Just to confirm, with iMacs on the Education store, you get the three year hardware warranty as standard and the Applecare uplift is just to upgrade the telephone support from one year to three, right?

I asked on live chat and the person I spoke to was adamant that without paying for Applecare I'd only be covered for one year by Apple (obviously in reality it's longer because of our statutory rights). But everywhere else online points to three years as standard, including in here, http://store.apple.com/Catalog/uk/Images/salespolicies_institutionHE.html

Edit ::

Whereabouts on the site is that?

That's right, 3 year for online or over the phone Edu Store purchases. If you buy from a retail shop using student discount, you get the standard 1 year.

New contract means new laptop... mostly Windows-based and I've become accustomed to using a nice quality mac laptop, compared to the usual crappy quality plastic laptops you get with fans that turn into helicopters after a few months... so i'm picking up a 13" MBP.

I've had a 15" for ages and the extra 2 cores has been nice on the odd occasion that I've used it for photo editing (rare)... so I think the 13" will do me nicer and the slightly smaller form factor and 0.5kg saving will be a nice improvement.

Buying a new laptop, a close family member is a head of department at a university, so she is "buying it for me"... Thought some of you might be interested in an overview of the latest prices.

I'm sure Skylake isn't far off now if your willing too wait a bit. I'm going too wait for a Skylake 13" and pick one up right away. I'm guessing with the nice battery savings gains we will see a even thinner device.

As I was about to purchase, I change my mind and went for the mid-spec Dell XPS 15

It's between the sizes of the 13" and 15" rMBP models, similar actual-use battery life to the 15 I have at the moment with a very nice quality UHD screen and a trackpad that's supposed to rival mac for a change.

I've also been noticing my usage preferences shifting back to windows for a while now... so I will probably use it more as a result.

Got the 1650 model for 1500 quid (always worth chatting to Dell sales):
15.6" 3840x2160
i7 6700HQ - 3.5GHz quad-core
16GB DDR4 2133
512GB NVMe SM951
GTX960 2GB
84WHr battery

The fan is supposed to be almost as quiet as the rMBP, which is one of the reasons I like the macbook - no whiney fan, even on a 2 year old unit... and the alu unibody looks to be really nice.

Quick question - is there any equivalent of the HE store for children in full time education (primary or secondary school)? MS do up to 10% but I cant find anything for Apple (could be my weak search skills though)
