The AMD Driver Thread

I've used Win 10 Pro and now Win 11 Pro. Never had MS interfere with my drivers. And I don't recall fiddling to have to enforce that. Just installed Windows, then install drivers (Mobo, GPU, etc). Job done. It is a strange one for sure when people say it happens to them.
I believe there's a non specific option in Windows Update that permits it to look for later "official" drivers and update to those or at least list them, and if users don't read what's being update, that could update your driver unintentionally when they click on update. Power users normally refuse such control and likely won't run into the same issue.

Clouds be damned. The ground looks like a boiling mass of low quality textures changing before my eyes like the time I took too many mushrooms....but the clouds have been fixed!!

It's an app-side issue. Several people on the Reddit and Guru3D have sort of caught onto this, pointing out a proprietary radiance caching technology leading to the failures. That said, we have been working with them, though the ball is in their court.

Here's a link to a mod which apparently disables this component if you're interested.
Can you comment on the stuttering and texture pop in on Arc Raiders AMD Vik? I kinda suspect its the game/and or a windows update, but it would be great to get your take on it. It's such a mess right now it's unplayable, and that's a shame as i bought a new 9070xt to play it!!

I'm unfamilar - can you show me some footage? I've not seen anything or heard about this internally.

Are AMD aware of the FSR4 flickering in AFOP or an app-side?

Because enabling FSR4 through Optiscaler via Intel inputs=zero flickering.

Can ask my colleagues about this tomorrow for sure

Should get them to change it to waiting on CDPR for a fix :D
One thing I wanted to ask it's about free sync premium pro and HDR on my Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 it's never worked properly with my 7900gre if I leave Freesync on the picture is really dark so I have to disable Freesync if I want to use it I know from looking around online this isn't the only monitor that has this issue.

I did try and find a fix a while back updated the monitors firmware and found a few third party app for making custom resolutions that a few people said fixed it for them but I could never get it to work, and I found quite a few posts some people saying they had talked to AMD and they blamed Samsung and some from people who had talked to Samsung and they blamed AMD, TBH I always just assumed it was Samsung's fault lol
But I've just been checking out my old Vega 64 to make sure it still works and HDR and freesync works flawlessly on that GPU...

So just curious if you could ask anyone at AMD if they know why HDR and Freesync works fine on Vega 64 but is broken on my 7900gre

sorry for asking again and admittedly I haven't tried a different monitor yet

but has anyone had any issues with Virtual Super Resolution and the 9070XT with Windows 11 please ?

1080p monitor, but with my previous 3060ti I had better results with games 1440p downscaled than I had using TAA etc.

No matter what I do my 9070XT does not allow VSR to work, I can't set a desktop resolution higher than 1080p nor can I set higher than 1080p in games

I have VSR on and GPU scaling on (tested off too) - nothing works

I've just re-performed a complete DDU in safe mode - reinstalled AMD drivers and still doesn't work

my upstairs PC with a R290 and an ancient monitor it works just fine can set a desktop resolution to 2560x1440 no issues at all

3 differences:

Windows 11 machine vs 10
9070xt vs R290
Gaming PC connected via an AV amp - R290 connected directly

it has been suggested to try bypassing av amp but even if worked (I can't see how it would make a difference) - I would't be able to use and surely this is a configuration lots of people use

when I look at the "default display" in windows it lists all the modes my monitor can display and is correct so it is obviously reading the "TV" rather than the "AV Amp"

bit frustrating. I could try a complete Windows 11 re-install but that would be a right faff

I've tried from the 9070xt - HDMI to HDMI and Display Port to HDMI no differences

What monitor are you using and have you tried seeing if vsr in amd software works when directly connected instead of the AV. Is windows detecting when installing amd drivers that a high dpi display is attatched and says you can use vsr i.e the red notification sprocket thing at top right of amd drivers which would show that ur monitor is capable etc ok.

Maybe a dxdiag might help diagnose?

Does your monitor have any drivers needed, sometimes shows up in additional windows updates options, my aoc does tho it doesnt really affect vsr functionality but just wondered if it could maybe help somewhat. Doubt it but.

Is ur desktop res and refresh rate set correctly? Is ur av altering the signal to monitor in any way, any settings on that u can try?

And the ai search info that may help :p

Connection Setup Impacting VSR

When connecting your GPU to an AV receiver and then to a monitor, several factors can affect the availability of VSR:

  • HDMI Limitations: HDMI connections may not support the same resolutions and refresh rates as DisplayPort connections. If your AV receiver or HDMI cable does not support the required bandwidth, VSR may not function properly.
  • Receiver Compatibility: Not all AV receivers can handle the high resolutions needed for VSR. If the receiver cannot pass through the necessary signal, VSR will be disabled.
  • Monitor Settings: Ensure that your monitor is set to the correct input and that it supports the resolution you are trying to achieve. If the monitor does not recognize the signal correctly, VSR may not activate.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Cable Type: Ensure you are using high-quality HDMI cables that support the required specifications (e.g., HDMI 2.0 or higher).
  2. Direct Connection Test: Try connecting the GPU directly to the monitor to see if VSR works without the AV receiver in the chain.
  3. Receiver Settings: Verify that the AV receiver is set to allow video passthrough and supports the resolutions you want to use.
  4. Monitor Capabilities: Confirm that your monitor supports the resolution and refresh rate you are trying to achieve with VSR.
By addressing these factors, you can determine why VSR may not be functioning in your current setup.

I was messing around with VSR in the week with my 9070, managed to run DayZ at 8K on my 1080p monitor and was getting 45fps  tested 4K and was shocked to see 145fps, this was with the same Extreme/High settings I normally use but with AA disabled.

I use DP on the primary monitor and didnt think to check all the options on the HDMI connected monitor.

I can set all 3 to 1440p@144Hz using VSR and would keep it at that with Windows scaling at 125% but text seems to look a little blurry even on these 27 inch displays.

Hoping to upgrade to a native 1440p display this year, possibly an OLED too.

@Buckster Its strange how it wont let you do this, have you checked your cables are DisplayPort (1.2 or higher) or HDMI (1.4 or higher) or maybe switch the cables and monitor from your 290 rig to rule out any problem with those as it seems you're checking the right options in the software.

Is there a way to setup an ultrawide res on 4k monitor? 3840/1600? Or 3840/1800? I'm playing arc raiders and if I could get another 20% fps by going letterbox I'd like to give it a try...

After reading your post I thought I would check it on my setup.
In the past I've been able to enable VSR and then play Street Fighter 6 at 4k on my 1440p LG OLED monitor. 4k remained greyed out in game when I enabled VSR so it seems it's not working for me either with my 7900XT.
I didn't do any further testing like trying other games or even testing Windows 11 resolution but it definitely worked in the past with previous drivers and didn't last night with 26.1.1.

Edit: just tested since posting the above. If I set Windows resolution to 4k then 4k become selectable in Street Fighter 6. Don't remember having to do that in that past and not tried with other games yet so it could just be a SF6 quirk

YOu should now be able to select your custom letterbox in game/may/not have to select res in windows before launching, last time I done it was on my 79XTX, let us know if it works-good luck!:)
