**THE AMD DRIVERS THREAD**

I just don't get it. Every single driver since 14.4 has caused me problems with BF4. The last set caused red screens and the new Omega drivers cause me hard lock-ups. Rolled back to 14.4 and everything is fine again.

Yeah an issue with Microsoft Windows update is giving some people a hard time. Am going to make sure I don't install the update tonight when home. I not sure if it will be a problem to me has I already running the driver before the update.

Ok I have installed these Omega drivers the old fashioned way, over the top of my current drivers and it seems to have gone ok, no issues so far. I assume because I have a 4K panel there is no enable vsr button there, would that be correct and what else should be there.

Edit: Answered my own question, DOH! 'Virtual Super Resolution is not available for 4K Ultra HD displays'

Hi Mate i've installed the drivers OK, but don't have an option for VSR in panel properties window nor an option for Mantle in BF4 now.

I uninstalled with the AMD uninstall utility, restarted installed the new drivers restarted when i installed them.

I've got the 1 290 tri-x and a Benq 2420T monitor running at 120Hz.

I'm also running the Toastie X lightboost hack.

I've reinstalled the drivers 3 times the same way and everything i don't have the option for with vsr or mantle in bf4.

Is it right that running at 120Hz i only have options for 1920x1200 and 2048x1536 (4x3?).

Shankly seems to have it working at 3200x1800, though he hasn't mentioned whether he's had to turn the monitor down to running at 60Hz to make it happen.

Can you please offer me a hand?

So somehow i managed to down the windows 7 driver....

Installed the correct one and everything is grand. Tried alien isolation/looks great, crysis 3/beautiful, but it does become a bit of a slide show and the mouse mapping is somehow a bit missed up - you have to click on another area of the screen to select the bit you want (any solutions gratefully received) and like others have reported 2560x1440 at 100hz works. Just gonna check i can get mantle in bf4...

Yes Mantle back in BF4, but when i turn on VSR i get the same problem as crysis 3 with the mouse...any answers anyone??

Put windows zoom scaling back to 0%.

I just ticked the box next to enable vsr and hey presto sorted. It's actually great seeing how games lock at 2560x1440 though going back to 60hz - horrible. It does make me want another tri-x as well now - if they would just dip under £200

I have not had a single issue with an AMD driver for 2 or 3 years, nothing, just install and forget with each new driver.

While i do accept they are not perfect, some people do have on going issues that are the fault of the driver i think a lot of those who do blame the driver is in fact not the fault of the driver, at least not AMD's driver, or the hardware.

Image and display related faults can have a morsel of possible causes that are not the GPU or its driver.

It is often "Technical Ignorance" or "Fashionable" to blame the driver and / or the GPU its driving.

In my experience AMD's Drivers are amongst the most stable or "Rock Solid" works of software i have used in recent years.

I thought that was a hardware limitation? I was under the impression all HDMI ports on AMD cards were 1.4a (and lower for older cards) and only the new Nvidia cards have HDMI 2.0 ports. Isn't that like expecting software to make your USB2 port run at USB3 speeds, or have I grabbed the wrong end of the stick somewhere?

It is a hardware limitation, yes. It didn't stop nvidia from offering 4k60 with reduced chroma over 1.4a though. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

AMD have the necessary pixel clock to do HDMI 2.0 and there used to be talk that the 290 series would get it down the line, but I suspect the final HDMI 2.0 spec took that option off the table.

It has been a pretty painful year of very expensive but slightly incompatible hardware, and I'll take any scraps of hope and/or information I can get.

It wouldn't be the first time MS have released a patch that then interferes with display drivers.

I always make a point of knowing what the patch is before installing it, i don't trust them.

Yeah, I think drivers get a lot of blame when they're not actually at fault, or they are in conjunction with something else. This isn't just AMD drivers either, Nvidia probably have their fair share too. Since graphics drivers are probably some of the most common drivers to update they probably get noticed more. If everyone updated chipset drivers and SATA/USB drivers every time a new BETA was available they'd probably throw up more error too, or cause more errors that appeared to be something else (e.g. graphics drivers).

Also, there's that old thing about the people that complain are the loudest, so it seems like the issue is worse than it actually is. Coil-whine being another example. While I'm sure some cards can be prone to it, you only hear from the people with it really. You don't often get threads about "My new 970/290 DOESN'T have coil whine!"
That graph shows nicely how few actually are affected. Even at their worst AMD were only getting 275 issues per 1,000,000 units sold, so about 0.03%.

Good point. I'd forgotten about Nvidia's trick to get 4k-ish from 1.4a, thanks for the reminder.

Know what you mean about slightly incompatible hardware, if anything it's more annoying than obviously different stuff. I've not had the level of issue/expense you've got (my most recent was my Accelero back plate fouling my Silver Arrow by a few millimetres, meaning a downgrade in CPU cooler), but I can sympathise. Hope you get something sorted with it mate.

Thanks. I've seen rumour of a displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 active adapter some time q1 or q2 next year, or maybe AMD will offer a re-labelled 290 with HDMI 2.0 (or displayport 1.3) that I can swap into my crossfire setup. I'll get something sorted eventually, probably at great expense.
