**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

Wicked thanks m8

Gonna see what this baby can do now ;)

edit: sry do you have your CPU-NB link @ 1000hz??? and the other at 600hz for over clocking??

Or just set to auto?

I ran into a few random reboots recently so I dropped my bus speed from 300 to 288 and dropped the volts to 1.375. Running a 144 at 2.6GHz ram at 235MHz (Crucial 3200 running Cas3).

I just used SiSoft Sandra to check my bus speeds and I got a bit of a shock, my HT is running at 1152 (2x 2304MHz)!

Now its clear my settings aren't optimal as my CPU is over worked and therefore cutting it short of its highest clock figure, the question is what should I run? 133 divider, 600HT, 310-320 FSB? I think I left my HT on auto at the moment.
I am amazed that your HTT links are OK at 1152MHz. They are notorious for causing instability when running at all over spec, let alone 11.52% over spec.

Nice extra on the memory, if it's just standard Crucial. Mine won't go that far.

The "FSB" speed has no effect on performance above the standard 200MHz. For example, 9x300 would give you exactly the same performance as 10x270 (if you were able to keep the memory at the same speed with both 270 and 300 "FSB" speed).

I don't see what you mean by "Now its clear my settings aren't optimal as my CPU is over worked and therefore cutting it short of its highest clock figure,"

I'm missing something, so would you explain it to me?

i.e I can only push it to ~2.6GHz on those settings (HT at 1157).

I'm wondering if my voltage is the limiting factor though, I can adjust my HT lower to 600 and yet the CPU wont really boot into Windows past 2.7GHz.

Oddly that high HT (auto in bios) figure is more stable and runs on LESS volts then me manually setting 600 HT.

Any word on whether a 7950 GX2 will work with this board? I saw an article somewhere in which someone got two cards working in SLI using a riser card from the PCI-E slot. The GX2 would be a lot tidier though.

Just interested in terms of concept as I'm already saving for a widscreen TFT. Can't see myself needing a new graphics card any time soon.

Hmmmm!

Right I'm now running my Opty 144 @ 1.4v, 9X289 (2.6GHz) 1160 HT (a blistering 2320MHz HyperTransport) and a 166 divider (233MHz/466MHz DDR Cas3). Not to be sniffed at!

Yet still my 3Dmark05 score wont budge past 5140. Does the AGP limit my pc THAT much? Or is it the AGP hardware and/or driver of the ASRock board?

I could achieve the same score with a 133 divider (much less memory bandwidth) and 2.5GHz.

Maybe your at the upper limit of your video card. They don't always get faster as the CPU speed increases, they do have an upper limit.

Its a 6800 Ultra, I'd be leaning towards there being a limitation of the AGP on the board but of course might be wrong.

Anyone else running a similar card, perhaps a GT, who can compare results?

3DMark05 is not that sensitive to CPU scaling, as it's primarily a video card limited benchmark. I found my scores going from an NForce 2 and XP2500+ to this board and an A64 3000+ actually went down with both using an AGP 6600GT. XP2500+3DMark01 is much more sensitive to CPU overclocks and you will find you get a big difference in score when overclocking the CPU.

5.0-5.5k is about right for a 6800 Ultra at stock in 3DMark05.

Edit: I ran an PCI-E 6800GT overclocked past ultra speeds for a while with this board. Think I got something in the region of about 5300 to 5400 in 3Dmark05 with that.

My AGP GT @ 400 core 1100 mem gets 5750 in 3d05 cpu running @ 2.5 atm

Hi,

got a volt metre to findout if my volt mod actually worked, anyone know where I can get a reading from to confirm this? Or have a link to somewhere that explains how to get the reading?

I'm not a sparky but I know my way round this bord :)

Any help or advice would be great ;)

I'm getting 1.564v (multimeter) with the vid4 bridged (1.150v bios set) cpuz still reports 1.150v

:)

Hi Lewis

Do I just earth the black and put the red on that point as per link to get my reading from the volt metre???

Sorry I'm no sparky

thanks mate!!

yes, anywhere on the case will do

I normally touch it on a mobo screw

Coolio

Just done it and it's on 1.55 :D speedfan says 1.60 either way it has worked!!

Proud of myself, and proud that I didn't **** my board in the process...lol

My chips running @ 32-34 idle is that a good temp to be at?

cheers ;)

Dual Core Options

I am wanting to get some cheap dual core goodness for my ASRock, ideally I want to overclock to 2.7+ (to match my current single core). My options would seem to be:

X2 3800 - Nice and cheap at the moment but I believe I'd have to get real lucky to hit 2.7 GHz.

Opteron 170 - Would seem the safe bet, but I am having trouble finding a good one at a sensible price.

Opteron 165 - Plenty available but the x9 multiplier worries me. I am running the latest BIOS (v2.2) which removes the FSB cap but I am struggling to find many people clocking around/above 300 on this board.

I will be running on air and don't want to volt mod. What should I do?

Just upgraded my two 120mm Antec fans to AcoustiFans, changed the stock AMD cooler for an Artic Cooler Freezer 64 Pro and threw and Artic Cooler Rev5 on my 6800Ultra.

Temps have dropped massively and even in this shocking heat (34c outside) I can sit stable Opty [email protected] 1.42v, Crucial 3200 @248MHz and 2400MHz Hyper Transport. 37'c idle.

I had my Asrock for 2 months now & haven't had time to play with the OC settings.

I just tried to OC it but it won't lem me change the CPU frequency. It's locked at 200 MHZ So is the PCI @100MHZ

Bios 2.20

CPU 3700+ San Diego (11x 200Mhz)

Is my CPU locked ?
