*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

Why are people surprised? It is obvious from the leaked specs.

7800 XT has 3840 CUs and this has 4096 CUs. It's gonna be slightly faster than the 7800 XT because of the shader increase and a very small IPC increase.

At least AMD are being smart and not callng it the 8800 XT.

With the 5700 XT they knew when they couldn't compete. With the 6800 XT and 6900 XT, they could.

They then fell into the trap of over naming the 7800 XT and 7900 XT(X).

The leaked prices at the lower end of the ranges, seem about right.

This is not necessarily a given, 7800 XT 3840 Shaders vs 6900 XT 5120, +33%.

If this new 9070xt or whatever it's called can't beat a 7900xt... the only way to save it and make it a decent GPU is to ensure it has 16GB VRAM and price it no higher than £400. Less than £350 ideally even. It's no longer modern midtier (~£500)

I doubt even Nvidia would offer 4080 performance at £500 at this point, but it's looking like Nvidia will be the only option mid-range and above. 7900GRE is today's mid-range, so therefore tomorrow's budget/mainstream. So a supposed 7900GRE level 9070 would actually be a budget card next gen.

Only time will tell at this point, but it looks like Nvidia will probably have nothing to worry about, no threats to them being able to nickle & dime with the 5000 series. Sad for folks wanting/needing to buy a GPU though...

If this thing is only 10% faster than the 7800xt, they are so cooked. £299 or it's a bust.

Keep in mind Timespy is a pure rasterisation test, it has no Ray Tracing

I know a lot of people don't t care about RT, but I'd like to see the RT benchmarks

Right no idea if it was official but it's been shouted about for a while they are targeting the mid tier and I don't consider that slight uplift from 7800xt mid tier for next generation

The uplift for these is meant to be geared more towards ray tracing than anything else. Just have to wait and see in a few weeks what's what

I wonder if the leaked benchmark is on dev drivers to check stability, not final release drivers. The fact it is hitting slightly higher than 7900 GRE speeds with non release drivers and most likely not final clocks, is frankly right where it’s expected to perform at this point.

I would estimate about another 15% - 20% on that number for the final release version for it to match or slightly beat a 7900 XT in raster. This would put it slightly faster than a 7900 XT in raster and quite a bit faster in RT. So a bit faster than a 4070Ti was my prediction.

If on the other hand this is an accurate performance leak, then AMD need to be pricing this GPU at about £450.

And do you know why the 6900 XT isn't 33% faster? The answer is obvious and is a given.

Have you seen the specs of the 9070 XT before making that comment? It's performance is just as predictable as the perfomance of the 7800 XT and 6900 XT (and for that matter the 6800 XT which has very similar performance to the 7800 XT).

That would be good enough for me and get me going team red again

Yeah, all I see re this GPU is hope, not hype. I have been predicting about 7900 XT or 4070Ti raster and 4070Ti in RT. I tend to knock 10% - 15% off rumoured performance from AMD. Some driver and clock tweaks and the rumoured RX 9070 will match a 4070Ti which is still a £750 -£800 GPU. Just need AMD not to go full retard on the pricing.

You still need a certain amount of raster to make ray tracing pleasant experience

Even a 7800 XT is more than match for 1440p raster. Get the RT performance to match and it will be a great GPU at the right price. A 4070Ti is a great 1440p GPU, but it costs ~£750 - £800. So hardly cheap or what people consider mid range pricing.

Like I said, hope not hype. AMD simply can’t price this too high because it’s not going to be a big enough uplift over a 7800 XT. It was always rumoured to be about 7900 XTX in raster. So the pricing was never sensible over £500. Though let’s watch this space because AMD will find a way to **** it up.

If they failed every time they wouldn't have had 40+ % of the market at one point. For a lot of the time their market share was tanking they were on the verge of bankruptcy, then they made a misstep with rdna. Now they're going back to a unified setup things can change.
They decided to become the premium brand and charge premium pricing without having the premium hardware to back it up, the last 4 years has been a disaster despite actually having some decent products on the market because of how they were priced and marketed.

Now if the rumours are true and they launch a card that performs similarly to a 7900XT in raster but with better RT yet less VRAM for $650 then I think they are done.

Game over, man...

7900 GRE scores in Time Spy. Ghastly. If olit's priced a p over £500, they're cooked. Heck' it's not very rosy even at £500.

How exactly was the 6000 series for example not premium hardware? It competed with and beat nvidia in raster, the only thing it was lacking in was rt abilities, which was to be expected as the design for those cards was done several years previous to the launch when RT was still not something that was a consideration.

Hah. So much chatter in this very thread about it possibly being 4080 performance. It might not even end up being 7900xt performance. Lol.

Yeah, wonder how long before everything turns into "amd said it would be X performance" when they've said nothing of the sort. Happens all the time in these threads where somehow rumours magically turn into an official amd statement.

AMD won't care. They will wait for the 5070 and price it a little cheaper. So you might get 7900 GRE performance for £499

I never said AMD said it. I replied to what Grim said.

It will be what it will be in the end. Won't be anything I am interested in. I will either be happy if they get it right and gain much needed market share or lmao with a bucket of popcorn in this thread. Win win :D

I didn't say you said anything, I'm saying that later in this thread people will trot out the "amd said it would be x performance" line when they've said zero about the cards. Happens all the time.
