Slight update to my issues a few pages back. New Acer 24" LED screen arrived this morning. Connected my 7850 to it and those horrible 'scan lines' have completely vanished. Result. I'm happy. :)

Quick question if I may - I've connected it using an HDMI cable (Acer the skin flints only supply a D-SUB/VGA cable in the box, tightwads :p ). What should I be using to connect it, DVI or HDMI? Any advantage of one over the other?

HDMI can carry audio as well as a video signal.
DVI can support higher resolutions/refresh rates by using dual link DVI.

Other than that, they're identical bar different sized connectors/cables - could be important if you're trying to squeeze a DVI connector through a small gap and an HDMI one will fit. :)

If you're running 1920x1200 or lower at 60Hz, and not using the screen's speakers, there is absolutely no difference between DVI and HDMI. Glad you got your issues sorted mate.

Good stuff, I'll stick with the HDMI cable them. Ta. So glad those horrid scan lines are gone now, was worrying my bargain 'B' Grade 7850 was going to turn out to be a lemon and need RMA'ing but so far so good.

I've finally got 14.2 betas stable with Mantle on my 7990. Increased the voltage of the card to 1.130 and it seems stable. No crashes so far (fingers crossed). I could use the 13.2 with voltage of 1.110 stock is 1.200v so I'm still under volted! Just had a couple of hours on BF4 with Mantle.

Any news on the Thief mantle patch, AMD did say early march, they not the most trustworthy on keeping promises in the past with blaggers:(

Mantle is already out in driver 14.2, I think you blaming the wrong people. It's the Devs of Thief who delayed Mantle. Not up to amd to release Mantle and TrueAudio for Thief it's the game Devs.

AMD are not the ones releasing the patch. While AMD can be blamed for not pushing to ensure Mantle and Truedaudio were ready at release as promised. Most of the blame lies squarely with Square Enix.

Besides the game is in no need whatsoever of a performance boost even on mid range GPUs.

Trueaudio is a far more exciting proposition. This game really needs improved positional audio.

I'd really like to see AMD bring out a proper real-time demo for TrueAudio. When they bring out new cards, there's often a graphics demo, I'd like to see one for TrueAudio too.

Do AMD even care about directx anymore?

I am all for Mantle and giving a few people some performance boosts, not at the cost of directx performance though. I have serious performance issues with directx and texture flickering in almost every single game, ranging from mildly annoying to being a completely blinding tear that makes the games unplayable.

No point having these thief optimisations if directx itself has turned into a pile of trash.

AMD are officially annoying the hell out of me and I don't really get annoyed that easily...

I am aware they are beta drivers and things can go wrong, directx hasn't just gone wrong though, it's completely fallen off the level it was at 13.12. Multiple installs and it never changes, battlefield on Mantle, no texture flicker, battlefield on directx texture flickersville. Fifa 14, can range from a slight texture flicker, to the entire screen tearing up for moments (normally when the ball is out wide). Thief, shadows flickering and some textures seem like they stretch out of their boundaries somewhat.

I should really go back to 13.12, but what's the point in releasing these game optimisations in these beta drivers, if you are not going to put any effort into ensuring directx is the best it can be? If this is an attempt to make directx the best it can be, then I am worried for AMD, severe lack of quality in the last 2 beta drivers.

I am all for Mantle, but not at the expense of directx.

What card(s) and OS are you running mate? Just wondering as my DX games are working fine on the latest beta (I had some issues with desktop window corruption with the first beta, but the second fixed this) and wondering if there's anyone running a similar setup to yourself to see if the issue is a general one or specific to your setup. Also, have you reported the issues back to AMD so they can try to recreate/fix them?

I have Gigabyte 7990 and Windows 8.1.

I have installed it multiple times, Mantle appears to react differently with each install, but directx performance is constantly shoddy. Not just the texture tearing, the fps are lower on average for everything too.

Performance was low on the first mantle beta, but it didn't have these texture issues.

I think the drivers in general are inherently problematic from install. They either install properly, or they perform horrendously, especially for Mantle (which does have noticeable differences on each install). It could be that the drivers are never installing as they should for me.

It's not really nice though that the only way to take advantage of optimisations for new games is to opt in to these situations though. Terribly frustrating for me at the moment.

As I said though, I should use 13.12, at least until mantle is actually configured properly for my card, but I do actually use Mantle for Battlefield as it is now, I prefer it, it feels smoother (unless vram goes mental) and makes it a more enjoyable experience, however directx applications are getting increasingly unstable for me with each update to the beta drivers.

I've never had any problems installing/removing drivers. Beta 14.1 didn't work too great with Mantle but the beta 14.2's are great for me. DDU is a great tool from clearing up the registry and stuff, dunno why AMD don't write a proper uninstaller!
