*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

If the 8800xt is as fast as the rtx4080 in raster and RT and uses 15% less power then that's not bad imo - it just needs a sharp price

The 4080 is $999, so I think the 8800xt should be under $700

For the people thinking it will be $300, what are you smoking? Why would AMD charge $300 when Nvidia is charging $999 right now

But current 4080 performance should be next gens 5070 performance if you look at past trends , 5070 shouldn't be $999 , more mid tier pricing

We don't know that yet, you can't make these assumptions about Nvidia, the 5070 might be slower than a 4080

Regardless It will be close enough, I haven't looked but have we ever had new gen 70 tier that never matched or been way behind previous 80 tier ?

I obviously meant 45% over current levels.
Its an 800 series card. 45% over a 7900xtx would make it RTX4080 Super level and twice the speed of an RX7800XT in RT:

I am doubtful if it will be such a huge leap

Should I keep my 7800xt or upgrade to a 8800xt sorry the FOMO is setting in lol! XTX performance with 45% better RT for £600 likely

I think people need to remind themselves (as it is easy to get caught up in hype and speculation) about what we know. It will be a mid-range GPU. So yes, those on top end 7900XT or XTX cards are probably not going to be buyin this GPU, especially for general Raster performance. That should go without saying. Personally, I'm with a 6900XT so I'd be waiting to see benchmarks before deciding if it fits what I need. What else do we know, yes AMD have said they are focusing on RT performance. So as long as they deliver on that (any improvement is welcome), then they have fulfilled their promise. Next would be the price, it has to be priced as a mid-range GPU. Get that right and we should be golden.

But I thought RT was the pinnacle and people will be climbing over themselves for 4080 levels?

Also supposedly just an architectural tweak over RDNA3 rather than a full do-over, I suggest you all temper your expectations of this chip and ignore the wild rumours. GRE-level or a touch better maybe?

People's expectations are truly detached from reality. Not sure how anyone could look at the abomination that is RDNA 3, hear AMD say they're going to play it "safer", but then expect a 4080 @220w for £500. Then again I suppose the holidays are coming up so might as well ask Santa for the moon. :p

This is true shatters the latest rumours

The latest rumours claimed 25% less TDP than 7900xtx, which would be 270w, but Seasonic says it's 220w. So if the leaker couldn't even get the TDP right then what else did they get wrong?

I call horse**** on the raster perf til we see the reviews drop. 45% faster RT than crap RT is still that, crap.

They better at least nail the upscale this time, getting embarrassing.

The RT performance of the 7900 XT is decent enough to run heavy RT with upscaling at 1440p. It most certainly is not “crap” even at that current level.

A 7900 XTX is even better and if true, then a 45% uplift in that level of RT is going to be a very viable 4K mid range GPU similar to an RTX 4080 RT performance. The only potential issue will be where AMD price it.

All the people on 7900 XT or “mid range” RTX 4000 will not be remotely excited or hyped for the 8800 XT, but they not who AMD are aiming at. If you look at this from a perspective of those who held on to RDNA 2 and 3000 series Nvidia cards, they will finally have a decent upgrade path if the price is right. That’s who are more excited at this level of GPU for the right price.

Not hyped or exciting, just a potentially good GPU if the price is right.
