*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

It's hot, but is that overheating? What's the spec on the chips? TJMax will be probably be 100-105c.

Read the post again. The memory is hitting 88 degrees but the core temp is still only 48 degrees. That's the "overheating" concern. It could signal a problem with the cooling, the card design or some other issue.

Or maybe it's nothing and the memory just runs hot in these cards.

Only a couple of days to wait until the reviews. But usually issues like these only show up when the consumer gets their hands on the cards.

Or the good old anti aliasing days!
To be fair though, I also think a lot of it has to do with how games are developed these days. There seems to be a lot of "choose engine with marketplace" and "buy solutions made by others" and then slap it all together. To be frank, it feels like the industry is filled with incompetence, be it in development or in leadership. And I think this because sometimes we see gems gets released that shows how high the standard should be. Can't remember the title of the game but there were this little simple game that was raytraced and could run on a GTX 1060. WOOT?!? :P Just mentioning raytracing to a 1060 would normally make it burst into flames.

So the main games I’m playing are HellDivers 2 and Battlefield 2042 , and no doubt the next BF as well by early next year.
Both at 4K on a 3080.
HD2 gets 60FPS and BF gets 90-100FPS with DLSS on (balanced mode). Without DLSS it’s about 60.

Neither game supports FSR. Not sure they ever will. BF will support DLSS. I doubt HD2 will support either in future as it’s an old game engine.

I’d like to get at least 100FPS in both games & offer some headroom for the next BF game.

Would you therefore prioritise say a 5070Ti over a 9070XT on the basis of DLSS support ? Or go with 9070XT and hope that native performance at 4K will hold up in games like BF 2042 and the next version (which is being built on the same game engine).

How to price the value of DLSS?

If you push your connector in properly it "Should"... be safe. Made me lol.

That cable shield blocks a lot of the airflow though why does it need to be so restrictive?

I'd need to look at a 2.9 slot card anyway so I can keep on using both PCI-E expansion ports.

Just checked mine, with a CM module removed I could fit a GPU that 51cm long :D

435mm for mine and I thought I had a big case by modern standards (Phantek P600S).

I'm tempted to sell my 7800XT and buy a 9070XT. Not for any good reason, but new toy, new toy! :)

I'd probably be better off selling my board, CPU and RAM (5700X, 32GB DDR4-3600) and buying a 9800X3D (if that's possible now) with board and RAM for it. But that would be fuss and bother. Swapping a graphics card is a 5 minute job.

Then I consider the games I actually play (mostly older games and/or indie games) and realise it doesn't matter as my current hardware is more than enough for them.

But new toy!

Guess it depends on actual price and actual performance. And hey, selling my 7800XT now will get me more money than selling it later, so I'm saving money, right? :)

Frame generation for a competitive shooter like BF2042 is not good as it introduces lag by its design.

My case

As someone who's just bought a 5070TI for a grand... I would happily swap to a 9070XT at £800 but I'm going to wait for the real benchmarks to come in
likewise if the performance is what they say it is and FSR4 is a good as they say and it's <£800 for a NICE 9070XT (not the bare bones model I'm gonna cancel my order)

not a shock TBH. stock fan curve on my nitro + GRE isn't great for mem temps.
I would freakout with mem temps like that, my mem temps never get much past 70c, even overclocked like it is here.

7800 XT Sapphire Pulse.

I've been looking around various suppliers to try to gauge what the situation is likely to be on release day. They say 'great supply', but let's face it, this is the UK and that probably means 12 cards and half a cheese sandwich - I'm somewhat expecting these to have sold out by the time the browser has managed to refresh. My aging 6600XT will likely have to continue on for a while yet. I was considering whether there's any mileage in going for a tactical buy on a base 9070 as I think they will be available until the feeding frenzy on the XTs has played out. I think the 9070 could probably have a lot more headroom for overclocking to get it closer to the XT. Ultimately, I guess we'll have to see how it plays out on Thursday.

HD2 is massively CPU bound so I wouldn't worry about GPU performance in that game.

Essentially I want a 9070XT with 3X 8 pins for future overclocking potential and that isn’t entirely overheating while doing so…. Would be great to find out which ones to avoid. I guess I’ll be waiting till Wednesday reviews.

I'm quite tempted by one of these, will look forward to reviews on Wednesday.

They are all pretty massive. The only options that will fit my case (fractal terra) without changing CPU cooler (which i dont want to do) are the Asus Prime OC and the Powercolor Reaper.

The reaper is more likely to be close to MSRP, but whats the consensus on Powercolor cards? Neither have warranty info on the OCUK product page.
The Asus Prime, unlikely to be MSRP considering its "OC" and "Asus" no idea what the 3010 vs 2970 in boost clock with work out to in real world performance difference.
