The ASUS Rampage V Extreme Thread

Hi, I'm having issues with my RVE build. I am SLI'ing 980 Strix cards, They are in slots 1 and slots 4 which will give me x16/x16. When the 4th slot is used the 980 Strix completely covers the PCIE_X1_1 slot so I cant plug up my Asus Xonar Essence STX II.

I could move the 2nd Strix to slot 2 which would give me x16/x8 but its extremely tight, the top card would overheat I imagine.

What am I to do ?

*Noob passing through*

I have connected the 24 pin. It is just the 8 pin one I am having trouble with. The only lead that seems to fit (corsair AX1200i) has a split on the end so it only has 6 going into an 8 on the psu. And I presume I don't need a four pin as there is not one.

I hope this made some kind of sense. This is the first time I have built a pc, been fine till this little problem.

Yes it is a PSI-E cable, I am gonna presume now that it is supposed to be the CPU one. I have two CPU leads but they do not seem to fit.

I bought the PSU off ebay, it was an ex display one that had not been used. I done checks to make sure I had all the leads and I did not notice any missing.

I did not realise the two CPU leads can split into four pin connections. Even after I split them they do not both fit in the 8 pin. One fits the 8 pin but only covering 4 pins and the other fits the 4 pin. So do you still think I am missing some leads here?

Thanks

So it does not matter if the shapes do not correspond? I am sure I could force them in there but I thought the shapes had to match up for a reason.

Both leads are symmetrical but the 8 pin on the board is not.

Well i imagine if it fits first time the opposite way round, then maybe it is just the clip that is the wrong way round? I didn't have any issue like this because my CPU Power cable was just an 8-pin.

You might have a faulty board, or it could be the wrong 4+4 for your PSU.

I just had a look at the manual and it shows you can put just a four pin in the 8 pin. So as long as I have one of these options plugged in that will be fine? I could put four in the 8 and four in the 4 but the manual does say 'or'. I suppose I should have checked the manual first but I still would have liked to make sure.

Thanks

Iv got all 8 in with one lead. It did not require much pressure. I just thought that the shapes had to match but it is definitely the right lead. I know I am not missing any because there is supposed to be 19 leads in total which I have.

Thank you for your time. I am sure I will be back here when I get to the Bios bit! Still waiting for my gpu though so can't do much more.
