With an Opteron 144 you'll be seeing 274 x 9 as your maximum overclock using the stock bios. That will be 2466Mhz which is a decent overclock. The voltage needed wil vary from chip to chip. My 144 would only run at that speed with 1.5v.

AGP performance is spot on with my X800. Dunno what others are doing wrong !

X800 12 pipelines 515/520
Aquamark - 70,000
3Dmark 01 - 27,000
3Dmark 03 - 10800
3Dmark 05 - 4800
same here running my opteron 144 at 270x9 at 1.375v and running my agp 6800GS with no problems actually getting better performanc ethan i did on my old P4C800 Delux rig

i already have a geil value 2x512MB dual channel kit- im thinking of adding another...

does this board work ok with all 4 slots filled?

TG

I have seen posts with people using all 4 slots, at 2T of course.

Hmmmmm....

Got rig up and running now.

[email protected] at the mo.
X800 XT PE AGP@ just over stock.

Getting around 13500 in 3Dmark 03.

Not much higher than when I had my P4 3.0 @ around 3.5.

I would have thought an overclocked opty would have annihilated that in gaming or am I wrong?

Perhaps the GPU is not scaling well at these sort of speeds?

Whats odd is that the opty kills the P4 in the CPU score, but actual FPS is about the same.......

Have to say I am still very happy with the setup and have had no probs with the mobo at all. :)

They won't keep scaling upwards. There will be a wall at some point, looks like your at it. How does it compare with the other 850's on the 3Dmark 'ORB' ?

I wish I knew :(

I've now got my Opty 146 @ 2.74Ghz (haven't tried the OCW BIOSes yet) and my Geforce 6800 clocked to the same speed I had on my last board, I'm still only getting 4170 3dMark05 whereas I got 4500 on my old setup (Barton @ 2.2Ghz, NF7).

Have you tried running some games, or running any timedemos to see if there is an improvement at all. if you are getting better performance in games surely thats all that matters ?

Hey guys, recently got this board, everything works fine, except i cant get the latest bios from the asrock.com website, i just get a corrupt .zip, and i have 3gb of ram installed, but its only picking up 2gb, the only differences between the ram is that one stick is corsair 3200xms version 1.2, and the other 2 sticks are version 1.5...

i am being stupid

Hey chaps

sorry i am being a bit thick tonight, i have this board with 2 sata hdds running in raid, i have added an old ide hardrive that i want to format and put some info on, thing is i cam having difficulty putting the right setting in the bios. I have bios 1.5. it either picks up the raid hdds fine but not the ide or it picks up the ide (which has xp installed but i want to format) but not the raid drives............it must be simple surely!

any help much appreciated.

cheers

Whats the maximum I can hope for with an Opteron 146? Using the stock BIOS and voltages etc.

Stock bios only goes to about 274, so max would be 2.74ghz or there abouts.

Changing bios (and doing volt mod) is a doddle though.

With volt mod i'm getting almost 1.6v (measured with voltmeter) so I decided not to bother with the mod I linked to with the resistor. :)

Does the OCW BIOS 1 support the Opterons though? I didn't want to flash to find it wouldn't boot because of an unsupported CPU!!

whilst this is true it's bloody annoying that it's benching lower than my old slower setup :(

While I'm getting a lower 3DMark05 Score than my old Nforce2 based system, generally games are running a lot better. The stuttering in HL2 is almost completely irradicated (I suspect that's the extra GB of RAM). Games that used to crash to desktop regularly, like HL2, Far Cry, Rome: Total War and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines will now let me play for hours without a glitch (for some reason I only had a problem with DirectX, never OpenGL)

Yes, the 3DMark05 score is lower but I've not had to drop the settings below what I was using before in any games to get them to run acceptably. Games that tended to stretch the CPU, like R:TW with many units or HL2 when it's throwing stuff around, run a lot better. In real terms what's a few 3dMarks?

Having said that, if you do find a solution I'd like to hear about it. I should mention I've noticed that 3dMark05 scores are very 'driver sensitive'. I'm running 82.12 betas (I think) at the moment. Different drivers on the old system got me anything from about 3100 to 3600. Taken in that context 100 odd points doesn't seem like such a loss.

I think the whole 3DMark thing is really one big ploy to try to make people upgrade their graphics card before it's really necessary. My card will handle just about any game at a decent resolution and high detail, as long as I don't ramp up AA. Bang in 3DMark06 and cue slideshow-o-vision. Suddenly I'm scouring ebay, hoping someone's made a typo in their 7800GT or GTX listing. Ahh well - at least that option's there now I've got a PCI-E slot...

Edit: The Anandtech review indicated that this ASRock board is better tuned to PCI-E performance than AGP, when compared to the ULi reference board. Maybe that's why some of us are having a minor dip in performance with AGP cards?

Do the OCW bioses support the 165? Thats the only thing holding me back from flashing it atm. mine does 2466 at 1.35 prime stable.

Whether it runs 1T or not is nothing to do with the board, mine is ok at 1T. Some recent Venice cores dont like 1T at all.

Glad u got it going wunkley, I'd like u to check something if you might. Set your ram to 1T and then when u get into windows press print screen and then load mspaint and paste. Whenever I do this I get instant crash in 1T even though sandra memory benchmarks will run fine!

My conclusion with this board is its OK, and good value for £49 but its just not an overclockers board.

The reasons why (this is with an X2 CPU)

-Cant run 1T even with stock (with any combination of memory)

-Cant run 4 dimms even at stock 200mhz

-Cant boot above 230mhz fsb even with dividers and 1 dimm

-CPU Voltage limited to 1.35v with X2 (basically STOCK voltage)

-Memory voltage is 1.6v auto +4% high - ithis is again nsufficient.

Overall im slightly dissapointed but then for £50 its still good value.
