I just tested Mantle on medium settings and i still get the cpu spike so i think i can rule out a memory leak, at least on the vram side. Mem usage was just over 1gb.

Yeah, the vRAM usage is insane compared to DX and when it goes above the card's RAM, it's starts to stutter. Shame, since other than that, the GPU seems to have the required grunt.

I tried BF4 with mantle after installing the 14.2 drivers and although I don't think there were optimizations for the 7 series cards, its definately better than 14.1. I can play a 3 hour stint with only a couple of slow downs but I will say for me, the image quality is not as good as DX, it plays good with mantle, mostly smoother also but the odd slow down occurs in intensive explosions etc, which is fine using DX11.
Matt kindly informed me that there will be optimizations for the Tahiti cards in the near future so that's welcome news.
For now I will stick with mantle and see if I can do some adjusting here and there

Skyrim with the latest beta drivers ( masses of artifact colours )

EDIT : Also a 10fps loss in some areas compared to official drivers that don't have this artifacting!

2 Questions:

a) Is Mantle BF4 now stable with crossfire 7950's?
b) Has 14.2 fixed the HDMI audio issue for people with HDMI receivers? (Too early for the AV crowd to have reported this but hoping someone on here may have a receiver).

A) Stable for some, not for all though. Tahiti and other 7xxx cards are still awaiting the same performance optimizations that 290 cards have on Mantle. That said if it works you should still see a nice free performance improvement.
B) No idea. Can i phone a friend?

No, I have an Onkyo AV receiver and audio is still screwed. Has been since after 13.11 beta 8 I'm afraid, grrr.

Woo hoo 14.2 works for me! No throttling or other issues, and Mantle! Only thing I've noticed in BF4 the lighting reflections seem too intense, not sure if anyone else is experiencing that. But otherwise the performance is great.

It sucks that it's a lottery, hope they can sort out the issues for others. I suppose my down side is my MSI 290 Gaming is not a great clocker. I'm using the Sapphire Tri-X bios on it again though and it's working better than stock bios. Got ~1420 in Heaven benchmark which is pretty good for a 290, wanted to upload the screen on the thread here but couldn't work out how to attach a photo! Had it as a dropbox link but still wouldn't work. Can anyone assist with that? Cheers lads

Skyrim works fine here. Is it possible a mod is causing this problem?

Hmm the only new one I put in was Dramatic Clouds, yet nobody else has said anything about this issue

I'm using sky/cloud mods myself with no problems. I hate when Skyrim mods may be causing problems as there are usually so many to test.

Try running stock without mods enabled to see if the problem goes away.

The following may be significant :)

Ok thanks, :) i'm still going to install Win 7 tomorrow and test it.

Its working for some but not others, it must be something related to something.

Ok. Test one;

Seems a little better in Win 7 but still the same thing, Re:

I have seen my vRam usage stutter hit 2.3GB on a 2GB card (Render.DrawScreenInfo 1)
What you say makes sense, i don't actually get a memory leak or any stuttering at all on Medium settings. its just perfect and thats it.

BUT. Anything over that, lets say High. there is a gain in vRam starting from 1.3GB to infinity. it climbs in stutter chunks, every minute or so there is a stutter with the vRam gaining 50MB, it keeps doing that until it hits 2020MB ish, after that its a constant stuttering mess with low FPS.

Its the Stutter gaining of vRam at setting over Medium that makes me think its something to do with the Game settings, something in the settings at high or above is switching something on that it does not like, causing the Memory leak.

I'm still experimenting, i'm determined to figure this out.

Humbug; is that with all high settings or maybe just textures? interesting I'll have to test cause I think I'm getting the same thing with my 7870 LE

Right, in Windows 7 Mantle is failing as in Win 8.1.

New tactic., with a fresh user.cfg i used there setting strings only

Code:
Render.DrawScreenInfo 1
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1
Render.DrawScreenInfo 1
Perfoverlay.DrawGraph 1
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
The last two strings turn off Triple Buffering and force frame caching to only 1 frame, the idea being to limit the amount of Data filing in vRam.
It had no effect.

So, Next...

With the Texture idea in my mind i the set GFX as seen in spoiler.

As a result i was able to complete 3 rounds of online action on different maps, this before ending on my own accord.

No stuttering at all throughout.

A victory?
Not quite.

In round one the vRam reached 1750MB and stayed there, literally, it never moved up or down.
Round two is where it got interesting, i did not see it clear the vRam, instead it added about 100MB onto it and ended up about 1850MB in that round, again it did not move at all throughout the round.
Round three, same again. it did not seem to clear the vRam, it added about 70MB. so in round three it was at about 1920MB and did not move.
Round four, i never bothered. i knew what was going to happen.

So there we are. we have moved along a bit, i think it is the texture setting which caused the Memory leak, whats apparently happening now is its not clearing the vRam on map changes.

I have not replicated this in win 8.1 yet but i suspect its the same.

More investigating is needed.

Lt where are you getting your info RE the next driver in a couple of weeks for 7 series cards? Not doubting you fella, it just december to march will have been a long wait!!

Anyone here who can check Ghosts with 14.2 drivers?I get bad stuttering with it overall the perfomance seems better in everything but madly stutters in Ghosts.
