The most intersting bit is in this video from 16m 42 he states that RX Vega won't be able to use the drivers that the Frontier can.

This also beat the Titan XP (older one I think) with scores that are 1250 and 1050 in Cinebench.

Interesting vid, i couldn't help but notice that guys squint

300 watt tdp as well, not quite as bad as people were expecting. And to be fair it was giving the titan a bit of a kicking in those benchmarks. Just need to see if that translates to games.

Btw there seems to be another Pro version of Vega that is coming soon. So that confirms the fact that Fe isn't Pro card and is more like prosumer one

Yes, both PcWorld and Exxactcorp have confirmed Frontier Edition does not use Certified professional drivers.
It's only using driver more "optimized" for those workloads as well.

So will be interesting to see how it does in gaming compared to Titan Xp as well.

To me, the frontier editions appears to be a part that is supposed to be sitting between Enthusiast and Pro. considering not having certified drivers but its drivers are more orientated towards pro usage, yet it can switch to game drivers if wanting.

Have AMD invented a new "prosumer" class of card with FE?

Kinda yeah. It might be a proper Prosumer card. It's a Radeon, Pro, and Instinct in one; although doesn't excell at either.

Interestingly for Machine Learning it's faster than the Instinct MI25. It has 26 TFLOPS vs 24 TFLOPs of FP16 compute; and likely costs significantly less.

You can install Geforce drivers on Quadro cards cant you?
No

Do you reckon we will be able to pre order rx vega on July 30th? I want to grab something before the miners take all the stock.

I'm planning to pre-order as soon as I am able
Hope we get a rough idea of benchmarks etc before dispatch.

To make an informed (ish) decision whether to keep the order or not.
That way can beat the miners to the punch...hopefully.

Failing that - if I take delivery before reviews are up.
Keep it sealed to return within 14 days if reviews aren't up to scratch

Not really. That's the air-cooled version. The article confirmed that the water-cooled version is up to 375W corroborating the fake, copied, stolen info released earlier :D

If the performance is there i doubt many will care, besides the usual point scoring brigade.

Saw this guys, thought you might be interested. Pretty preliminary though.

It's actually annoying how they tell us they're going to test some games and then all we get is how they're hard pressed to tell the difference between the two, So basically they told us nothing new regarding gaming.

While AMD didn’t want to reveal any gaming performance, it agreed to give us a taste of how Radeon Vega Frontier Edition performs in gaming. So we switched out the 8K Dell panel for a pair of Acer 34-inch, wide-aspect 3440x1440 panels, and AMD let us play games on both the Titan Xp and the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition.

To show it wasn’t just an API advantage, AMD let us play Doom using Vulkan, Prey using DirectX 11, and Sniper Elite 4 using DirectX 12. All of the games were set to their highest game settings, and we played at the native resolution of the panels. Although the identical panels were FreeSync-based, FreeSync was switched off on the AMD GPU.

Switching back and forth between the two systems, we’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Titan Xp and the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. Of course, we’d expect such performance from a $1,200 card, but many are concerned that Vega just won’t perform.

I hope they don't try to price RX Vega like a Titan or push to far beyond £500.

Because the drivers aren't specifically tuned for it was the impression i got. Not much point showing frame-rates if that was the case.

There actually used to be visual differences between the two camps as they used different techniques to pump out textures etc.
