I imagine once AMD become competitive in the high end market once again then nVidia will decide to magically support Freesync...
Most definitely. However this will not be for another few years at least, so no adaptive sync support by them until then.

I wanted to get the Hype Train back on track after its disasterous ending

AMD Working On 14nm+ Vega 2.0 To Compete With NVIDIA’s Volta In 2018

http://wccftech.com/amd-working-14nm-vega-2-0-compete-nvidias-volta-2018/

Shall i make a new thread named VEGA 2.0 HYPE TRAIN?:D:D:D

It will most probably be as fast as 1080TI but need 700w of power lol
Not interested in any more Vega personally. Even such a GPU would only compete with cruddy old Pascal. We need Navi, which hopefully will be new tech that actually translates into performance for AMD.

I honestly would have bought a 480/580 as a stop gap card if they hadn't gone orbital with the price :( Even second hand prices have gone stupid thanks to the mining. I basically can't really even build a reasonable budget system thanks to the prices. I whinge a lot lol.

I am very surprised they are not undercutting the 1070 price with the Vega 56.
I think due to the financial situation they cannot afford to. They know if they come in at a lower price and make less profit, Nvidia will just match or lower their price even more. See the thing is, if they did come in at $299 and 1070 dropped to even $249, I would still go for Vega 56 for two reasons. One, they would have come in and improved price for performance and forced nvidia to lower their price therefore deserving the money and two because I have freesync.

Even though I will likely not be buying Vega as I am disappointed with both its price and performance, I still want RTG/AMD to do well so they can come back again with Navi and hopefully bring competition back to the high end.

So Vega 56 is marginally quicker than a GTX 980 Ti in some handpicked benches.

I think we need to wait for proper reviews and not jump on the hype train.:)
I have been on to many AMD hype trains which have crashed and burned. Don't worry, won't be getting on this one :p

Still, even though my brain says wait for Volta and grab that, my heart says Vega 56 does not look to bad, would go well with my 4K Freesync monitor. I usually turn off a bunch of rubbish settings in games depth of field, motion blur etc which save me fps, so I may be able to get away with gaming in the 40-60 Freesync zone my monitor has. Over time Vega 56 could catch up to 1080 with driver improvements anyway.

Need to wait and see reviews and UK price, but I am not optimistic. With the pound climbing lately vs the dollar, if we can grab a Vega 56 for £375 then I would have done a straight swap with my 1080, difference being Vega 56 would be brand new, rather than the 1080 which was Gregster's old card (credit to him though, the card looked brand new) :D

Google says:

$400 = £302
+VAT then = £362.40

So hitting £375 should be very possible. I personally would not pay a penny more.

I agree. But my conclusion is different.
Most people are not us. I've seen it 100 times.

Person A "What grafix card shud i buy??"
Person B "Buy a Nvidia 1"
Person A: "Why not AMD?"
Person B: "Becos AMD is ****, Nvidia is good"

Yeah, annoying that. Has been that way for over a decade. Even when AMD had the best performance card, people would say this. Only way to get away from this would be AMD having the best cards and prices for like 3-4 generations of cards imo.

Same as Carmack really, they both seem very awkward in public, Tim Sweeney sounds like a kid talking and Carmack has all these odd sounds he makes when he's speaking.
Do you mean his accent? lol

@beany_bot is right, every time i see GPU chat on Twitch channels, this is exactly what i see.. "AMD sucks", "Go Nvidia", "Nvidia FTW".

There is some serious fanboyism on just Twitch alone.
Yeah, and more I see this more I seem to prefer AMD for some reason. Trouble is, AMD make it hard to like/support them at times.

Have patience :D:D:D. Mate just moved from a 290x to a 1080ti and so far he ain't impressed with it's 4k capability. He expected to much. Keep telling him it's a beast yet 4k gaming is still not possible if you want to turn the sliders up. He's more impressed with just how good his nearly 4 year old card is. I am much more impressed as i follow the hardware side and to me it's a really fast card. Just shows how much the performance leaps have slowed down and with 1 card 4k is still not ideal. Really think he was expecting 4 x the performance and not 2 x. Hopefully AMD get back in the game soon so we can get some real performance upgrades.

I managed fine with 4K with my 1070/1080 to be honest. You just need to know what to turn off or lower without loosing IQ. Way I see it is, in most games at 4K, optimising sliders to get fps, the game still looks better than 1440p with everything whacked up on maximum. These days many effects named Ultra or Nightmare you cannot see the difference when playing vs a setting below, yet the performance difference in fps is like owning a 1080 to a 1080Ti. So by optimising and unlocking all the fps, I get a free upgrade :D

It really does look good right Loadsa? I would have bought it had it been £500.

Retail staff reports high levels of mining performance with AMD's RX Vega

A member of Overclockers UK staff, Gibbo, has reported that AMD's Vega series cards offer some insane levels of mining performance with hash rates of between 70 and 100 per card. To put this into perspective RX 580 GPUs can achieve hashrates of around 26-29. "
Lovely! lol

Yep, Gibbo will be pricing the Vega 56 not at £375, but £500 now.

Well It was no brainer that Vega will mine good since Vega FE mines good...
What does it mine good? I thought it was crap with ETH, but could be good with something else I suppose.

Shhhhhhhh, don't be giving him any ideas! :p
I am starting get ideas myself :p

AMD cannot catch a break it seems. Retailers will certainly be all over this with gouging prices, i mean its good business so why not and while cards will be selling AMD will not gain more market share in the gaming department. But i guess selling to miners is better than not selling at all. I just think it stinks, cause i really do like a lot of the things AMD are trying to push in the gaming market.

If it is true and they mine equivalent to 3 RX 580's then no wonder AMD priced them like that. I would rather AMD made the profit than retailers (more R&D for Navi etc). Sorry OcUK :p

Mining possibly could also be why AMD have delayed so much with Vega. Remember the mining craze went even crazier back in April. Look who demand for 480/580 cards have gone through the roof and AMD can't possibly meet that demand with their resources. IF Vega FE was shown to be brilliant at mining, that would have ruined AMD's RX Vega launch. Miners make them good short term money, but, it doesn't increase their presence in rest of the PC world. IT would actually make their image worse as they would always be seen as more expensive option and never in stock.

It could be a big reason why they pushed back the launch and have hampered Vega's FE gaming performance, to build up enough stock so they have enough for Gamers and Miners.

Will see in a few weeks.
Could very well be.

Really? :( I've been waiting since March to see what Vega was like.

Why are people paying £600+ for 1080ti's if Volta is close?

Still game on my 970. But desperate for a new monitor.

An option I guess is just buy a 1400p Gysnc monitor and carry on with the 970 and wait for Volta.

But then again, waiting for a product we have no idea when arriving....

or

I buy second hand 1080 at around £350 so that if I do decided to upgrade again to Volta it's not too expensive.

Yeah. But at least when you wait for Volta you know they will be improving performance, not offering nearly 15 month old performance for nearly the same price.

If you can get a 1080 for £350, it would be worth getting that I suppose, but probably will be hard to grab it at that price any time soon due to inflated prices from miners.

Wait for Vega reviews, if disappointing and prices no good due to mining, just spend the money on a G-Sync monitor to keep you happy until Volta arrives. In your position I would be that.
