The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

I just had my copy of Clannad/After Story delivered from MVM :)

I really need to try and sit down and watch more stuff, as my backlog isn't exactly going down and at the moment includes (amongst others) Charlotte, Clannad/AS, Kill La Kill, Kings Game, Planetes, and Utena.

I'm just going through some of my recent (last 4 months or so) anime purchases and adding them to my dvd profiler, trying where needed to put in basic details as for anime dvd's it rarely seems to have them (I suspect the number of people with DVD profiler, who buy anime AND update the profiles is tiny).

At some point I'm going to try and go back to some of my older entries where I just added them but didn't do any profile/submit one as there are a lot in my collection like that (and unfortunately some of them will likely not get an accepted profile because finding the release date for say old Beez titles is hard).

I wasn't huge on Mirai Nikki but I wanted to watch it just because it was mentioned a lot.

Not gonna do an exact write up anymore of stuff I've seen but a general catch up:

In the end I really liked Clannad, second season definitely better than first one for me. I think After Story was the saddest any anime has made me so far, I went like 8 episodes of being in a row of being an emotional wreck. I didn't like how they ended exactly but I won't go into details as to avoid spoilers. I still don't like the huge eyes (⓿_⓿) but the rest was so good :)

Grimgar was a really nice surprise, I loved how it was animated, really nice art and an interesting story.

SSSS. Gridman was not for me, my least fav Gainax/Trigger thing so far, I didn't get on with FLCL either. For me it's like KLK > GL/Franxx >>>>> Gridman.

Zombieland Saga was kind of meh, I hope Season 2 is better, I was going to drop it in season 1 but I own it, so thought may as well watch it.

I dropped Planetes on a try of watching it, just not my fish kettle.

Oh I also tried Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere but it started off so random no intro just boom stuff occurring, didn't seem like it would be my kind of thing so decided to cancel it :p

Can anyone recommend a decent, slow paced anime where they don't talk in such exaggerated ways? (glares at One Piece)

Wife and I have started to learn Japanese, and whilst I have pretty much committed 100 words to memory now, we really need to start working on actual spoken Japanese with all the confusing conjugations and whatnot.

I'm guessing something slice-of-lifey would better suit this need, but no idea which would be good ones (it's not our normal subgenre).

From what I understand they don't speak Japanese in anime exactly like they would in real life, I know there are some YouTube videos for ones that are better for learning from though than most.

We are already doing top 1000 word flashcards, as well as more formal lessons on youtube and specialist websites, but want to add an additional layer by sprinkling it in to our normal media consumption as well.

I've not seen the video but this was on my feed a while back:

Might help you pick something more relevant to try.

Tbh I know the odd words here and there, but I am far from knowing the language, it's still handy though. I also love how the subs all interpret things differently, pick out the odd thing where I'm like I definitely heard this word and the person doing the subs just puts something else down.

Kentaro Miura, creator of Berserk, passed away on May 6th from acute aortic dissection. He was 54.

I'm genuinely devastated. I've grown up with Berserk, and stuck with it even through all the lengthy delays between chapters. It has some of the most incredible art ever commited to paper.

RIP.

If it's any solace, he had his own studio with a group of assistants who were very capable. Miura oversaw a short manga called Duranki, where the assistants did most of the actual drawing, and you'd be hard pressed to tell it apart from Miura's own work. I'm sure he would've had notes for the rest of Berserk too, so I imagine we'll either see those notes released in some kind of novel or book, or his assistants will finish Berserk.

-edit-

Just found the Twitter of one of his assistants, and they've tweeted basically "right, I'll do my best". You could take that as either they'll take over and do their best, or they're mourning but will do their best in general life? I guess all we can do is wait.

Gutted to hear he'd passed away, and at such a young age. I do hope his notes get cobbled together so there is some closure to his story, albeit it will always be a shame he wasn't there to see it. 54 is no age to pass in this day and age.

We lost the director of Beck not long ago also at a relatively young age.

Sad times, and neither of them from C19.
