaris 20 has no problems.

All OK here as well, no black screen (Vega).

Radeon RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 all fine here, as well.

Probably Radeon RX 5700 XT down to RX 5500 XT all fine?

So, how to find what causes the black screen both with Polaris 11 (Baffin) and Vega 8?

To uninstall everything with DDU?

If i dont use ddu ive hd black screens before, so i always use ddu. Tho even with ddu i had black screens with 20.9.1 but 20.9.2 seems to have fixed that.

If I understand correctly, 20.9.1 WHQL broke the compatibility between RIS and Edge for your card?
What about later versions like the most recent 20.11.1?

Top image is how Microsoft Edge (with Radeon Image Sharpening ON) renders the forum, while the bottom is how Google Chrome renders the forum.
You can see that the clarity, alignments of lines and fonts are quite different:

Yeah thats not ris thats just using a different browser which renders a website differently based on their code they use and formatting.

Radeon Image Sharpening only really would affect videos/games and maybe images but not websites full of text and boxes of color.

No i wasnt on about RIS, i was just saying about which driver was stable i.e no black screens. Im not touching anything above 20.9.2 for now, these drivers are fine. Plus theres nothing in the new drivers worth getting i.e faster fps or features so if thats the case i dont want em.

It is Radeon Image Sharpening. When disabled, Edge becomes just like Chrome or meh!

Ouch at that known issues list! So 20.11.2 enables RX6800 support yet 5 big game titles may experience crashing if you use Raytracing.

This hdmi scaling issue is taking the mick now. I appreciate it probably affects few but even so, if you are one of the few it affects its a pain in the arse to see it passed over on every release

Please excuse my ignorant question...

Our lounge PC basic spec is i5 6600k, G43 mobo, RX580 GPU. It's been connected to the 32" LG TV for years, but I've finally just set up my BenQ XL2730 (? ~7 years old, 144Hz freesync) in there too even though my Black Friday X99 special has appeared dead for ~14 months. AMD drivers are a little old, Feb '20 iirc.

Is it easily configurable to have independent activities sent to LG and BenQ at the same time eg. better half watches Youtube vid on LG, while I browse the interweb or even play Rocket League (a fairly low power demand game compared to many) on the BenQ?
