Once Volta comes out and NVIDIA forgets about Pascal then both the Vega 56 and 64 will leave the 1070 and 1080 in the dust and the 64 may even come close to the 1080ti but sadly all these cards will become irrelevant when it actually happens. I am still miffed that a 290X is performing much better than my 970 in current games which is why I really wanted to go AMD this time around but not at these crazy prices
Yeah. AMD are just making it hard to support them with their price for performance. Had Vega come out 12 months ago, I would have no complaints.

In all honesty I would rather AMD get my money as they need it a lot more than Nvidia. They need money and market share. I want to see them being able to compete with each other so we can get better products and better prices. But AMD are asking to much this time and there is a good chance after seeing reviews and prices on Monday I will skip Vega and wait for Volta :(

Don't forget AMD have a driver cheat to override the levels of tessellation and games are supporting it more and more now, it's not necessary NVidia's fault that they rendering games how they are supposed to which happens to hurt them more.
You see no visual difference and that is all that matters.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6t7hui/vega64_liquid_edition_nowhere_near_100mhs/

It seem confirmation on 70-100MH/s hash rate on RX Vega was turned out to be fake news and TweakTown tested RX Vega Liquid Edition with final driver was nowhere near 100MH/s hash rate.
Was thinking I would maybe buy the liquid edition and do a bit of mining so it would be like a subsidy to bring the price to what it really should be (£400-500) but now I cannot see any reason to pay the silly asking price :(

Amazing how something can be overpriced before it is priced.

Maybe it's one of those paradoxes.
It is priced. Where you been bro? Or you think Gibbo is going to sell it at a loss for us? If you look most things sold here are pretty much straight dollar to pound conversion, is there something I am missing that will change this?

It doesn't matter they are more expensive, as thats what they've been showing with their Pepsi Challenge, its all about the FreeSync, when they were showing their slower cards on FreeSync, against Nvidias faster ones, under G-Sync, with the same range, they were both running the games exactly the same, as they both never went above, or below the Free/G-Sync range.
Price always matters, to me anyway.

But I assume you was being sarcastic with that post anyway :p

I think he is referring to a tweet they made confirming that it does not do the rumoured crazy hash rates. They actually never said what the hash rate was however, so don't think anything was broken.

Actually what I am talking about is in a link a few posts above anyway... Bit confusing as we talking about this stuff in a few threads these days :p

I dont think that is saving gamers just yet. Nvidia cards were pretty bad at mining (some crypto dont remember which) until someone took their time and coded cuda for that coin. Cards are going to be published and miner will take hard look on the card and code specific software for them. Vega Fe had really weird memory benchmarks + AMD specific slide for miners with RX.
Well I have a specific hash rate in mind. If the liquid edition can hit that, I may buy it. Mainly because I really like how the card looks and I would just keep the monitor I have and save the hassle. But that does not change the fact that ultimately I feel that AMD have not met my expectations with price for performance.

We need a new poll
  • I'm going to buy Vega on Monday
  • I'm waiting for all reviews first
  • I'm waiting for 3rd party cards
  • I'm giving up all hope and buying Nvidia, a console or just turning Amish

Yea. We should get this up :)

If it was in the poll, would be the clear winner.
  • I'm waiting for the reviews, then buying Nvidia
:p

Hahahaha. I can think of a few that would vote for this :p

Without reading thru this whole thread. What happened to the holocube thing?, how did it
Turn into getting an acrylic block instead

Edit:- Never mind found my answer on google
So what did you find out? Lol

It does seem sad they would show off the nice holocube, then later send out the cheap underwhelming one. Worse part, if I purchased an overpriced liquid edition. I bet I would get no cube. AMD marketing right there...

Sometimes I feel if AMD had no marketing department, they would be better off :p

We have already got a thread for all the mud slinging, that would be this thread !!!!
We will have 4 threads. Mud slinging here. You already made a reviews thread. Now can make one each owners thread :)

But to be honest I could have easily posted reviews in this thread, but I know you like them posted in a certain way ;)

Tech of Tomorrow had the Air Cooled Vega - 750w PSU printed on box.

AdoredTV had the Water Cooled Vega - 1000w PSU printed on box.

Just in case anybody didnt noticed :)
Not a problem for me. Got a nice 1000w PSU myself. I bet my whole system with a liquid edition would not take 500w anyway.

@opethdisciple - I see you did not wait for reviews and bagged a 1080 on members market ;)

At least you got it at a decent price. Better than paying what you originally was saying :p

One thing people often forget with PSUs is that it isn't just about the averaged power draw - you'll have things like current inrush and other spikes and transients, etc. to deal with time to time - which the specs will make some allowance for but still. Plus pair up one of the newer Intel 7xxx CPUs with an overclocked watercooled Vega and LOL GL running that on a 650 watt PSU :O

Good point. That is why I am happy I have a good quality beefy PSU. No need to worry as it does not need to struggle and put strain on components and create lots of noise and heat.

:p I decided that Nvidia was a safer bet. Going Vega was like betting against Nvidia. Which in the long term isn't a clever move.

At least with a Gsync panel I will be ready for Volta and beyond. Once you go AMD and a Freesync panel as far as I'm concerned your vendor blocked in. I'd rather be locked in to Nvidia than AMD. Even if AND have turned a corner, smart money still bets in Nvidia.

Do not blame you one bit. AMD made your decision easy with lack of performance from Vega. If reviews do not grab me, I may just do the same :p

It's also just a drop in replacement for my 970. Dual slot and 8 pin ready to go. Also reviews say the 1080 G1 draws as much power as an overclocked 970. Perfect!

Shouldn't have to modify my PSU either even if it is pretty old. (Over 5 years maybe more)

Also the monitor I want is a Gsync one (Dell S2716DG)
TN? Urgh...

Tried to convince myself to go TN quite a few times, as it is cheaper and you get away from IPS glow, but then you have poor colours and if you move your head much everything shifts :(

It looks good and does get good reviews on the OcUK product page.
Not saying it is bad or anything. Good for gaming, but not the best colours and image quality. Great for twitch gamers though :)

Here is a very good review:

But it ultimately made me change my mind from buying it in the past.

Anyway, back to Vega, not long left now :D

perfect but your in the wrong thread

True true.

Not long to go now, i think Vega is going to get hammered in reviews for its power usage, even if it somehow is on par with 1080 ti its still consuming between 50 and 100 watts more depending on air or aio and that's something that just about every review is going to zero in on. They can negate that some with pricing but its still the elephant in the room and something amd badly need to work on.

It does have some tinges of being another 2900xt with it being rumoured not to be a top level contender and the obvious power usage being a strike against it. Roll on tomorrow to see what the reviewers think.
If the performance is there, especially good minimums, then I am not as bothered about power consumption much. Makes very little difference even in the long run unless you are retired and game 24/7 or something :)
