To be honest the Applecare was £58 and pushes up the 2nd hand value so i'd just buy the applecare in store :)

Complete BS. Not true at all. Wait a couple of months and if it still hasn't updated follow the steps I posted earlier.

Buying in-store is not considered 'within the HE National Framework' and so you don't get the extended warranty. If you want it you'll need to return the MacBook, assuming you're still in the cooling off period, and buy online or over the phone.

ah, nobody told me the method of purchase affects the warranty !!!

How backwards is that? :/

Oh well, i might get that in the week then. I am not worried tbh, even if i don't have it. It's the lowest spec macbook pro, not a £2k 17" monster. Besides, i am sure if push comes to shove, Sales of Goods Act states 6 years warranty is reasonable for, i am sure i can argue even if its not 6 years, it should be more than 1 year for a premium product costing near £1k. :p

The ambient light sensor on my base model MBP failed a week after I bought it. Because of the compact unibody design, the repair involved the replacement of the entire screen. Without the warranty it would have cost me in excess of £300 :eek:

If you win in a small claims court they have to pay your court fees. Well this is what happened with me. They paid court fees as well as all my other fees.

Not that I'm suggesting you do this but just wanted to clarify it for you.

NOOOOOOOO. I find out next week if I am accepted for a Music Tech course. I NEED a macbook so was hoping the offer would still be on as I need something to store music on for the long 2 hour car trip it will be getting to the uni 3 days a week!
 
Something which I have only just noticed on the HE site...

When looking at the picture that explains Apple Care... Hardware support has 3 years complimentary shaded and software support (or whatever the other one is) has 1 year...

Different from the 1 year and 90 days (respectively) which it used to be...

A step in the right direction to help clear up this confusion!!!!
 
i would just buy it for the safe of mind.

To the person who would take apple to the small claims court or try to get them to exchange it after a year but under 6 years, best of luck, you wont win
