**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

quick update,

I enabled the FIFO and flashed the bios to 1.90

And did a windows reinstall.

currently running the venice at 2.250ghz 9x250 at 1.425v.
Ram At 1 T

while I was at it I unlocked the 4 extra pipes on the 6800 XT so thanks for all your help people.

seems to running great now so after a bit of teething trouble it seems like a nice mobo.

problem with aop 6400 heatsink & fan

i have just brought a nexus aop-6400 fan and heatsink for my as-rock 939Dual-SATA2, but it wont fit, there are 2 screws with the fan but there is nothing to screw into, just the hole on the motherboard. am i doing somthing silly?

The retaining clip on the cooler should fit over the plastic caddy around the cpu socket (has a hook on each side), no screws are needed for installation.

If you need to mount that cooler to the standard K8 backplate that comes with all K8 motherboards, you have a bit of a problem because this motherboard doesn't come with one. As far as I know, it's the only K8 motherboard that doesn't.

You can buy a K8 backplate separately. IIRC, Thermaltake sell one because some of their coolers are too heavy for the plastic backplates on some Gigabyte K8 boards.

you've got me thinkin now, isnt the cpu frame held on by those 4 nylon push in clips? I used an oem cooler which uses the typical k8 mounting clip which fitted straight onto the frame on my sata2, isnt the backplate used for extra support if your using a larger cooler? my dfi mb has a backplate that also helps support my big zalman cooler that runs 2 screws straight through to the backplate, it doesnt use the 4 nylon fixings.

Just worked out how the nexus cooler fits, so it clips on but needs screwing down on both side of the retention frame also. yeh if you get that zalman backplate kit you screw those push pins on to the backplate and then push the plate up through the mb pcb and then you will have the threads to drive a screw through the cooler clip and retention frame on both sides.

PS2_USB_PWR1 Jumper [that one in the top left hand corner next to the ATX power connector]

I accidentally dislodged the jumper cap last night when I was trying to organise my cables etc.
How should it be set? Covering pins 1 & 2 or 2 & 3? [1 being the left hand pin]

-hopefully finishing this build tonight....

[edit] found a nice photo on the net & sorted the jumper now. About to hit the power button now..... :)

hmm, i got a 6800nu agp card. what benefit would enabling deep fifo provide me? i thought it only needs to be used if you have a 6600gt or other agp card that is using a hsi bridge chip.

Great thread, very useful.

As much as I'm enjoying my new CPU setup (AMD165) with this new board, I'm having a frustrating time getting the GFX (6800NU) to run fine. I had initial problems getting the AGP ULI driver installed (I'm on XP64, had the os not recognized issue), but kind of fixed that.

Then came an issue with DX9 games, some of my games ran fine, but others not:- OcUK Forum Thread which is fixed here OCWorkbench Forum ASRock thread. Basically, when the ULI AGP and latest Nvidia drivers are installed, games run at <4fps. Remove one line from the registry for the ULI AGP driver and it's all runs fine.

NOW. Games that ran badly or loaded to a black screen are fine/fast (UT2004, Hitman demo, Condemned, HL2). But graphically intensive games that use HDR+AA (so far just tested CS:S Militia and HL2:Episode 1) run abyssmally. Serious hitching in HL2:Ep1, seems like paging to the GFX card. I could get away with Militia with full details for a run around @20-30 fps on my Barton2500XPM/DFI Infinity previously.

**Also, Sisoft Sandra and CPU-Z can't tell what speed the AGP bus is at. CPU-Z's whole graphics box section is blank and ghosted out and Sisoft Sandra can only report what the board is capable of. Is this normal?**

Specs: Windows64, 1gig Ram, 165Opteron, 6800NU, Audigy1, ASRock939Dual 1.90

HELP!

THe card that I installed was a 6800 XT and without it enabled in the bios the driver would just not install.

enabled it and everything was fine.

I hate to be a lazy sod and ask you guys these questions that i'm sure have appeared so many times before...but..

Will an arctic cooler freezer 64 pro fit on this board without me needing to buy a backplate?

Also, i'm using an AGP card (6800GT) with an nv silencer on it. I was thinking of getting a soundcard, something better than the AC97..would I have any problems getting something like an audigy 2 or x-fi to fit in one of the pci slots? I dont know how long the soundcards are and it looks like it'd be a tight fit...and might obstruct the gpu fan.

Anyone got a setup like that?

Ta :)

Dude my freezer 64 fitted no problem without any other equipment needed, was pretty easy to do too.

ive got a soundcard in the lowermost slot and a gf6 with the nv silencer on..
and neither is blocking the other, the soundcard stops short of the fan on the nv silencer (however i do have a side intake fan that blows cold air directly onto the area pci slot area so that addresses any heat issues!)
