The AMD R9 290 (non x) Thread

Got a response from EK, they say they can't comment on if the 290X block fits the 290 pro...

Strange considering it seems to indicate in the product blurb that it does, plus why can't they comment, they released their block before the 290X was even out...

Last couple of times the prices have been the same. Same price in the UK as DK when I bought my 780's ;) There may be £5-10 difference.

Well, 370 isn't too bad. If the 780s drop any further before launch AMD might have to do a last-minute adjustment.

Interesting to hear about the DK prices, is there much difference between online/retail?

I REALLY hope this article is wrong.

AMD Radeon R9 290 pushed back by a week

According to the information from 3DCenter, AMD has postponed Radeon R9 290 launch date by a week.

The reason for that is supposedly a new, better driver which will increase R9 290 performance significantly (probably increasing power consumption at the same time).

NVIDIA’s offensive with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, and now with GTX 780 GHz Edition is nothing that AMD expected. The funny thing is that they still deny it, they even say that they knew about new NVIDIA cards for a long time. Turns out they weren’t prepared for any move from NVIDIA, and now reviewers will have to retest their 290s, only because AMD changed something in the driver.

3DCenter also reports that NVIDIA is still thinking about the new TITAN, only this would be with fully GK110 enabled. The original TITAN will soon be replaced with GeForce GTX 780 Ti, at lower price, meaning there’s absolutely no reason to keep the current pricing for TITAN.

AMD Radeon R9 290 will be released on November 5th.

AMD guys should hope that is true tbh. The 290 score posted in the 290X thread is already scoring over 10k in firestrike before this supposed new performance driver.

I'm getting tired of waiting to pull the trigger. Last week it was the 7990 for £399, this week it was supposed to be 2 x 290s, and next week the 780Ti apparently gets released.

Too. Much. Choice.

Over 10K "Graphics" that is, just want to add that in there.

Here's the score Matt mentioned.

Aye it must be annoying for people waiting to buy. Still good things come to those who wait. Will be interesting to see if this new 'performance' driver will mean a 290X ends up topping a 780TI. That would raise a smile.

I'd suggest this performance driver talk is rubbish, but it wouldn't be the first time this has happened. 12.11 Never Settle anyone?

Lol, of course in graphics. I'm not talking about the cpu score. Derp. :p

I'm skeptical at how good the driver can be.

The R290 isn't worlds away from the R290X in performance.
If they use the launch driver results for the R290X results, it raises the possibility of the R290 results being better in results unless they redo the R290X reviews.

Todays GHZ edition 7950 will be besting launch day 7970 results.
