The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Ah, I was under the impression you'd had it a while.

It's an older series but I only got around to picking it up the other week :(

Doesn't look like it stops just there either! :) For anyone learning Japanese in this thread, it's probably a fun way to learn and enjoy yourself at the same time :).

Thanks for that, I'll have to take a look and see what's available :) I was reading a posting by Danny Choo the other day where he commented on someone who he had met on a recent trip to Taiwan who had passed the JLPT (I can't remember at what level) by just learning the language by playing eroge games ... I imagine that doing that may skew the vocabulary some what :)

Quick question
Himawari, Too!

Is this only available with Japanese language and English subs?
Got the first season for xmas and it had English language. Can`t find info on the second being in English or does anyone know if it is scheduled to be released?
:)

Finished Ookami Kakushi in the early hours of this morning, I could only really give it 5/10 unfortunately.

The original premise and setting is reasonable, and had potential, but unfortunately the plot is told in a fairly contrived and predictable manner, and the ending is just poor really (even excluding the final episode which wasn't even connected to the plot, and honestly was a waste of resources and time which should have been put into the main plot, or an OVA at a later date once they'd done a decent job on the series); I get the feeling this may well be another case of poor/cheap source material adaptation as I believe this comes from a game or visual novel.

Unfortunately, similarly to the plot progression, the characters are overtly cliche, predictable and somewhat wooden, there's no real plot twists, character changes or much unexpected once the initial premise and characters are lain out.

Thus I could only give it a 5. It's not unwatchable, but only recommendable as harmless time filler.

I have it on hand here ... audio is Japanese only with English subs, same as the release for the first season. As Demonix indicated it was released towards the end of December (assuming you mean R1).

Just watched the first episode of GaRei Zero.

One of the best opening episodes I've seen in quite some time; with some hinted plot line, plenty of action and a rather unexpected ending. I hope it doesn't go to waste over the next 11 episodes.

I'm not going to comment until you've seen the rest of the series.

Finished watching Tatami Galaxy last night Beez's DVD release. The basic premiss of the series revolves around the main male character who wants to have a happy and fulfilling university life. The series follows him and a group of strange characters through a couple of years and resets the story several times having him join different "circles" or clubs each time. The OP is by Asian Kung-Foo Generation and is very good.

As I mentioned previously the first couple of episodes require a lot of concentration ... there is a lot of fast paced talking and hence lots of subtitles to read very quickly. As NuclearWinter said this is not as bad in the later episodes but it is still a series which requires your full attention to watch to keep up with what's going on. The animation style is quite different as well and won't be to everyone's taste.

Overall I found the series an interesting watch and quite different from the norm. Some episodes I liked better than others but overall it was quite good. I can't say that the animation style is to my personal tastes but it's definitely worth looking past that to follow the story.

(I would also note that this is an irritating Beez release which locks down what the player can do, e.g. disabling the ability to return to the DVD menu at times (without stopping the disk and going from there to the menu), and also defaulting the menus to German if the disk is resumed after the player has been powered off. I only see this sort of language issues with disks from Beez).

edit: Had a bit of a break and didn't watch much today; only watched through the first few episodes for a couple of series from the current season ...

Amagami SS Plus - Watched the first four episodes. This covered the first two girls arcs ... I'm not really sure what this series is adding over the first series. The episodes were fine but felt very light and some what lacking ...

Ano Natsu de Matteru - Watched the first three episodes. I quite enjoyed this so far. Definite parallels with Please Teacher (which is a good thing, I liked that series) and I'll be interested to see how this develops.

I agree on Amagami SS Plus, was hoping for more but I suppose it is an alright filler series. Ano Natsu de Matteru is also a bit so-so for me really though there has been a few good scenes so far, so I will definitely carry on watching it.

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (Daily Lives of High School Boys) is my favourite of this season so far, some of the jokes have been really well done. Though it is closely followed by Nisemonogatari, very strange anime but I enjoy how refreshing it is to watch, plus Senjougahara fascinates me with the way she acts. 'Another' is starting to get going as a horror style anime and it certainly has me hooked on the storyline.
Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! (Listen To Me Girls, I'm Your Father) started off as an interesting anime, the first episode I was impressed, but since it has started to already feel a bit 'samey' which is a shame. Similar thing has happened with Inu x Boku SS, though I hope it does turn itself around.
Kill Me Baby I am finding boring, I can see me dropping it soon as it doesn't seem to be improving, if it says anything I feel asleep whilst watching an episode!
The only anime I carried on from the last season was Chihayafuru, it has carried on just as well as it started last season, except for the latest episode which is a recap episode. Definitely worth watching, and yes even if it is about a card game. :p
Finally I would say if you like your space scifi's then Moretsu Pirates is worth watching, it certainly is promising a good story but be warned, it is slow moving in story pace. Well that's all I am watching this season, 10 in total, though I can see me dropping Kill Me Baby soon.

