The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

To give you an idea of how good I think they are, I've got Spice and Wolf at least twice now ;) (DVD and Blu-ray), and will be buying Mononoke and Spirited Away on blu as soon as they appear :)

On a slightly different subject, I watched Okami-san And Her Seven Companions (the new UK release) over the last couple of nights, which was enjoyable, although I could quite see it running for another 13 episodes or more.

Also, I don't think it's been mentioned here yet, but it looks like Kiki and Grave of the fireflies have been put back (again), this time to July.

FMA:B is still showing in my amazon orders list, so it could be that they've been told it's going to be delayed or something (I ordered it at £59.99 when it first popped up. as it was less than buying the 3 remaining sets I needed).

Nerusy, can you remember roughly when/where (IE was it on TV in the 90's?;)) you saw it, and the sort of animation quality?

It rings a bell, I don't think I've seen it*, but as it's ringing a bell despite that, it might be listed in ANN's buried treasure columns, where they went over older/obscure anime.

*Although I could be wrong, especially if it was on TV at some point.

[edit]
Just noticed my sig is broken (oh well time to look at doing a new one:p)

If it was that long ago on VHS (was it a pre-recorded one do you know?), it's likely to be either an old Manga UK title, or just about possibly an MVM or ADV one as they were the main (almost only) companies doing anime on VHS back then in the UK.

Could it be Detinator Orgun, as that sounds vaguely similar (and is in my collection, but I bought it about a decade ago, so my memories are fuzzy).
From memory it was probably released as a single VHS, or a pair of VHS.
It was also, I think on TV either on Sci-fi or C4 in the late 90's, as looking back I remember recording it onto tape at one point.

It's not similar in story, but in the feel I found A--as good :)

I've still got to get round to reading the S&W books, I've been getting them as they've come out but only read the first :p (and rather disappointingly from an OCD point of view, they seem to have stopped doing the slip covers on them:p).

\steam rises out of ears

Grrrr

I sort of wish they'd make their minds up about FMA:B, although depending on how they package the two sets, it could work out better for those of us who bought the initial releases (IE if they do set 1 as being two cases with the original sets 1 & 2, then set Two with three cases holding the remaining discs).
From what I remember seeing of their proposed compete set release, it looked like it was basically 5 double blue ray cases in a single card outer.

Looking at Amazon it seems that FMA:B is going to be two sets of 5 disks, at about £33 each (so £6 more in total than the original full set, and bang goes my idea of just picking up the new second set).

Andarial, I know the feeling a bit, I got caught out with both Witchblade, and Tsubasa, both of which resulted in me having multiples of early discs, then having to get the complete releases (I think I ended up with 3 copies of disc 1, 2 of 2 & 3, and then the complete collections).

well it still work out cheaper as the Volume boxset are price £22 each so 5 volume boxset at £22 soon adds up were now it 2 boxset at £33 each. manga ent wanted to do a one off release of the complete series Blu-ray long with the five volume releases but japan license holder had a hissie fit and now we get five volume release and 2 part complete collection release.

Aye, I've ordered the half collection set, and will do the same for the second set when it comes up :)

It only works out £6 more than the complete set I had ordered, so it's not bad :)

I thought that it was a good series but it did feel to me like it got a bit confused with itself at times .... Loved the penguins though, very Madagascar ...

Aye, it does seem a bit confusing at times, one of the things I like is how the Penguins seem to take on aspects of the person they've attached to/shadowing, so 1 is a little pervy and a ladies penguin, and 3 gets the little bow and starts to take up knitting etc.

You can also see connections to other work by the creators, for example there are scenes that strongly echo Utena, and Sailor Moon (I think, I've not actually watched sailor moon and only know rough details from clips and things......).

I think when the second half season set comes out I'll have to try and sit down and watch it start to finish paying full attention to it (god knows if I'll get time for that though - it seems I've always got a backlog these days, and the next few months are hectic for new DVD's).

It's been rather a long time since it finished for it to get a new season :(

Although having said that, it seems that Ah My Goddess* keeps getting OVA's (and a pity they don't seem to be getting licensed).

Deadman wonderland is up for pre-order now at various places :)

*It's taken me a year to read the first 9 volumes of the manga :p (although I'm doing better with that than Genshiken and Love Hina).

Chobits is great fun, and stands up far better than much of the anime from around that time :) (the original R1 box set was really nice).

I've just had shipping confirmation for Grave of the Fireflies on Blu-ray - I can't remember when I first ordered it, it's been delayed so many times:p
I'm also just about to enter the "drowning in anime" phase, given over the next few weeks there are a load of releases I'm getting :p
