The ASUS Rampage V Extreme Thread

Here is the problem
Seems my no 1 bios is borked - updated to 802, and seemed to be ok, but as I was trying to set up the bios the machine would just shut down.
I have never seen this before. I checked/changed Psu/memtest runs on individual sticks then dual sticks etc, and could not identify the problem.
Bios 2 on 603 bios seems to work ok. Real hassle to swap the board out - as I would have to drain loop etc, etc.

Have you tried to flash 602 into bios 1? If that doesn't work then this:

Have you tried copying bios 2 to bios 1, this may get you up and running again on bios 1, worth a try.

I'd certainly give that a give that a go.

So copy bios 2 to usb stick and then flash bios 1 - is that what you mean?
Alternatively do I chance flashing the working bios to latest 802?

Thanks for your help

Tried switching to the dodgy bios this morning for another attempt - would not even load the bios screen before the machine shut down - any ideas, or deffo borked? :(

Not with the usb stick.

Go back into BIOS 2, so running 603 then:

Tool Menu.
BIOS Flashback
Copy BIOS2 to BIOS 1
You should then have a working BIOS 1 again.
Then flash another bios on top of 603 if you want to.

I think my board is faulty. As soon as i up the memory speed from 2133mhz and start to tune timings i get no display and Q error codes of 96, 99. If i use the safe bios switch on the board then i get a A2 q code with no display, not even a bios screen. Tried different 290X cards in the primary slot.

Bios woes still, Grrrrrrr

After much Faffing about, and with the helpful suggestions above - I managed to copy the working 603 bios from bios 2 to 1, but.......

The machine went mental and went into a reboot loop every time it reached 33 so I pressed the bios reset button whilst it was doing this, and I eventually managed to get bios 1 working, or so I thought, but the random shutdown started happening again. This happens both while in the bios, and if I manage to boot to windows. So I thought what the hell I will try to get the latest 802 bios on chip 1 via bios flashback using the button on the back of the machine.
Got it on, set the bios up, and seemed ok - for a short while, then the same issues started all over again.

I am out of ideas on this one guys - all I can think now is that bios chip 1(main bios chip) is borked:(

seems the only real way of fixing this is to replace the board - a nightmare of work, unless anybody has any bright ideas?

Is it better to get the ST or STX version of the ASUS Xonar for the RVE?

Would the ST fit in the middle black slot for example or is it best to get the PCIe and use the bottom slot, thus taking some bandwidth away from the middle card?

Don't take this the wrong way, but when you copied bios 2 to bios 1, did you make sure the bios LED's had stopped flashing, as this procedure can take a few minutes. I would be inclined to use bios 2 for the time being, make sure everything is working ok for a few days, then all being well, copy bios 2 to 1 again, there should be no problems then, if there is, then the bios 1 chip is corrupt.

To add to the above i am currently waiting for an RMA, i have a dead bios chip! Just displays 00, i have tried to copy from 1>2 and usb flasback but it does not work still 00 and on my working bios i get frequent 96 codes and also can reboot itself when it finally gets in windows, 8 is ok but win7 only boots straight in 25% of the time and this can be at stock :(
When i put a moderate OC on it can work fine, i turn it off and leave for an hour and reboot it will more than likely display q 96 and i have to clear cmos.
Word of warning too, before the bios chip died it decided to put 1.85v into my chip, i set it too 1.34v!! Then it died, luckily i caught it quick and shut down and thank god my chip appears to be ok. It was defo not a sensor issue by the way the computer/bios was responding.

No was vcore and i presume the bios was failing, it just would not boot clr cmos etc and when i finally got in it was like everything was in slow motion and i checked settings and on the left of vcore was 1.85v in red!! A guy on OCN had this on a deluxe, his board and cpu died! After this on that bios it just shows 00, i contacted Asus and they told me i should be running my board and cpu at defaults or RMA the board, still awaiting my number from OCUK

Must admit I am having doubts about having gone the Asus route, and beginning to think should have gone for the Gigabyte OC Force, but I suppose I should not panic. Duff boards do happen sometime - it is just aggravating.

Still having woes with my bios issues listed in above posts, but I seem to have got bios 2 stable now(famous last words) whereas earlier today both bioses stared to play up. I will just see if I can run the system all at stock for2-3 days and see if it remains stable.

I do have another problem as well - machine will not resume from sleep mode on windows 8.1 - this was not a problem on my previous board, any ideas on that one please.

Update:
Board is going back - it is a duff one unfortunately.

I'm having my own share of problems with this board. Tried multiple 290X/290P cards but no matter what the board seems to misbehave as soon as i have a gpu in the first pci-e slot. The system will either freeze, or the driver will hang when installing. I notice with a gpu in slot one sometimes the pc will not restart or shut down either. Something is amiss, but I'm not really sure what. I also find i sometimes get driver stopped responding errors before I've ever installed any gpu drivers in slot one. I should add, i can use any other pci-e slot without issue and can install drivers with those slots occupied without issue.
