**THE AMD DRIVERS THREAD**

Is it normal for 13.4 to be the latest package I can install on Vista-64?

If not, is there a "trick" to installing more current drivers since then? Vista is not listed as a supported OS for newer drivers.

I think were screwed.

Really chuffs me as I have no need or desire to change OS'. I was really surprised that AMD dropped Vista support as it is still a viable OS, ie DX11, SSD, etc., and is still supported by Microsoft, Intel, and almost everyone else.

I wasn't even thinking about changing OS', until everyone dropped support for Vista anyway, and was planning to wait for the next OS, as 7 is basically the same and I don't like 8, to even think about a change.

I really prefer AMD/ATI cards, but I may have to revisit Nvidia over this BS, when the current, 13.4, driver causes any issues. Change one video card or 3 OS', decision, decisions...

igp? do tell more.

I do want to flash it. tone down the volts and set the power limit a bit higher.

My GPU come in both Hynix and Elpida vertions, i have the Hynix, i don't want to use a different BIOS, to be safe i would rather edit my own and then Flash that.

Is there a good BIOS editor you can recommend? and please explain if there is an easy recover should it go wrong. thanks :)

Edit, Bloomfield i7, no igp :)

RBE won't work on 7000 series, you need-VBE7 - vBIOS Editor for Radeon HD 7000 series cards:

There is some info on VBE7 in my Ice-q thread(in my sig), have a look there too, I show some pics, very easy to use.

Since you don't have an igp, you can use any gpu to boot into dos to recover your original bios to your 7870 for recovery, but I doubt you'll need to if VBE7 mods your bios, follow matts guide for flashing the bios and you are good to go mate.:)

'FLEM' might enable you to hack newer drivers to work on Vista, worth a look.

Report back bud as it could be helpful to others.:)

Thank you very much Tommy, i will have a look at that tomorrow :)

Thats strange.. maybe try reinstalling before u roll back? I usually uninstall via control panel and check 'All AMD software' and then delete all the AMD/ATI folders then run Ccleaner. Reboot and run Ccleaner once more before installing new. Maybe try this if u havnt already? :)

CCleaner does nothing in terms of drivers cleaning.

Just use Steam's approved Driver Fusion uninstall method or the new Display Driver Uninstaller.

I have never seen that before, nice idea, but only works for legacy cards, I think 4000 series and back on newer OS'.

I am using a 7870, on the PC that matters, and it's not supported, so a no go for me.

Looks like a driver reinstall again! Loving the latest amd drivers for my 7950's.

Just as a note for anyone this could affect, the amd cleanup util screws up windows 8.1 user account control effectively locking you out of control over your pc, I discovered this yesterday and spent ages trying to figure out what the problem was, in the end I found editing this registry entry the only solution. I just used the cleanup util without checking it was ok for windows 8. I'm sure most of you don't use it or know about this but though it worth mentioning.

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mi*crosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion*\Policies\System set the value "EnableLUA" to 0 , and restart your system.
