The Apple HE store - Full prices and details in here. *prices correct as of 15/06/10*

Ok I got my 15" macbook pro today after returning the 13". I have to say the 15" is not much heavier or bigger then the 13" but the screen rez is a lot better. I'm loving the 15" so far. I'm glad I took the 13" back now.

I got £250 off the 15" and got £220 off the 3 year applecare. I also picked up the iPod touch 8 gig and am going to get £130 back for that on the back to school offer. So many saving thanks to the H.E. discount, I'm very very happy with the deal I got.

did you find them on your HE network. i search while logged onto my uni network but could not find it after about 15mins i gave up!

i'm just going to keep at them and say i have it in front of me if they give any hassle ;)

There's a link in the OP is there not?

And just a reminder to everyone that if you buy a Mac in an Apple Store, you will NOT be entitled to the 3-year warranty. If you are starting Uni this September, so don't have access to the campus website, your best bet is to order over the phone.

It wont work on a HE transaction. Its not worth the bother of trying.

Ahhh...this pic led me to believe you could.

But you actually have the option of:

University, or other
Higher Education establishment

College, or other
Further Education establishment

or

School or any
other education establishment.

And I guess the cashback only works on the last option where the discount isn't as high as the HE discount.

there is but they are for a different uni, however i searched for HE agreement on google and it takes you to an interesting document. i'll paste contents below as its a pdf.

hopefully this will help everyone when they call about this.
and please do make sure you demand your 3 year warranty as you are entitled to it ;)

HE Apple Agreement
Technical, Warranty and Customer Service Support
Special Note: Although the following Service description is included in the Users Guide, it has proved to be extraordinarily difficult to reliably communicate the fact of the contracted 3-year warranty etc. to all end users, both corporate and private. This has not been helped by the inconsistent understanding and/or communication by Apple (UK) staff variously at the point of sale or support, or via its electronic media. Despite considerable efforts by the UACG members and by Apple’s own contract managers, there remains a degree of uncertainty about end-users’ knowledge in this respect. Please do not automatically purchase additional warranty or respond to Apple emailed messages about 3-months’ telephone support etc. until you have checked the status of your contracted cover, and have determined that such a purchase is necessary. If appropriate, confirm with your usual Apple account contact – quoting your system serial number – that the HE Agreement warranty & support terms apply. If and when there is any revision to these Terms it will appear in an updated Users Guide and via various messages.
Terms: One of the special National Agreement benefits negotiated on behalf of the HE community is the three-year, parts and labour warranty and one-year telephone support package. This package provides a three-year parts and labour hardware warranty for current Apple desktops and portables and a telephone technical support service to the member for one year from purchase covering the Apple desktop or portable hardware, Apple operating system and any Apple branded consumer software supplied with your computer as standard. Access to technical support and customer service is via the following phone number.
The support phone number is: 0845 378 0006 – please note that this number is for Institutions only, individuals should call 0870 876 0753
When calling the support line you should have available the serial number of the entitled Apple system on which you require support; this will assist the Apple technical support engineer in providing a prompt response to your enquiry. Apple’s goal is to work with you to find solution as quickly and efficiently as possible.
In the unlikely event the call determines that you require hardware service, depending on the Apple hardware product and your location in the UK, one or more of the following support facilities may be offered:
• During the 3-year warranty period Apple can, depending on the customer’s location, arrange either an on-site service for desktops (subject to normal Apple rules of availability of on-site service – please see section C “Service Options” of the document at the following URL for further details:
http://images.apple.com/legal/applecare/docs/AppleCare_Protect_Plan_EU_en.pdf)
• or a collect and return service for portables.
• Carry in Service – this involves transporting the product to an Apple Authorised Service Provider where repairs will be carried out
• Do It Yourself Repair – this may be offered where a simple module swap will resolve the problem if you are comfortable to carry out the swap. Full instructions will accompany the replacement part
If a Collect and Return service is being provided then the product should be boxed in its original packaging; or packaging that we send you. Apple will arrange for courier collection of the product, which will be repaired and returned to you. Any special instructions relating to the particular service being provided will be explained to you by the Apple technical support engineer and/or included with any packaging we send you.
Please always ensure that you have backed up your data before any repair is carried out as Apple cannot be responsible for loss or damage

The document linked to in the OP is generic though. You'll get to the same one if you go through your own campus website. Just scroll right to the bottom of the page and click on 'Terms and Conditions of Sale'.

@Feek, for clarification, it might be worth editing the OP to state that for those who have a newly purchased HE discounted Mac and are curious about their warranty, they should

1. Wait at least 2 months then check here for their warranty status.

2. Failing the above, phone Apple Support, quoting Terms and Conditions of Sale here if required.

3. Failing all of the above, and as a last resort, contact Kevin Duncan, Apple HE Contract Manager.

Just a warranty related update. I just bought a macbook through HE online store two weeks ago, and online is showing as 1year warranty. I hadn't read this thread about waiting two months (?!) so rang up.

Three advisors later, about an hour on the phone, and me refusing to accept that I should have bought applecare or have to return my machine and buy again with applecare, I got the following email summarising the outcome:
Further to our conversation, I would like to confirm that you are entitled to 3 years of warranty for hardware.
After the first year of warranty expires, it is automatically extended for another 2 years.
Apparently it will only show one year online, until that expires then it will update. Sounds pretty dodgy to me, but I'm keeping a copy of the email and the terms and conditions from when I bought it.
Nobody I spoke to new what I was talking about though, until I quoted the terms and conditions.

it's a joke, they havent a clue. I think the more we get people to pipe up about this hopefully they will get their staff up to date:rolleyes:

I think they are fobbing you off, my status was updated yesterday (bought my MBP 1 month ago)

Ok, my brother in law just got the MacBook pro instore with HE discount, but only 1 year warranty and he even spoke to the manger and he insisted it's only 1 year unless he pays for the extra 2 years.....that doesn't sound right.

Right?

Don't you have to get Applecare for the extra 2 years?

Just noticed when this thread was bumped a few days ago that mine is still only 1yr warranty :/

Cant believe this will be the third time I will have to contact Apple to sort it

ps3ud0
