**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

I've not overclocked in a long time so need some help please. So far I have my 4000+ up to 2.64GHz (I know it's only a small OC but it's a start) and under 100% load temps don't get higher than 47.

Running Prime95 now and it fails the first test in the blend test (Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length).

I set another test going that stresses the memory less and so far so good as it's completed 10 tests. What can i change to in the bios to stop it failing the test.

4000+
2x512MB PC4000 Crucial Ballistix

Core Speed 2.64GHz
CPU Freq 220
Mem Clock 166
CPU - NB Link Speed 800

All the memory timings are set to auto.

Any help apreciated.
A quick update. I am now up to 2.8GHz and it's playing games fine and temps have got no higher than 49 under sustained load. It's still failing Prime95 though.

have you done the volt mod, it might just need more than 1.45.
No I haven't. It could be lack of volts I suppose but it seems strange that it will do 2.6 @ 1.35V with a 289 FSB but won't do 2.7 @ 1.4V (max I can set) with a 300 FSB.

Right. my 4000+ is now up to 3GHz (12x250) and temps under full load max out at 50.

According to CPU-Z my Ballistix memory is only running at 200MHz although I think it can do more more than that.
CAS Latency 2.5
RAS to CAS Delay 3
RAS Precharge 3
Cycle Time (Tras) 7
Bank Cycle Time (Trc) 10
Command Rate 2T
DRAM idle Timer 16

Any guidance on where to go next would be great. Prime95 fails the two tests which test lots of memory, but the other test has been going strong for over an hour.

I think I may have a volt issue after all. I have set the core to 1.4V in BIOS but it seems to fluctuate rather a lot. MBM5 reports an average of 1.4V but with a minimum of 1.34V and a maximum of 1.47V. I guess a low dip when running at a higher clock could be the problem.

I have disabled Cool 'n' Quiet and I am running on a fairly reasonable 500W PSU. Perhaps it is time to do that volt mod?

The fluctuation is fairly normal for this board.

Yes, I have now read elsewhere that it is down to the conversion from the sensor chip. The actual real voltage is stable.

I have had to drop my overclock down further as I was still getting instability when running above 270 HTT.

In desperation I did the volt mod on my board and even pumping 1.5v through the 165 won't make it stable any higher than 2.43GHz. So either I have got the worst CCBBE in existence or my mobo is FSB limited. :(

I am running on the latest official 2.20 BIOS. Is there any merit in trying any others, OCWBETA1, OCWBETA2, OCWBETA8, etc?

Im considering this motherboard so that I can use my existing AGP card, does the board have any issues with four 512mb sticks?

I currently have two Corsair CMX512-3200XLPRO sticks and I can either buy a second pair or look to buy just a 2GB kit.

What do you guys recommend?

I already have a x2 4400+ 2mb 939

Thanks

I've got 4 x 512mb Kingston Value DDR-400 running with the Asrock board in my second PC no problem - they are all the same model, though each set of two were bought seperately.

looking at this board for an intermitant upgrade to my ageing system. what I want to know is will this board except pc2700 ddr ram. I am not going to overclock or anything. Just want to upgrade cpu and motherboard for the time being. I currently have:

Athlon 2800+ (not 64)
1 IDE hard drive
2 IDE CD drives
1gig PC2700 crucial DDR333.
Audigy 4
6800nu (12pipes)
Would I notice much of a performance difference in the meantime (before updating the other componants over time)

Any Info would help

yup, the board will run pc2700 ram. you should notice a nice jump in processing performance.

ok, i've come to put this in and tried to put in my XP-90 and it needs a 'stock' backplate to fit the k8 chips :( - except this board doesn't have one

so how have other ppl installed this on their board then as i have seen it done....

Had to use the backplate off my old mobo (A8V Deluxe). Need to find another one becuase that board is going to another machine after I get a new CPU :(

Hey, I intend to get this board, along with a AM2 cpu (got the am2cpu board from usa), 2gb of geil ddr2 800mhz and a sata2 maxtor hdd.

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what comes in the motherboard box? do you get sata2 cables to connect the hdd to the mobo? what about IDE and a floppy cable? Are they standard IDE cables or are they round ones which look nicer?

Many thanks

You'd have probably been better off with a normal AM2 board, the addon card restricts you to only using 2 sticks of memory and a stock sized heatsink.

Why does it restrict you to two memory slots? The AM2CPU baord as 4 on it and after reading reviews i've not heard anyone say this. And as for the stock fan - thats fine with me - i won't be overclocking.

My mistake, sorry, I was sure the one I'd seen only had two slots.
