I know mine's not the same motherboard (I've the SLI dual Esata2), but I'm sure it's not vastly different, flashing the BIOS was unbelievably easy from within windows and apart from the lack of a decent max. vcore voltage it's a superb board, I've even managed to keep my 2.6ghz overclock while using 4 sticks of PC3200, still perfectly stable.
what bios version u useing mate

Flashing is always easy, the problem is when they don't boot up afterwards ;)

Has anyone else had issues with getting them back up running after a bios flash?

The HDD and CD spin up however the monitor never comes back on, I've tried all the usuall different ram, single ram, clearing cmos several times, lots of restarting etc etc but no luck so far.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17457881&page=53&pp=30 and the following page has at least 1 user who had the same(similar) problem. He flashed his bios and the system wouldn't boot. BUT, there was nothing wrong with the flash and his bios chip worked perfectly in my motherboard. Sent it back and he managed to get his system going again.

1 tip i can suggest is to power off the system, then while holding the F2 button, turn the system back on. Keep the F2 key pressed and see if that helps.

the reason why the board won;t boot for many people is because they flash it with a less than stable system. the memory is the main problem. most people think that they are stable at 1t command rate when they clearly don;t do any extensive testing to provide confirmation.

all i can say to those people who overclock and don;t test is that you get whats comming to you if you slack on stability testing.

Well another hour of trying all combinations of stuff and the board is still dead.

All that happens is the power and HD lights come on, the hd light goes off and then nothing. The caps lock light on the keyboard wont come on etc, the tft monitor just says no source etc.

Any other ideas?

Thanks mate but managed to get it sorted ...

Turns out that the 1.8 official bios is not compatible with my ocz platinum rev 2 ram and one other house mates stuff :s used an old golden dragon stick to boot it up and have reverted to the 1.5 bios, now it's all peatchy with the ocz and didn't have any strange bios boot issues doing the flash.

I'll do some more testing over the weekend with settings and other bios files. But this ram and my cpu likes volts so probably can't OC much atm

Where did you read about the OCZ and 1.8 ?

btw, i just RMA'd one of these boards after having cold boot problems. I have the same RAM as well, i wonder if this was causing some problems, i had 1.5 on it for a while and then went to 1.8.

Oh I just meant with my memory, 1.5 is totally fine at 2-2-2-5 2t 200mhz (1t fails prime after 2 hrs). But with 1.8 it didn't even power on the graphics card :(

Gonna start to play with some OC's now and see how it goes.

not a bad board at all, but the bios needs sorting on it. if they can manage to get 1T working properly and add additional memory dividers in bios then that will make this board really excellent. would be nice if it could be tweaked so it will go a little higher on the htt too but then this board would be at the same level as the dfi lanparties for a fraction of the cost

Taken from a post of mine in the memory section concerning my faulty Crucial Ballisix memory.

Currently running with a mismatched pair of 512mb modules. 1 PC2700 and 1 PC3200. 100% stable @ 183 2.5-6-3-3-1T. CPU clock is now back upto 2740Mhz (274x10) after being flaky at most settings.

*Note the 1T, never ever been 100% stable using the Ballistx with 1T in this board.

Handy hint for anyone fitting a Zalman 9500LED heatsink to this board... keep a file handy!

You'll need to insert the two brass 'nipples' through the holes in the motherboard, from the bottom (ooh, nipples, bottom, it's all getting a bit saucy!). Only problem is that on my board they would fit in deep enough as they're too wide (oooooh errrrrrr). I had to file the ridges off so they'd slip in (fnarr, fnarr) and then I could get the long screws in (wibble, flub-flub)

[that's enough, Finbarr]

Even now the heatsink isn't screwed down really really tightly to the cpu's surface, but it's tight enough not to fall off, and temps seem ok so far - mid 30's to 40's)

why did you bother with the zalman? you prefer looks to performance? for the price you could have been much better off with a scythe ninja, tuniq tower, big typhoon, freezer64pro?

then again there are people still out there that have side windows on thier case and want more show rather than go.

Actually it was down to what was available. I only discovered how good the Ninja was after my order had been accepted - I thought about trying to get it changed, but then when I re-read the reviews the difference was pretty small between them.

As for the LED's and it's appearance... I don't have side windows! But I like the Zalman so far - my cpu is cool AND quiet... the fanmate 2 has allowed me to find a perfect balance.

And it's not too heavy either.

I want to get rid of my zalman 9500, the damn thing is a dust trap! will work well for a month and then it gets clogged with dust behind the fan and subsequently my cpu temps rocket. The fins are far to close together.
looks good but I cant help but feel I should have just got the ninja instead :( It really cant cope with my dual core 170 with anymore than stock vcore. fine with my 146 though, but so is the stock cooler with the single cores.

This is after a few weeks!!

You can see the dust only collects where the fins are very close together, I think this is the major downside of this cooler.

blimey, that's not good. I think I'll be a bit better off though - my antec case exhausts from all the holes at the back, and the front intake holes are covered by a mesh dust filter. (There is a hole at the base of the bezel that would suck air straight from my carpet so I've blocked that off). Having seen that pic though I'll make a point of checking it regularly!

no matter how many case filters I have fitted the dust some how gets through. I make a habit of giving the pc a basting with my air compressor every so often or when I can be asked. pain in the be-hind though.

Yes, dust always finds a way in

And if the machine runs 24/7, well it builds up even more quickly. I do mine about every 3 months
