**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

Don't 'play' with these mods
Go to the links already supplied in this thread and do your research properly. I think the volt-mod I used allows me to set any vcore up to 1.55 volts but check the convertion table and fully study the instructions before you do some damage

the vid3 mod imho is the best one

thew vid4 mod works as well but you need to set the bios vcore at 1.15 so it gets 1.55 in reality

however the bios sometimes thinks that 1.15v is undervolting and refuses to boot - it happened intermittantly with me (ocwbeta2 bios) but in the end i removed the conductive paint and did the vid3 mod - i set 1.35v in the bios and it gives me 1.55v in reality - solid as a rock since this :)

one tip though is to make sure you layer enough conductive paint on - dry it in between with hairdryer - too little can result in the mod working for a while then failing

its easier just to use a soldering iron to bridge the contacts. i did it easy, but then decicide i wanted more voltage, so soldered a 10k VR to c600 and c602 on the ends of those tiny tiny resistors/capacitors :D

Which is the best vcore mod to do? Is it the resistor mod or the conductive paint one? Which one have people had more success with? As much feed back as possible please, as I want to do one of them but not sure which one.

Cheers

the best is the resistor method, 10k gives you +.3v. (inexperienced solderers should NOT do this one)
the easiest is the bridge those 2 contacts method, which gives you +.2v. (n00bs can use conductive paint, cool 1337 people can solder them)

+.2v is plenty btw

Arrrrghh!

Please help, I installed the board today, managed to install Windows etc etc. I had BIOS v P 1.50, and for some reason it would not let me adjust the CPU FSB in the BIOS. I decided to flash it with a newer version, I did this in Windows, it did it, asked to reboot and then the system would not POST. If i press the power button the system will power up, but no POST or any display at all.

I've turned it on and off a lot of times, still no joy....

What options do I have? Have sent an email to Asrock to ask about getting a new BIOS, but that may take weeks.

Its a PITA that it wont even POST so I could try and do a hot flash. Is the BIOS completely borked or would it be something else? As I said, I have installed everything and XP was running fine until the flash.

BTW I did try a DOS based flash via floppy but it would bring up errors when I typed in "FLASH" to start it off.

HELP!

PS I am finding this slightly funny, but its really iritating too!

:)

Start by clearing the bios using the jumper on the motherboard.

Whle the jumper is in the 'clear' position turn the PC on. You should get a message about inserting something into a boot device. This is as intended and I'm asking you to do this as a test.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, problem is that I am at work, about the only way I can get access to the net, didnt have time to rebuild the old pc and reinstall Windows.

I have cleared the CMOS but still no joy, I gave up after 30 mins. When I get home tomorrow I will have another play around. I am suspecting that it would at least get to a POST screen and then give an error or something, but there is nothing, the HD whirs for a bit, but no single beep or anything else.

Do you think its worth reseating everything? Cables were fine obviously as I had booted into windows.

You could try reseating stuff if you want too.

There was a user on here before who had a similar problem after flashing the bios. He had to spend hours restarting the PC to get it to post. Maybe you another lucky punter.

If your in the UK and want to post me your bios chip I will flash it and test it with the bios of your choice. Let me know.

I must have tried restarting it around 30 times, still the same everytime. Is it usual that it wont even POST and give an error beep/message?

Thanks for the offer, whereabouts are you? I can post it off first class tomorrow, but i want to do some more checks when i get home to doubley make sure its nothing else. Will try the CMOS again as suggested, its just such a pain as it was working OK otherwise (although why I couldnt change CPU FSB is a mystery). Can I email you as obviously when I get home I wont be able to get online after I've checked it.

Thanks again for the offer :)

you probably couldnt change the fsb because you didnt know you had to just type the number you wanted when it was highlighted. none of that press enter or pg up/dn to change it ;)

ps mine did this after a bios flash. do the following: place jumper on clr cmos and start machine, it should post but not boot. put jumper in normal position and try it, if no go then remove all dimms and place one stick in the slot nearest cpu, try to boot again, it should come alive. if not repeat the jumper step (but leaving 1 stick of ram in) and try again.

if it dont work then, then send your bios chip to ns400r, althought chances are it'll work fine in his, since these boards love to not start up on you quite often, especially after bios flashes/bios changes and sometimes restarts. fine with shutdown and cold boots tho.

You know, once I got into work tonight, I read that you just had to use + & - or type in the number you want. Wouldnt of bloomin flashed it if that had worked....

Well I am going to try all of your suggestions when I get home in a couple of hours, I really hope it works and it will at least do something :(

Am printing this out to take with me :D

Just ordered this from OcUK now i have posted a Kind of same question elsewhere but perhaps someone on this thread will instantly know this answer.

This is what i have ordered:

Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-018-SA)

Will the computer in sig, (im using XP Pro) pick up the correct capacity and shoudl i plug it into the SATA II port or the other SATA I port, my raptor 74GB is on one of the SATA i sockets, just unsure which way to connect this up.

Help please :)

If you are using XP with service pack 1 or 2 it should pick up the full capacity of the hard drive. I would plug it into the SATA-II port as it will allow a faster speed in theory. Just make sure all your settings in the bios are correct too, e.g. SATA2 enabled etc.
