*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

One of the main problems I have is that Frank Azor has said that the cards will be faster that the benchmarks online, I don't believe that but we will see. They really should have releases before Nvidia.
No they shouldn't. They should release a week later. That way reviewers are free of the NVIDIA NDA and any other NVIDIA agreements. Therefor NVIDIA cannot enforce some silly testing regiment. The tests will be more apples to apples and any negatives from the NVIDIA reviews would have taken root in people's minds over the week giving the possibility for AMD's products to look better.

EDIT: What I do think AMD should do is to announce the launch date on the day of the 5000 series review date.

Also those tariffs from Trump, UK isnt in the EU so we might not get it as bad as most of Europe.
Trumps tariffs are on goods imported into the USA to encourage the purchasing of home grown/produced products

it has nothing to do with the uk as AMD ect all source and produce the goods outside the united states

what it will do is drive up American domestic prices and maybe create more availability elsewhere

While I mainly agree it depends on how the Nvidia cards review. If the reviews are poor and AMD come in soon after with good reviews and pricing it could be a win. If AMD jump now and Nvidia change there strategy on pricing it could hurt AMD. Either way Nvidia hold a lot more cards than AMD.

At least if Nvidia come in first you can see the whole picture. AMD have managed to fumble plenty even when Nvidia has went first so would be nice if they get it right this time. It's clear they are thinking a lot behind the scenes but AMD thinking to much is dangerous.

Unless reviews show otherwise,I wouldn't trust anything AMD is saying now. Remember the Ryzen 9000 series launch and AMD PR claims? The RX7900XT being jebaited by the RTX4070TI 12GB(which was really a rebadged 60/60TI series card). The RX7800XT taking months to appear after the RTX4070 launch,to the extent the street price of the latter was not much higher. Or the overpriced £430 RX7700XT?

People just give AMD chances every generation, and try to explain away how AMD handles it's launches and product segmentation. Then keep forgetting all the crap moves they have pulled in recent years.

AMD said they were not the budget brand and they meant that. So for them to suddenly imply they want to target the average gamer, sounds like they think the average gamer spends £500+ on dGPUs.Even JHH thought many people had $10000 gaming PCs.

All this nonsense of them suddenly pulling the launch by 2 months because of a £540+ RTX5070 sounds like AMD marketing department PR spin. Yes,that is totally normal for a dGPU launch.

It's obvious AMD had no intention of selling the RX9070 series under £500,which the re-name itself implies. So AMD wanted to sell RX7900XT performance for almost RX7900XT EOL pricing.

Precisely.

All this wittering about AMD needing to offer price/perf based on their previous gen that (as many will point out gleefully) nobody bought. AMD are aiming to increase marketshare, thus need to tempt people over from Nvidia, not offer a good upgrade path from those with a 7800xt. The logical way to do that is to see everything the competition offers. I expect the "March" tweet is nothing more than a response to Nvidia's "February" release date.

Realistically very few people are going to be mashing F5 on launch day. I've been building PCs for over ten years and this is the first launch I've closely followed. For my last upgrade, I saw reviews pop up for the 3080, thought to myself "wow that sounds good, I'll upgrade my 1080ti". Imagine my dismay at not being able to buy one for over a year.

If Radeon release the card at a stonking price/perf uplift against Nvidia, with FSR4 being mustard, then it'll be a winner. Not one single person will give a toss about what people like MLID said two months prior about them thinking about releasing about this price or that, or cards sitting in warehouses for months.

But then you will always have people who seem to revel in percieved missteps by whatever corporation. It's all a big sideshow. The furious circlejerk is a bit cringe.

Also this Team Red vs Team Green vs Team Blue stuff needs to die. They're not football teams, they don't even know you exist.

The issue is AMD makes all these claims about how they looked at the 7800XT/7900GRE and were going after the average gamer(that is implied in the interviews).

But suddenly get a shock, when Nvidia reduces the RTX5060TI,sorry,RTX5070 by £50. Nvidia is barely trying to do anything - even their slides tells us we will be lucky to get 20% improvement in rasterised over an RTX4070!

They have literally pulled their CES presentation, pulled the launch(reviewers received the cards) and stock is at retailers. That doesn't sound very inspiring.
Maybe, just maybe wait and go off of facts, not as if Nv's met expectations
either with steadfastly not increasing Vram/raster etc, etc etc.

Waits almost over, won't be long now and everything will be on the table-thats what I'm doing before making any decisions.

They will know my name! as I bring down the shops of my choosing with F5 on launch day(cause scripts are for .......s) with the fury of a nerd in need of some proper hardware.

Totally all rumours when:
1.)AMD pulled the CES announcement at the last minute - fact
2.)Didn't tell the tech press they were doing this, who released official slides - fact
3.)Tech press confounded on what was happening, because AMD said nothing - fact
4.)AIB partners confounded as they were showing off cards at CES to the tech press - fact
5.)Cards with huge coolers,PCBs,etc that look expensive - fact
6.)AMD saying everything was going according to plan and they were targeting the mainstream - fact
7.)AMD seemingly not wanting to talk about RDNA4 in any detail - fact
8.)Retailers receiving stock with pictures of the boxes - fact
9.)Some retailers showing orders/pre-orders for this week - fact
10.)Reviewers confirming they have the cards NOW - fact

10.)AMD now saying the launch is sometime in March despite retailers having stock - fact

Totally normal dGPU launch there with reviewers and stores now having to sit on cards for upto two months.

