The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Yes I know the feeling :)

One of the reasons I started posting my watching bits here even if it's just a record for myself, so I can keep a rough idea of what I wanted to watch next each week or so.

My big problem is I'm starting to pick up Animes that have finished (assasination classrom is my next one to start tomorrow), so there's no nice weekly break for each episode. It just turns into a bindge-fest haha!

I couldn't get into either Beastars or Land of the Lustrous though I think the former got the traditional 3 episodes, but the latter I could only stand to watch one.

That's fair, gotta try these things to see if you like them, and you did :)

I always like to try and go into most things with a bit of an open mind, which is one reason I like to know as little as I can about the things I see before I watch them.

I tell you one I hated but endured and that was devilman crybaby.

I used to find about 8 episodes in to some shows I'd be really lagging and hating having to get through them each week, but at the same time felt like I was too committed at that point to stop... I've got better of late about just starting one and being like 'no this is arse, I'm out'... I think it was after something I was watching and was terrible kept going past 12 or 13 episodes and I looked it up on MAL an it had a 24 run or something and my despair made me take stock and wonder why I was doing that to myself, haha.

Mates got me hooked on Gundamn: Iron blooded orphans. Was always a fan of the original series and multiple figurines from jp.

Probably something everyone who cares has seen, but it looks like we may be getting more Macross in the west, apparently the US and Japanese companies have decided that rather than keep throwing lawsuits at each other and trying to bury the hatchet in the others backs they're going to co-operate in regards to allowing licencing.

With luck this might mean we see things like Macross in HD (with both sub and dub), a new release of Macross Plus and the first official western releases of the likes of Macross 7 (even though that's the weakest of the bunch), Zero and Frontier etc.
I know I'd be up for a Frontier, Zero or Plus release on blu-ray:) or even just being able to watch them on streaming with a good sub.

In what I've been viewing I'm slowly watching some "so I'm a spider" which is fun and holds true to the books although they've rearranged things a bit, and "The Hidden Dungeon that only I can enter" which is fairly fun so far but i'm not sure it won't drop in quality.

I watched Konosuba season 2 which was good fun, although it seems extremely short and left me wanting more, and "The Ancient Magus' Bride" which I thought was very well done, nicely paced and a good progression for both the main characters with a wide (for a 24 ep series) selection of reoccurring secondary characters.

I've not heard great things about Ikkitousen.

@Jay85 there are lots and lots of Gundam things, but Iron Blooded Orphans has been recommended to me before as one worth trying. I've not see any others but apparently it stands well by itself without any knowledge of the rest of the series.

@Werewolf I think there is a film for Konosuba set after season 2, have you seen it? For The Ancient Magus' Bride would you say it stands well on it's own as a complete story? or is there more to come in another season?

Aye IIRC the Konosuba film comes after season 2, and before S3.

I'd say the Ancient Magus Bride works well as a self contained story, I'm not sure if the manga goes further but the anime ends at a good point, however it is I suspect one of those anime where how much you'll get out of it depends on preferences so probably try and watch a few episodes before buying (IIRC it's on Crunchyroll in their free plan). I think I'd got about half way through when it was only up on streaming but got side-tracked until I picked it up cheap a few months back.

No worries @Werewolf might be a bit before I get around to it anyway, but I'll keep it in mind :)

Update on my watch status:

Finished:
  • School-Live! - I thought this was pretty good all told, it was only 12 episodes as well which made for a nice short watch.
  • The Misfit of Demon King Academy - After my previous assessment, I think I'd say this started better than it ended, ending was a bit meh, and the over-complicated magical system hindered this show greatly. This is Irregular at Magic High School but not as good in my opinion.
  • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime S2 - As always I do enjoy Slime, this series had some plot issues, but I don't like to post spoilers so I won't mention them. It didn't prevent the show being entertaining though.
  • Jormungand - This was a bit of a blind-watch but I actually quite enjoyed it in the end, the characters were interesting, the action was pretty good. Apparently it's a bit like Black Lagoon so I may check that out sometime soon.
  • Dr Stone - This had a really interesting premise, but I found the characters annoying, and I could see it wouldn't be my kind of thing. Dropped it after 2 episodes.
  • High Score Girl - I didn't even get through 1 episode of this, the CGI was so janky that I couldn't bear to watch it. Dropped it during episode 1.
Continuing:
  • Gurren Lagann - 18/26 episodes done as part of a simulwatch. Class GL can't go wrong really. Seen this one before.
  • Clannad - 24/48 episodes done. This got a little better as it went along, I will reserve judgement for when I get through season 2 though. I don't think it's blown me away so far though.
  • Symphogear - 36/65 episodes done. The formula is getting a little stale really, as the plot is so ridiculous you just have to kind of roll with it, but I'm at the start of season 4 and will probably push on.
  • Jujutsu Kaisen - 13/24 episodes done. This is part of my catch up from last season list, this has pleasantly surprised me so far, it's definitely one of the better shonen style shows and MAPPA do a great job with it.
  • Hyouka - 14/23 episodes done. I am enjoying this show despite it not really having a distinct goal in mind. The cast are all likeable in their own way, and the mysteries they solve cause me to try to solve them myself (sometimes unsuccessfully). KyoAni animation is top quality on this as usual as well.
  • GATE - 12/24 episodes done. I don't think I'd recommend this. You learn this quite fast so it's not really a spoiler mind. It's basically the "what if Japan had another chance to take advantage of the age of discovery and go colonising uncontested?" anime. The JSDF are inexplicably used in conquest, under the guise of helping. It's really patriotic, I imagine it would be like the Americans making a film about them winning the Vietnam war instead of losing it. I am mainly still watching it so I can watch Rory swing that axe around.
  • Sword Art Online - 6/97 episodes done. I'm going to watch some more before I comment further, so far it seems like a bit of a daft game world they are in for various reasons, which aren't explained (yet).
Planning to watch (short list - roughly in order probably. Bold = starting imminently):
  • SSSS.GRIDMAN
  • RE:Zero S2 cour 2
  • Great Pretender
  • Akudama Drive
  • Your Lie in April
  • Zombieland Saga
  • Golden Kamuy
  • Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere
  • Black Lagoon

I just found out that Legendary is making a live action "Gundam" movie, the director of Kong: Skull Island is on board with the project:

I'm cautiously optimistic about this, I'm a fan of the Monsterverse and find it a lot of fun so fingers crossed this is decent. If nothing else we can expect some impressive visuals I suppose.

Just got an email from ATA my Violet Evergarden collection is shipping!

I'm really looking forward to watching it on blu-ray rather than just streamed, especially as the UK release is meant to be really well done.

just unbox a package and what was inside was my order of Violet Evergarden blu-ray collection

Anyone check out coupe of these new animes.

86 - war themed futuristic conflict. Reminds me of Gundam iron orphans for some reason.

Megalo Box - Retro styled art with hero 's journey defying all odds to climb the ranks.

Megalo Box is a little on the grim side but I found it very enjoyable, it's the second season that's currently airing though, so I'd suggest looking the original up.
