The AMD Driver Thread

One thing I have noticed is that Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling does not appear to be enabled in the main graphics drivers. Loads of buzz back in June/July, but not heard anything since and I would have though the RX6800 series would have included it.
The buzz was largely from windows updating to support it. Think its still a BETA amongst everyone and hasn't been shown to help that much so far.

Might come in with the 2020 Adrenalin feature release maybe.

Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.3 Highlights

Support For

  • Immortals: Fenyx Rising™
  • Vulkan® Ray Tracing Extensions
Added Vulkan® Support
  • VK_KHR_fragment_shading_rate
    • This extension provides the ability to change the shading rate per fragment. This extension allows for multiple pixels to be shaded via a single fragment shader invocation as opposed to the normal rate of one invocation per pixel.
  • VK_KHR_acceleration_structure
    • This extension provides acceleration structures for representing geometry that is spatially sorted. Acceleration structures are the most common way for quickly identifying potential ray intersections by ray tracing techniques.
  • VK_KHR_ray_tracing_pipeline
    • This extension introduces ray tracing pipelines along with new shader domains and an indirection table to link shader groups with acceleration structures.
  • VK_KHR_ray_query
    • This extension introduces ray queries, which can be used by any shader type outside of the optional dedicated ray tracing pipeline to return traversal results to the calling shader.
  • VK_KHR_deferred_host_operations
    • This extension defines the infrastructure and usage patterns for deferrable commands, which allows dependent extensions to defer their own operations. The VK_KHR_deferred_host_operations extension itself does not specify any commands as deferrable.
  • VK_KHR_pipeline_library
    • This extension introduces pipeline libraries. A pipeline library is a new special pipeline type that defines a set of pipeline states. It cannot be bound, rather it can be linked into other pipelines.
  • VK_KHR_shader_terminate_invocation
    • This extension indicates support for the SPV_KHR_terminate_invocation SPIR-V extension. The SPIR-V extension introduces a new instruction OpTerminateInvocation that allows a shader invocation to immediately terminate, which provides the behavior required by the GLSL discard statement.

My card used to idle with the fans silent at under 20%. Now I get 1 min of very audible 1200rpm followed by 3 mins 0rpm. Rinse and repeat. A quick search suggests this was intended. :/

EDIT: Couldn't find Tuning, so used the search feature to take me to it. Made some changes but can't save them because the button has gone. WTF :/ :/

Set a custom fan curve with Afterburner. AMD's fan control is dog **** and always has been.

Does the onscreen display show the correct values now as it was broken in 20.11.2 ? (CTRL & ALT & O)

Seems to yeah. I've just put a post in the overclocking section though as I'm struggling with the clock speed. Never seems to go above ~1500Mhz. Both overlay and Metric page working fine, so I think it's a separate issue. But just did CTRL+SHIFT+O and the overlay appears and works OK (ran a benchmark). Hope this helps.

AMD drivers for Cyberpunk are under 'optional' not 'recommended' therefore AMD doesn't currently recommend AMD users play this game yet. Check and mate ;) In my experience the optional drivers were a daily BSOD.

I don’t think you understand how this works. The only difference is the recommended drivers have a WHQL stamp which is updated roughly every three months. They undergo no more testing than the optional drivers. Optional drivers can be updated several times in a month for new game releases.

They're both labelled WHQL on the website. But ok I see. In my experience the 'optional' driver was terrible until I went 'recommended', earlier in the year.

Fair enough, probably just unlucky then as usually recommended drivers were optional at some point.
