**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

I'm using the 1.60 atm, although was just gonna update it to 1.9 (i think its 1.90 thats the latest)... but this is just self indulgence, no real need for me to do that

what settings do I use for this mobo to overclock

cpu and async with pci-e?

this mobo is confusing.
More confusing than my dfi expert lol.
I'm using bios 1.9, this has the htt limit removed and more memory dividers.
It's the same as most other boards just the names of the settings are under different names.

CPU freq = HTT
MA Timing = runs ram at 1T or 2T

CPU NB Link speed = HT Mulit
1000mhz=5x
800mhz=4x
600mhz=3x
etc

great post thanks! ;) :)

Increase the voltage though you would have to volt mod the board. It's very easy to do.

im at 2900mhz at 1.375v can't even get stable at 2910mhz using 1.45v so voltage is not the problem. and ran runs at 133 divider so runs around 194mhz. ram is tested to be running fine upto 228mhz.

if overclocking and I have a AGP card do i need to lock the agp or anything?

No, just choose fsb pci-e async thing :p

Cyber-Mav: To check if it's the mobo causing problems, you could try to lower the multiplier and increase fsb. Should stress the mobo a lot :D

what bios is everyone using?
I'm still using P1.20. I got the board the first day it was available in the UK and it shipped with 1.00, which was a bit flakey. P1.20 is a slightly altered 1.20, from...I've forgotten the website.

I'm limited to 250MHz HTT base speed, and it's definitely that. 250, everything fine, 251, machine falls over like it's been on the beer even if I drop the HTT multipliers to 3x and the memory to 2/3rds.

Maybe a later BIOS would fix that, but I don't really care. A 25% o/c on the CPU (with 4% on the memory at 5/6ths) is fine by me.

Exactly what I'm running at, but with a later BIOS 1.60 I think. I haven't tried higher because I'm happy with it at that. And feeling how hot the northbridge and southbridge are, I'd be worried about long term reliability at anything faster. Still, at £45 if it goes kaput it isn't the end of the world.

Has anyone got any tips for achieving 1T with a pair of 1 GB Corsair XMS3500LL Pro sticks on this board? memtest32 is currently copping out on test 8.

I currently have my timings and settings as:

Memory Clock: 200MHZ
Flexibility Option: Disabled
CAS Latency: 2T
TRAS: 1T
TRP: Auto
TRCD: Auto
TRRD: Auto
TRC: Auto
MA Timing: 1T
Burst Length: 8 Beats
Bank Interleaving: Auto
Memory Hole: Disabled

Processor is a 3700+ at stock.

Thanks.

wait for a new version of bios ;)

actually i have the same problem with the xms3200, test 8 failed within the first pass, but passed on every other pass for 1 hour after!

My setup just refuses to post when i try 1t command rate.. so running it at 2t untill its addressed.. bios issue afaik... may be mistaken tho! change urs to 2t and ul probably pass test 8 fine

yep tried that. and still no luck getting over 290htt. must be a board/bios limitation. guess i will have to stick with a crappy 2.9ghz

nowt wrong with 2.9ghz and 290htt.. a nice oc compared to others who barely reach 2.5gig... im perfectly stable at 295htt but ive maxed the voltage available other than trying a volt mod!!

I seem to have lucked out in one way. I'm running Crucial CAS3 PC3200 sticks, nothing special, and they're fine at 1T. I just changed the setting on the off-chance while I was fiddling to get bigger numbers in benchmarks and I was pleasantly surprised when it worked perfectly.

One odd quirk - if I change the memory settings from "by SPD" to the user-defineable setting, my machine won't POST, even if I don't change any settings from what they are set to automatically.

Happens to me also with my 2GB Corsair Value Select kit. No amount of BIOS tweaking solves it.

I enable that deep FIFO in the bios and cand now install the drivers.
I have flashed the bios to version 1.9

when I try and run 3d mark 05 i get this this error message.

IDDIRECT3DDEVICE9:presentfailed:device lost DSDERR-DEvice lost

what does this mean.

I have enabled fast writes in the bios

specs

asrock dual sata 2
venice 3000
1 x gig generic ram
agp 6800 XT
maxtor 40 gig hard drive
antec 350 smartpower psu.

I have selected boot graphics to AGP in the bios.

Thanks for the quick response.

Please help

Sounds like a directX problem, have you installed dx9?

Wow, this thread is huge. I have just got one of these boards and i have a couple of questions. I have some TwinMos BH-5 PC3500 sticks (2x512), is this memory ok to use at stock speeds and to overclock, or am i best buying a different sort of memory.
Also, can i asssume the latest BIOS is best?

nope bh-5 chips are real poor overclockers ;)

tbh I doubt you will achieve much with the low vdimm this board supplies, what you want is an ocz ddr booster to give the ram some real juice and a chance of overclocking real well.
TwinMos tended to have the speed binned bh-5 chips but there still good for tight timings and high frequencies.
