a bit hypothetical here but...
if Nv and AMD's top cards both performed exactly the same in every way shape or form, same price/temps/design/power usage/fps/warranty etc...

which would you buy?
Assuming they were on the same release cycle also...

AMD. They need the money a **** ton more than nV do. If there was literally nothing else between them, I'd support the underdog.

Either or, i don't have a "sync" monitor of any description (even though my fury x seems to think my monitor is freesync capable) and i don't intend to change anytime soon. :)

AMD unless the price is bonkers, then I would abstain from both.

When a 480 can pump out sufficient fps in Doom under the Vulkan api at 1440p, I see no reason to support half assed game developers or card makers rigging the market to avoid producing quality products and expect me to spend my money to overcome their shortcomings.

BenQ BL3201PT

Depending on the manufacturing date some of those monitors ARE capable according to reviews/forums (although BenQ doesn't mention it for some reason).

Have you tried enabling it?

Vega released today means its likely got a trajectory into the future. Where as buying 1080ti you are buying an already squeezed orange, its already been strung to its peak and well done to Nvidia for their business plan but if its equal like you say then Vega I suppose will develop from here most probably.
Thats a guess but AMD and just any new card in general is more exciting, easy choice for Vega then.

However things are not all equal, at same price ti would be the obvious choice. I wouldnt buy a ti though, wait for a nicer Vega or even longer wait for Volta which again is more exciting re vulkan or whatever feature wanted. I've heard its best to wait for 240hz monitor technology to develop a bit, apparently that is worth having

I can see it already, in the next 72 hours members market will be flooded with 1080 and 1080Ti's from people wanting to upgrade.

How is that an upgrade when it's literally worse performance? It's way worse than my 1080ti, by a considerable - 30%~ - margin!

Someone who already owns the 1080ti and doing just fine is very different from somebody doing a new build maybe biased to Ryzen and AMD. Maybe thats the wrong thinking but I can see non forum OCUK buyers, etc not being half as negative as this thread has been, ie. no preconceptions.

I'm taking the prices as placeholders personally and assuming reviews say its an AMD 1080 :o I also expect the card to be like a small 300w space heater capable of heating an entire room lol

The cooler for my Vega/ThreadRipper system arrived!

I hope I don't end up regretting spending so much on a freesync monitor this week! Hoping the prices/performances being quoted aren't true.

Thats why i dont have Free or Gsync monitor since no Vendor limit. Besides that neither work with passive 3D :/ includes dx12 no 3d support :/

Most of these Benq monitors are freesync but they never advertised it or put the badge on. Also some run at 75Hz as well if you are lucky.
