You don't know that, maybe someone is playing a spooky game by candle light on their 4k 240hz monitor and there is a slight flicker in the corner of the screen caused by dsc artifacting and they get such a shock they knock over the candle onto a convenient pile of oil soaked rags! :P

Or the whole game constantly gets black screens intermittently… increasing jump scares x10 :eek:
 
The difference between a 9070xt and 9070 is about 20% performance and £50 so not sure why anyone would pay more than £50 above MSRP for a 9070XT that may OC an extra 5-10% over the standard model.
People paid +£1500 from a 4090 to a 5090 for 30%.

Extra 50-100 is nothing for better performance, build quality, looks, thermals and acoustics IMO. :)

The price difference was explained (if you want to believe it) that the 9070 and 9070 XT are the exact same dies and that yields are excellent. So in essence it costs as much to make a 9070 die as it takes to make a 9070XT die. In fact it may cost slightly more as you now have to deliberately hobble parts of the fully functional 9070 XT die and that is additional work.

Or to put it another way, AMD would be deliberately having to hobble and sell actual XT dies as Non XT dies to meet demand for the “cheaper” chips.

The way I look at it is for $50 more than a 12GB 5070, you get a 16GB 9070XT with a lot more performance.

If that's the minimum what would people recommend these days if i want to future proof?
depends whether you're getting a seasonic platinum, or some special 750W explodely mc'pop whizz power-supply from no-name vendor.

i have a 650W seasonic platinum and I have 100% confidence that it will perform beautifully year after year with a standard TDP 9070 XT card.

Did you mean no point spending on an expensive OC version of the 9070 as it can overclock easily?

Right to gauge the opinions here. If (Big If) I upgrade from 7800XT will getting 9070XT mean it’s a 5 year card at Max settings at 1440p?

EDIT: I already the feel the 7800XT would last till next console gen without many compromises at 1440p as everything I play (AAA titles, COD) is on max and get respectable fps. So basically am I FOMOing into the 9070 series unnecessarily? (It would cost me a £117 loss on what I paid for my current card).

I would say yes… but that would take a lot of self discipline. See you the same time next year for the AMD X070 XT ;)

Out of curiosity, what FPS you getting roughly on the large BR map in Warzone at 1440p.
I wouldn't mind comparing against my 3080 to what a 7800XT is.

On another note, I wonder which 9070XT was reported to only hit 55degC in furmark testing.
 
more power tool stopped support for RDNA3 as AMD locked the bios down.

No way to increase power limit on the 9070 non xt.
What about decrease the power limit? Overclock the memory? Underclock the cores? Maybe even an undervolt if we're getting fancy? These are things that I would like to do with a 9070/XT, and can do on radeon 7 and RDNA2. Have no experience with RDNA3 to know if they messed anything up since.

No change on RDNA3. You just undervolt and the card will auto boost higher due to lower heat and power consumption.

Tbh I haven’t tested it on warzone but I get 133fps on Black OPs 6 Benchmark at Max settings without FSR.

In MW3 get 145fps at Max on the benchmark without upscaling.

On Indy Jones on max settings without path tracing, I get anywhere from 70-110 fps on levels I’ve played so far- Vatican and Gizeh.

On Avatar at Ultra (not unobtainium) on FSR quality I get 70-80 fps.

Doesn’t sound like I need an upgrade does it?

Apparently the 9070 will be in low supply relative to the XT for this reason. So it doesn't make much sense as a product with the price, but it doesn't matter because you won't be able to buy it anyway :)

Blimey 5 years is an along time. Let’s say 9070xt is similar raster to a 4080 according to tech powerup that’s 49% improvement. For £117 quid. Hmmm

Yes same as RDNA 2 you can UV AND OC and it will boost higher. No need for MPT.

Like others have said, it's a long time to try and hedge your bets on. Somewhere in those 5 years the next gen of consoles will be out and game devs would start targetting those and the 9070XT might just about meet the minimum PC requirements if that happens. I'd personally plan for 2 maybe 3 and upgrade to whatever AMD have out by then.
