The ASUS Rampage V Extreme Thread

wow you guys have had some problems with this board, gives me doubts about buying one. May just have to go with the new MSI Godlike and hope the OC'ing is decent on it, its a shame though was really liking the Rampage Board.

Have not had any problems with mine at all - touch wood. Lol. I think they are excellent boards if you really want to get the best out of your overclocking experience - I would deffo recommend the Rampage extreme.

Also bear in mind any new platform takes a while to settle, and bios releases get better etc. Take a punt with the Rampage - if you do get problems you can always return it if need be.

That's very true I may still have to give it a go then, I was going to go for a 5930K 2x Gigabyte G1 980Ti's and maybe some Gskill or Dominator ram depending on colour scheme so wanted a board that could handle some serious clocking from what ive seen some people get here it does that job well

My goodies are coming tomorrow, should this be a good setup:

8pack recommends these boards as well - what more needs to be said?

That is going to be one hell of an x99 intro - enjoy, and let us know how it goes. :)

Hi guys just in the process of building my x99 build. Hit a snag though. My titan x won't fit in the first pci 3 slot as the back plate clashes with the output panel. Am I ok to place my titan x in the second slot? Don't want to fill my loop only to discover it won't work and that I need to take my backplate off

All done and working a treat. Bit of a sod to get Windows onto the PCI-E drive but got there in the end. Just using the easy o/c at the moment but getting a 22% o/c so happy with that. Tried o/c the GFX cards with afterburner but the bloody thing wont start automatically with windows no matter what I try with the scheduler etc, so uninstalled as my son logged on in the middle of the night to play GTA V and of course with afterburner not starting for some reason it had put the fans on fixed speed, so as you can guess the cards overheated, so back to stock on them for a while anyway :)

Overall very impressed with the board/chip/gfx combo.

Great - enjoy your new beast !!!

Can anyone help with my current problem. My board is only showing up 12 out of 16gb RAM. I updated the bios to 1502 and the system wouldn't post. I cleared cmos and it eventually posted by then it wouldn't restart either via windows restart or hard reset so I started on the RAM. It posted in slots a1 and b1 but it failed to boot on c1. I then did the memtest and it booted and would also restart perfectly fine.

Now the issue is I can get it working fine but I've isolated dimm slot c1 as the issue, it refuses to recognise the RAM in the slot and shows 12gb of memory. Cpu-z recognises 4 sticks but shows 12gb too. The bios just fails to recognise slot c1 as having a stick in it.

I'll have to drain the system and check the cpu (I bought the cpu, waterblock and board in a bundle from OCUK so haven't had the cpu out yet so it's possible it has a bent pin from when it was assembled) though I have a sneaking suspicion that I may have been sold a previously RMA'd board as I have already had to get the oc panel replaced.

Also I reverted the bios to the 14xx version and that didn't work either, I hope I don't have to RMA it as it'll be the third RMA on my last two boards from OCUK :/

Edit: the RAM is the 3000mhz ripjaw. I'm on my phone so not checked the link for it on the site but think it's on offer for £169.99 at the moment

Have you tried inspecting slot c1 with a magnifying glass - may be a hair or something shorting it out? Try re seating the cpu as the block may be too tight - often causes ram slots to malfunction, whilst you are ther obviously check cpu socket for bent pins etc. Other than that cant think of anything else at the moment.

Yeah I'll try that tonight or probably tomorrow dependent on how long this pub visit lasts...

So I loosened the waterblock and the problem stayed so I then drained it and took it apart took look over the chip and pins and everything is fine there so it must be the board. I've read through a few ROG and Asus forums and it seems that it's a known problem with the board not being able to provide power to that slot

That is bad luck - hope you get it sorted again !!!!

Bios flashback it to 1103 if i update mine any further it bodges it up and gives me error code 53 "memory type and compatibility". revert it back to 1103 and it runs fine. I have the same Ripjaws 3000mhz but for some reason my board wont up the voltage it just stays on 1.19v even though i set it to 1.35v manual. Hense it will only run to 2133mhz. Try updating the bios further but I cant Asus really need to sort this.

Hit the safe boot button on the board see if that changes anything.
