The AMD Driver Thread

This hdmi scaling issue is taking the mick now. I appreciate it probably affects few but even so, if you are one of the few it affects its a pain in the arse to see it passed over on every release

I have just about all of the fancy Radeon features disabled as they cause nothing but trouble on the games I play. I do check that the key offenders don’t get enabled by default when I upgrade the drivers every once in a blue moon.

I've been running Dual monitor DP + HDMI on a vega 64 and no issues outside when windows suddenly updates and everything dies due to it. Now I'm using a 5700(XT) and dual monitor setup, no issues with scaling, performance, or black screens. Makes me wonder if it's a platform issue/incompatibility or something like that for those of you who sadly have issues.

Please excuse my ignorant question...

Our lounge PC basic spec is i5 6600k, G43 mobo, RX580 GPU. It's been connected to the 32" LG TV for years, but I've finally just set up my BenQ XL2730 (? ~7 years old, 144Hz freesync) in there too even though my Black Friday X99 special has appeared dead for ~14 months. AMD drivers are a little old, Feb '20 iirc.

Is it easily configurable to have independent activities sent to LG and BenQ at the same time eg. better half watches Youtube vid on LG, while I browse the interweb or even play Rocket League (a fairly low power demand game compared to many) on the BenQ?
cant see why not.

Don't suppose you can give me a link to a tutorial on how to set this up?

as a possibility, and use something like a wifi handheld keyboard/mouse unit for the virtual os for the 2nd monitor.

Might be easier to get a chrome cast or android stick or android box tho for the person who wants to just watch utube or netflix etc on the other tv.

Tho you can easily just use dual monitors on the pc and as long as one of you controls it for both things one can play games or browse on one mon while the other watches utube on the other just if the utuber wants to watch somit else the other person will have to change it for her. All you do then is in windows use dual monitor settings to extend desktop u think. Then u just open a browser slide it to monitor 2 area then play utube on it, then mon 1 area is free to do what u like on it.

Thanks, will take a look when feeling more human!

Me too to be fair on my main rig, except RIS. Quite like that one :) the HDMI scaling issue is on a 1080p briefcase build i did to take with me when I'm working away. Used an old 21.5in tv I had lying around but with the HDMI connection it overscans with no option on the TV menu to stop it. Hence having to use the HDMI scaling option to me the screen fit. Locks it to 30 fps though. Right pain

Sounds like a problem my brother has with his old amd card with a tv, i finally found a workaround to make it fit mostly was to use a interlaced resolution than a progressive one i.e 1080i not 1080p and seemed to fit better. Pretty sure its through hdmi.

Yeah, most tvs have the option to disable overscan in the menus. This was a naff old set that I cannibalised the panel and control board from for the build. Nothing in the menus. To be fair, HDMI scaling at 4% makes it fit perfect, just caps the fps to 30. Rubbish for gaming lol. Might be able to create a custom res the right size I suppose. Not sure how to do that though

Yea

Just updated to 20.11.2 and wanting to keep a check on my new CPU and GPU temps etc in my new case and noticed the Metrics are foob'd.
Wish I had stayed on 20.11.1 now.

anyone else having issues getting a backscreen when updating from 20.9.2 to 20.11.2, tried multiple times after restoring an image. have to hard reboot which then throws an error re "DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error" amd vrr dll from memory. any ideas? running a vega56

20.11.2 seems stable enough for me with the new RX6800XT. Tbh not tried ray tracing yet (only game I think I own which supports it is Metro Exodus) so will just sit tight until the big December driver launch.

20.11.2 has got to be the worst release in the last couple of years, constant issues with it, black screen after install, lock ups, rolled back to the 20.9.2. i call bs on there 'tested it with many systems'.
edit: vega 56 to stop any confusion
edit 2: same install works fine on an older 390x build. - the issues appear to be juts with the vega build.

Eh conversely none of the 20.9.2 drivers worked properly on my system, all of the drivers in that series caused random hard reboots. 20.8.x, 20.10.x and 20.11.x were fine.

your on a 5700xt? guess its because of the newer arch and the differences between them. amended my original post to clear up any confusion :)

One thing I have noticed is that Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling does not appear to be enabled in the main graphics drivers. Loads of buzz back in June/July, but not heard anything since and I would have though the RX6800 series would have included it.
