Stumbled across a Palit PCB breakdown - I emailed Buildzoid about it, he pointed out that "the US5650 isn't the Vmem controller" so take that site's analysis with a big grain of salt. Bz also pointed out that "it's definitely possible to hard mod the power limit since Nvidia uses the same power sensing circuitry on the 20 and 30 series." that means we can use a shunt mod - waayyy to early to break out soldering irons, imho, we might yet get a moded vbios to open up the power limit.

They also had a look at the Palit 3070/80 cooler.

Palit Jetstream 3070 has a 122% BIOS, however, it has a 12+2 phase VRM vs the GamingPro's 10+2, so I'm bit leery flashing it as the GamingPro lacks a dual BIOS. I don't have a spare GPU atm and I don't want to try blind flashing - if it black screens. I would really like to find a 120+% BIOS on a reference VRM board. Anyone with a 12+2 board feel BIOScurious?

I just managed to purchase a ASUS RTX 3070 TUF Gaming OC... in stock... and ready to ship. :eek:

And if that wasn't enough...

Earlier in the day I bagged a ASUS RTX 3060Ti TUF Gaming OC as well. :eek:

2 months and sweet nothing... then two cards come along on the same day.

If you can give them as much power as the BIOS lets you, crank up the memory and bench them - I, for one, would be really interested to see the results.

OK, this is my theory:

3070 is being soft replaced by 3060ti, nV have had terrible yields at Sammie's fab and board partners have been leaking about how unhappy they are with the margins on 30xx. My great 3070 replacement conspiracy let's Nvidia harvest more imperfect cores and the board partners can fill the 3070 price point with upmarket 3060Tis. Both cards would run much faster if Nvidia relaxed the power limit, so highly overclocked 60tis with 3070 coolers and permissive vBIOS can fill the spot of our babies. This let's the board partners push up their margins, something they have been, reportedly, very keen to do. I'm guessing 3070 stocks will get replaced ever slower and 3060Ti cards will get more upmarket flavours.
Then, once yields are up in Sammie's fab, they can make a 70Ti from full (6144 shader / 48 RT) GA104s - just in time for the 6 month refresh.

Sounds entirely plausible. I was surprised just how close the 3060Ti was in performance to the 70. Your theory also explains why they started with the 60Ti rather than the plain 60. After the 70Ti comes out the product stack will make sense (especially if there’s a 20GB 80Ti sat above it).

Managed to snag a gigabyte 3070 OC Gaming this morning from all places FB market place from a guy that lives around the corner and the crazy thing is I paid 1p more than OC's asking price. Will keep it until I can grab a 3080ti

I got bored of waiting for a 3080 so overpaid for an MSI Gaming X 3070 last week.

It's a beast compared to my outgoing EVGA 1080Ti. Very impressed with it though, sits at 60c during games and is barely audible. I would post a photo of the box, but that's in the loft now.

£700 for the gpu which is overpriced IMO but rrp at the moment.
Been building the PC since August when my old intel 4670 builded killed its r9 280x GPU.

Have not kept a tab of prices on other parts but managed to get 5800x on release day and everything else at decent prices, due to not being in a rush.

Managed to snag a 3070 fe from a local 'scalper'. I know, believe me, I KNOW, but TBH, he really wasn't much more expensive than the current inflated retail prices + UK island & highland delivery, so I really can't fault the chap. I had been hoping for a 3080 or 6800 XT, but this'll do for now. It's still a huge upgrade on the 980ti I had previously.
