The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

That Mardoka looks sweat :)

I just picked up Solid State Society and Sky Crawlers on blu for £9 from HMV :) (blue cross sale).

amazon got 3 blu for £17 and only have 3 anime blu listed but one on the list is first squad which cost £20.99 if you buy it without doing the 3 for £17 offer.

Just watched The Girl Who Lept Through Time, what a masterpiece just pure brilliance.

I think I'll put that on my to watch list, it does look rather good.

Upon rave reviews from some friends, I've just finished watching code geass. I'd give the series as a whole a 7/10. Good, but not great - they re-used plot devices too often for a series about a battle of intelligence.

Code Geas was pretty good :)
I want to rewatch it in one go (S1 then S2 without a break for other stuff).

The Girl who leapt through time was very good :)

I've got Mardoch Scramble the Second Compression to watch in the next few days :)

Still need to buy spice and wolf and lots of other anime in my wishlist on amazon. Damn this anime gets expensive, luckily so far i havent picked any rubbish ones yet:)

well they green lite a third season of the world only god knows as well as a third season of dog days for 2013 releases.

I finally got around to watching TGWLTT at the weekend which I got in a double pack with Summer Wars which I still need to watch.

I've also got the live action version of TGWLTT to watch too.

I would note that despite Manga's attempts to sell the live action version of TGWLTT as related to the anime it actually doesn't work as such and fits better as a sequel to the original novel.

Watched Tamako Market earlier.

From the character designs you can tell it's Kyoto Animation and it certainly looked quite good ... but it just seemed to be missing something. The characters were fine but the story just seemed to be one joke most of the time (what will the fat bird (feathered kind) do this episode) ... it didn't really have much there to keep things interesting.

Never watched anime, but i've recently played some japanese games and have got interested in japanise culture n' stuff (my friend is going to japan, hopefully he'll bring me back some stuff :D)

What sort of genres are you interested in? Sci-fi, harem, slice of life, horror, action, comedy ... Anime is a media type rather than a genre of its own so big lists of "recommendations" can be problematic.

Anime Planet is a good site to browse to see what might interest you and then ask here if the series that do are any good and if there are any good ones like them.

Before getting your hopes to high bear in mind that most anime stuff in Japan is expensive so your friend may be limited in what he can get you.

Watched a couple more series yesterday and today ...

GJ-Bu ... usual sort of series set in a school club where the basis of the series is the interaction between the single male member and the various dysfunctional female members. Like other series of the type the action takes place just in the club room. It was quite an amusing series but didn't really do enough in order lift itself above average.

Yama no Susume ... odd little series about a couple of childhood friends. In the past they climbed a mountain together but now she is scared of heights and doesn't want to go out. I'm not that keen on series with 3min episodes ... by the time you get into the episode then it's over ... but that was my only real issue with this.

Edit: I should add that I also finished the second series of AKB0048 yesterday as well. That has been a good musical sci-fi ride through both series. The second series did have some pacing issues at times and not everything we would like answered was in the end but it was still a jolly good watch, (although you really need some knowledge of the *48 groups to get the most out of it). I doubt we'll see a direct sequel for casting reasons.

Some more catching up ....

Watched episodes 13-15 of season 2 of Saki which are three of the four (the fourth isn't due until May) of the episodes which are being tacked onto the end of the series which are following the "other side" of the national tournament (for anyone unfamiliar with Saki it's about high school competitive Mahjong). The episode were quite slow, as is normal for this show where one match can take multiple episodes, but were quite good. Trouble is that after the next episode it doesn't look like the next series is going to happen until next year now.

The other series I watched today was Love Live! School Idol Project. Basic premise is a group of girls forming an idol unit in order to attract new students and thus save their school. Overall it was a reasonable series. It did seem a tad rushed at times but it was generally ok and the insert songs were alright examples of their type. Personally I prefer Idolmaster if I'm going to watch an anime about girls in the idol area but this was an ok watch.