So again, why is AMD so scared of the £540+ RTX5070 then? You even say it isn't great. Nvidia even released figures!

They would only be scared of it,if they intend to charge over £500 for the RX9070 onwards.

If the RX9070 was under £500,then the RTX5070 wouldn't even be competing for the same market.

I have defended AMD for a lot of things on here for the last 15 years, but it's tiresome when they repeatedly expect people on social media to rationalise all the rubbish they do.

They did the same with the Ryzen 9000 series. They were not truthful about the performance and then launched them at a high price.

No wonder they are at 10% sales share in dGPUs and OEMs don't want to use them. Useless marketing and have no ability to build any hype. Always excuse after excuse for them.

They are billion dollar company that still has worse marketing than a market seller. Nvidia is just not even trying anymore.

Even Intel did a better job with their weak dGPUs,which had flaws.

If their antics are annoying enthusiasts and give them 1000 chances to fix their mess-ups,then most gamers will care even less about them.

There is no need to "defend" anything about this launch. Sounds to me like AMD has been caught with its pants down. No surprise if that is actually true. But I don't think there is anything wrong with looking at explanations for said "dropped pants" moment. TBH I would rather as a consumer have my new GPU by the end of the month than at some random point in March but I also understand that if you(AMD) makes a miscalculation it takes some effort and time to fix that. I think AMDs problem is much more complicated than most think, a fault of AMDs own making.

Everyone on forums and social media keeps saying their stance of trying to price relative to Nvidia doesn't work. The RX7900XT is a prime example of this and they got caught out by the RTX4070TI 12GB.

The RTX5070 is £540+ so hardly great value and Nvidia has hinted at the performance increase:

The only way AMD got caught is if they thought the RTX5070 would be £600,and the RX9070 non-XT started at £550.

It explains why all the cards we seen so far look tarted up and not like cards which would start at under £500. But as @ICDP said these are meant to be the replacement cards for the RX7800XT and RX7900GRE series.

The £480 RX7800XT was almost 50% faster than an RX6700XT. Even RX7900XT performance is only 30% more than an RX7800XT. The RX7900XTX is 50% faster than an RX7800XT.

So,even if the RX9070XT is an RX7900XTX,it would have to be under £500 to match the value the RX7800XT brought to the table.

Even if AMD competed against its own cards:
1.)RX9070 would be £480 and give 30% more performance than an RX7800XT
2.)RX9070XT would be £550 and give 35% more performance than an RX7900GRE

I don't buy their excuses TBH. I think they are trying to find ways to support lower pricing just like with Vega 56.

Poorly worded on my part, should have used pricing/performance instead of facts.

I don't disagree with most of what you're saying, it's AMD doing AMD things with probably their least prioritised products.

It's not as if retailers won't have 50 series sitting on shelves doing nothing either.

However, as I have to keep repeating myself and explaining to deaf ears that I just don't have a need for Tenna's while waiting for confirmed price/performance facts before making an informed purchase or not.

as AMD seems to be waiting to see what NVida does, they can simply adjust FSR4 to create as many fake frames to increase FPS performance.

Oh wow, massive delay. So the answer is 'yes' then. All the 9070 cards have been built to a higher price.
as long as they are a similar price to the 5070Ti then they will be OK - I think that AMD will position their 9070's at slightly lower price and thus still having a better value.

I've also looked at this without nvidia in the mix and my conclussion is that either the 9070 or the XT has to be launched at around 7800XT money cause otherwise AMD would be offering last gen performance for last gen price which makes no sense. So I get where you are coming from. I think :). AMD stalling could be a multitude of things not related to price at all. That is why I think exploring theories, however silly, is valid if not just something to kill the boredom while we wait.

EDIT: quick ninja edit.

Trumps tariffs are on goods imported into the USA to encourage the purchasing of home grown/produced products

it has nothing to do with the uk as AMD ect all source and produce the goods outside the united states

what it will do is drive up American domestic prices and maybe create more availability elsewhere

Tariffs don’t work like that. If the US are putting tariffs on UK goods (it’s a universal tariff, not just the EU) to promote the sale of domestic goods, then the UK retaliates with tariffs on US goods.

So you end up with a tariff war and escalation of import costs on US goods.

Maybe don't have fsr4 ready to show off fake frames in presentation, remember how long fsr3 was delayed after rdna 3 released

Yeah, all this talk of AMD not knowing how to price these is the only true IF they intended to increase the prices of the 7700 XT, 7800 XT tiers to 7900 GRE and 7900 XT tiers.

If Nvidia lowering (on paper) prices by a whopping $50 is enough to have AMD befuddled, then they were never aiming for the mainstream as promised.
