Goes missing? Never heard of Flopper.
You missed out then, he was the biggest AMD fan here. His posts were so pro AMD, it was funny to read.

Here is the type posts he would make:

die shrink, 2.5 times more efficient this generation cards with HDR screens is really a brighter future for all AMD buyers its even 2.5 times brighter than before and thats bright!

Polaris the star of AMD

Made Shanks look neutral, just like @Gregster ;) :p

And I swear Flopper used to put his comments through 3 different Google Translates for the extra funnies :D
Hahahaha :D

This is a disappointing release, it doesn't seem much of a step up from Fury and it consumes a quite ridiculous amount of power. I always follow AMD's releases as you never know when they pull something out of the bag but for a while now (with the GPU's) I find myself getting lower expectations every time. I will still be looking forward to Navi as its Raja's first full release but that excitment has certainly been tempered... :(

Same here, looking forward to what Raja will pull out the hat with his Navi. But this time my expectations will be lower.

Never worry folks, Flopper is sitting back relaxing and sipping on a smooth glass of Vega FineWine.

:D

The fact that I have freesync and this FineWine Tech is about the only reason I can see myself ending up with a Vega 56 at launch if I like the reviews and can find it at a decent price relative places that will no doubt try and price gauge. Might justify it by saying it will go in my other machine next year :p

...but these post Brexit price increases came in when the pound was below $1.20 in the Autumn of 2016, now it's gone up by 10% to the $1.30 level, where's the corresponding reduction in prices?..nowhere.
That is unfortunately how it seems to work. That is why I find it hard to be loyal to any company. They are never loyal to us.

Well I would be interested in buy anyone's Fury or 390 if anyone is looking to sell to upgrade soon. Got a wanted thread up :D

@LoadsaMoney - You sure you don't want to sell me one of your Fury Pro's? :p

You holding out for Navi now or Vega 20 lol.
I am holding out for the one after Navi actually :p:D

Not sure what I am holding out for to be honest. Right now want something that supports Freesync and is cheap and ideally that does not sound like a jet engine. Once the games I want to play start coming out next year, I will decide what I want then.

Yea things were easier back in the day when you knew performance at your price range would be moving forward at a decent rate every year. Now it's performance goes up but only if you want to spend a lot more than you did a few years back. The gpu market is turning into madness.
Yea :(

I am seriously looking at a new build soon but the pricing is really putting me off. I will probably jump this one last time but if things keep going as they are i doubt i will be building another after this one if pricing keeps going the way it is.
Consider waiting for 7nm Ryzen. That is what I will be doing. By then the architecture will be more mature. Around that time Navi will come out also. If AMD do not mess it up I plan on building a full AMD system around 2019.

They do not need to be the best, they just need to be competitive and shake things up by improving price for performance. Which what Ryzen did and Vega seemingly does not IMO :(

Navi is supposedly smaller Gpu's of upto 4 working as one to give greater performance. A little like Threadripper using infinity fabric to make join i think 4 cpu's together which work as one.
If they get that right and the performance is there without driver issues, it really will be very exciting new tech worth buying.

Glad I ordered one a few weeks ago when they were going real cheap on another retailer.

Should tide me over nicely until Volta which i expect it will be out in March next year.
I nearly grabbed one cheap also from the same place. But did not fancy a 3rd Pascal card. Now looks like I will be left waiting for Volta as AMD over priced Vega.

There are already mining cards listed for the 480\580 etc, if the mining trend continues its probably to assume they would do the same for vega gpu's.
Mining is no way near as good as it was last month where we saw prices go silly. So unlikely.

for those who missed the livestream :D

Managed to watch about 30 minutes of that. Raja is certainly improving his presentation skills and AMD as a whole seem to be getting better. Still not there yet, as they fail to get the crowd hyped and pumped enough to make a lot of noise and applause, but getting there. Maybe they will nail it for Navi :D

A small part of me is still tempted by Vega 56 :o:p:D

This was presented to tech press, there won't be any hooting and hollering. :D
There should be :p

Plus Lisa was expecting something when she first came on stage and said hello.

Nice to see you are monitoring the forum Matt, tell Lisa & Raja, we want better pricing in the UK! :p

Vega 56 for £350 and I might bite ;)

Has this been posted?

Only like 3-4 times, not to mention I put it in the OP.

If anyone wants a round up of all the info just go to the first post ;)

Lol it amazes me on reddit, there are still a load of people expecting the performance to increase by large margins even though AMD have came out and given a very good idea of what to expect in performance.... If that isn't denial I don't know what it is.
I also expect performance increase. I am just realistic in also expecting it to get it over a period of 1-2 years, not weeks :p

Why oh why did they choose to delay reviews for another two weeks tho?

Most drawn out product launch I can remember.
Most likely reason is they want to spend as much time possible to eak out every bit of performance they can with the driver before those initial reviews, which is a clever thing, as once those reviews hit, they will not be edited in the future and forever show Vega in a good or bad light.
