ive noticed the fans started up and in the amd control panel under performance the mem clock was set to 1500 and core 1140 even though i had reset it in afterburner. Uninstalled AB and same thing was happening so changed to beta 9.4s and see how it goes.

If the GPU hit's 3D clock's and it dont have enough voltage the Driver will Stop responding.

You had AMD Overdrive and Msi AB running at the same time? You shouldn't do this tbh

I've got an r9 290x here too, having a nightmare with the 9.5 beta driver.

Constant display driver crashes/freezes/artifacting in every game, running @ stock speeds too. Fan running in uber mode, temp never passes 55-60c. Found that when the artifacting starts, my card's memory clocks drop from the 1250 default to 150 (as if gone into a low power/idle state), the in-game fps tanks, and a few seconds later the display driver crashes.

Happening in everything from wow to battlefield 4.

There it is from BF4, that's the crash error I get a few seconds into playing the game.

Note the Core frequency @ 1000 as it should be pre-crash and dropping to idle speeds after, but the memory frequency never goes above the idle point, even before the crash (check both the graph and just above it, the min/max recorded).

i only enable the 50% power limit in amd overdrive otherwise afterburner doesnt set the power limit correctly and only runs at stock clocks. i will link a post when i can find it with what i mean.

if i set in msi afterburner the power limit, it wouldnt apply it to the card unless i also set it in the amd overdrive tab, i was advised to do this, i have never had to in the past but it works with the whql driver but not the 9.5 betas.