I can't say that I thought much of the first episode of Kill Me Baby either, (and it did send me to sleep too). I watched the first half-dozen or so episodes of Chihayafuru last season and did enjoy it but my physical media backlog at the moment is preventing me from watching much of this seasons titles, (in fact my upstairs media playback box hasn't be powered up yet this year!). Hopefully I should get some more time in a few weeks.

Finished the first half of Kimi ni Todoke on NISA's BD release this evening. I like this series, and am also enjoying the manga (which is beyond even season two of the anime now in it's English publication). It's slow and simple but has nice characters and visuals.

The NISA release has a usual hardback book with it in the large sleeve and the first half of the series on BD and DVD. There is a potential issue with the second half of the series in that they were talking about not including a couple of recap episodes but it has been fed back that people want them included, if only as extras, so we will have to see what happens.

The only criticism I have of the release is that there were a few lines which seemed overly localised in the translation (compared with the English translation of the manga). But they were very minor.

Doh :o I must be going senile. You are all right it is in Japanese with English subs
I was sure I had watched the dub over Xmas:o
Oh well now where did I put my incontinence pants?????

If you happen to find them, could you check to see if my marbles are there as well?
I seem to have misplaced them...;)
I'm constantly forgetting what I've watched dubbed or subbed:p

Talking of watching stuff, I've been watching Diamond Daydreams which is proving to be very enjoyable and a bit different to most stuff I've been watching recently (it's a little like Emma, Maria, A*** and the like in that regard).

Diamond Daydreams is a nice little series ...I need to make a list of things to re-watch when I'm over my current backlog blip (my downstairs backlog alone is at around 119 episodes) and I think I'll have to add that to the list as it's been ages since I watched it last.

Need more hours in the day at the moment ...

Don't talk about backlogs, my anime backlog alone is current at
Utena Set 3, Bebop Remix, School Rumble S2 (and OVA's), Sorcerer Hunters, FMP: Fumoffu, Whisper & Arriety Blu.

That's before I even glance at my LA backlog (about 10 films, and two TV series at least).

Upstairs my immediately to hand backlog is sitting at around 53 episodes currently, (part of which is a 1 cour season 2 which I am awaiting a season 1 to ship for currently). This doesn't include the 6 or 7 series in my main collections back log which are lesser importance to watch at the moment.

Looking around in the last roughly three weeks I've managed to go through, that I remember ...

Initial D Stages 1-4 (~5 cour + film)
Towards the Terra (all but the last two episodes) (2 cour)
B Gata H Kei (1 cour)
The World God Only Knows (1 cour)
MM! (1 cour)
Kobato (2 cour)
Amagami SS (2 cour)
Tatami Galaxy (1 cour)
Modern Magic Made Simple (1 cour)
Kimi ni Todoke Season 1 Part 1 (1 cour)
Heaven's Lost Property Season 1 (1 cour)
Himiwari Season 1 (1 cour)

and I finished part 2 of Tales of the Abyss (7 episodes) this evening ... otherwise my backlog would be significantly larger than it currently is. And I am probably due a couple more things in the next week or so.

Tales of the Abyss Part 2 ... watched that this evening. I enjoyed part 1 but didn't find this part as good for me. The animation quality didn't seem to be as good and the story seemed to jump around to quickly. Things which you would expect some more time spent on, (even only a little), just get glossed over. I'm still liking the over all story and find it interesting but the series is starting to feel very rushed to me.

edit: Actually Werewolf Bebop Remix is in my downstairs back log too :)

@ANDARIAL, actually all of Initial D and 6 of the other titles listed above were all Christmas/Birthday pressies so I didn't have to buy them :)

Does anyone use Crunchyroll? I am considering trying the 14 day trial and the £4.99 premium membership. Is it worth it?

I have an annual premium membership and have for the last couple of years. It's fine, has a reasonable selection of stuff (the odd series isn't available in the UK though), as long as your internet connection is reasonable and your system can playback the video ok.

The IOS app works reasonably well on my iPad too.
