The ASUS Rampage V Extreme Thread

Hey guys, been looking to upgrade for some time now and retire my X58 build.

Got to say even though I know how to build a computer, I have no idea how to overclock with the new uefi bios's so may need to take a longer in depth look at this thread and if I need anything further clarifying then I'll post my noobish questions here. So apologizing well in advance.

I've still got decide on my GPU upgrade, debating on two Titan X's or two of the 980ti's if they prove to be worth it. That idea is still playing in my head tbh so suggestions would be appreciated. But for the moment I'll stick with my two dinosaur 590's

Long term goal is to have this build with a decent overclock, nothing barmy, aesthetically pleasing to look at and last as long as my x58 build really with only minor changes in between a complete overhaul. Gone are the days of a new componant every 4-6 months. Too much real life bills and stuff.

BTW any idea on the new NVEM SSD's and their running state on this particular board? Or just keep my current storage setup. I know its only on pre order so likelyhood testing and reviews are very few and far between.

I'll leave with a pic of stuff I've just got this weekend. I might post a build log or something down the line but I'm pretty bad taking pictures in general.

hey guys, so almost at the point of ordering my Asus rampage V and 5930k I'm still torn on memory.

Considering a couple of sets .

Are these good with the Rampage V? not formerly listed under the approved section :

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-185-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=2557

Or
the Kingston 3000mhz

Any others you can recommend that will run flawlessly with this board?

I would suggest/go with these:-

On TWO this week as well - a great price. I am using the same kit except the 3200 with zero problems, and good performance.

Hope this helps

Kingston 3000mhz Predators are very strong. I have been benching with these for many many WR. 3100 C12 easy. With TWCL 10

A couple of fellow overclockers have had great overclocking from Kingston C13 2666mhz sticks the tighter binned sticks opened up to 3000+ and given voltage a real winner apparently. Able to run great timings very stable.

I will hopefully try these tomorrow to see if what they are telling me is true.

having a real problem here guys.
I basically had a striped raid setup on my old machine.
I've pluged the 2xmx100 into ports 1 and 2 on the intel. In the intel raid manager it will not allow me to create a raid.
It shows two drives.
1) Non-raid disk.
2) Memeber disc 0.
I've tried to reset the disk to non raid disc, tried deleting raid volume. And even tried killdisk to format the drives. Will only let me format one of them...

Here's a pic of the problem I'm having windows won't even let me install on one of the disks :(

Have any of you guys had experience with ASUS' RMA? I got my Rampage earlier this week from OcUK and it all works fine apart from the LCD screen on the OC panel is faulty and doesn't show the first number of the temp. It's not a game changer but it messes with my mild OCD no end.

OcUK can only accept the RMA if i return the whole board which at the moment I'm slightly loathed to do because I've literally just finished putting the whole thing under water with my Titan. They said contact ASUS (which I have done) and see if they'll replace the screen on it's own and if not RMA the board to OcUK.

I've seen mixed reviews on ASUS' RMA service but slightly better reviews on their mobo RMA service. Anyone had a similar issue or good/bad experiences of their service?

TIA

I RMA'd my first board via another site. They sent it to ASUS and it took about 2 weeks and I got a new board. You will have to return the whole package though.

Hey guys, i'm all up and running, but had to install windows on another 7200 rpm sata. I cannot for the life of me get windows to install on my mx100 drives, i have AHCI mode set.
Windows installer lets me format them, and delete the partition and set a new one but it says
"we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the setup log files"?

Planning to get a RVE and a 5930k in the next week or so, wanting to get 32GB RAM. Any suggestions?

Not sure on what speed to go for but have budgeted roughly £300 for the RAM. PC will be used for gaming & streaming, maybe with video rendering at some point in the future. Is 32GB overkill and I should just get 16GB (wondering if 8 sticks in the future will reduce OC by much)

Personally I would go with 16Gb of say 2666 speed ram for now as you can always add more later if needed, but you should not need to. If you populate all 8 slots then the imc will be under more strain as far as overclocking goes, so it could limit overclock. Just my personal view. As for the ram itself the Kingston ram is doing well I believe for oc, or maybe Gskill.

Is 850w enough power for an overclockers 5960x and a 980 gtx? Just had my 980 puff up in smoke!

A High quality 850W psu would be plenty powerful enough for a 5960X and a 980. Ok I am running a 1000W, but am considering going sli - so need the extra headroom in case. What happened to your 980?

Was playing the witcher 3. Screen went black and machine rebooted. Next saw some smoke had the case open. Came from the graphics card.

Just gone to Maplin to buy a 850w gold corsair psu and 960(thanks to the no quibble 30 day return policy will return the gpu).

New bios out on the Asus website guys.

1502 - Adds support for 16gb DDR 4 Memory Modules.

Just upgraded mine from the previous release without any issues.

Early doors my end regarding stability but from what I have read it seems to be a big improvement on the last.
