NB - SB Link Speed, keep it at 1000mhz.

Is the SB - NB link speed diffinatly not effected by the htt ?. After all there still multipliers 1x - 5x so are they not multiplying with anything ?. Other guides surgest having SB - NB match CPu - NB for the sakes of not corrupting data especially since the sata2 sits on a pci lane. Im not sure what to set. I want the higher performance but not the data corruption.

I've got it set at 1000mhz and have my cpu at 2.7ghz with no problems.
I've just looked at this thread on ocworkbench forums and I think people are saying that the SB - NB link is locked and not affected by HTT.

has anyone used a thermaltake big typhoon on the dual sata2 board? was wondering if it actually fits on the motherboard without modifications.

gunna get one of these but with m2 out now is the a m2 socket version mainly cause i got my agp card , and is there a expansion out and is it worth it getting it or another board so i can upgrade to pci whenever but be on m2 now?

hmm, no replies. has anyone fitted a heatsink to this board that requires a backplate? this board does not come with a K8 backplate so not sure how heatsinks like the big typhoon or the scythe ninja would mount? i think someone here managed to gat a big typhoon fitted without a backplate but not sure.

Well.. I got caught out with the zalman 9500 cooler. Even the top retention part of mechanism isnt compatable with the two metal doublesided standoffs that come with the zalman for the retention brackets which use pushpins.

Unfortunatly, it doesnt appear easy to buy just backplates but I have found a site to get one from (if a little pricey for abit of plastic) but being a competitor, I cannot say here.

Been reading up on the mobo (PDF manual, etc) as I wait for mine & I have a question/s: If I connect a SATAII HD to the Serial ATA II connector & run it in IDE Mode, I won't need a driver disk, right? & is it better to run it in IDE or SATA mode - performance wise? Same time, my other SATA HD will be connected to the Serial ATA Connector/s which has no such 'mode' options, right? Now for the latter will I still need a driver disk & hit F6 when installing Windows? Its my understanding that if I don't do this Windows will not (& might never) pick-it-up? - hope makes sense  :o

Cheers

Youll need f6 and driver disk if you use sata mode. I used this right away so dont know if the second way will work (but it should). Install the drive and os in ide mode (should not require driver), then once in windows install the jmicron driver and when reseting the system set bios to sata mode and hopefully windows will pick up the drive in sata mode.

ahh i see now on page 61 of this thread there is someone who managed to mod the backplate and fit a big typhoon. guess i will give this a try too.

No driver needed on the two regular SATA ports if set to non-RAID mode, as they will be seen as regular IDE drives. Regarding the SATA2 port, you won't need a driver if set to 'IDE mode', but you will for SATA mode as that uses the AHCI standard (which in theory should give better performance than IDE mode). I also don't think extra features such as NCQ can be used if you ran in IDE mode, but don't quote me on that.

Cheers m8 ;) Think I'll run the SATAII HD on the Serial ATA II connector in SATA mode & whack on the drivers - since thats what i've been doing anyway (& would like to enjoy NCQ, etc). My main issue was with the SATA HD but I think you've clarified that, i.e. nonRAID mode = no need for drivers/F6

hmmm..the bios reset itself when the system repeatedly failed to boot with OC settings.
Now no matter what I try I cannot set the boot order in the bios to include my SataII drive. I can see it in the bios but the only way I can get it to boot is by pressing f11 and selecting that drive to boot with.
Was working fine before. Any ideas??

excellent. i can confirm that the big typhoon fits this board fine. just need to cut a section out of the foam covering the surface mount capacitors on the back of the board. easy. :D

Hi guys I am currently putting this motherboard into a Antec Sanata II and as this is my first real PC build I have ran into some problems, I have the motherboard in the case, power connected, CPU etc in, but I am not stuck at the front panel connections

Its the 9 pin PANEL 1 and I am trying to connect the power, reset, hdd led etc can anyone tell me how these go? I have tried to look in the manual but the book says the power led is a 2 pin but its 3 pin coming from the front panel :(

Do what I did, pair of wire cutters, snipped the power led cable into two stuck both bits on to the right pins.

interesting idea, could you tell me exactly what wires go where? i am totally stuck with what way they plug in, does the label face towards the bottom of the case or back up towards the cpu etc? can I do any damage if they are round the wrong way?

edit: I have just plug it all in went to fire it up and got nothing at all, I have checked all the connections look fine nothing amiss, is there something stupid I might be missing? when I press power the fans make a small move but nothing major, cant see any lights or anything

Text on the plug facing upwards, it should only have two wires going into it despite having 3 holes, one wire on the 1st and 3rd hole, just split down the middle, I've plugged them in the wrong way round loads of times, never caused any problems.

(turn your power plug round too, see if that'll fire it up)
