The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Got mine setup yesterday. Out of the box the colours were just totally washed out, but after tweaking it's looking very nice now. I'm noticing uneven brightness uniformity with the top left corner being subtly darker than the rest. Other than that it's a very nice upgrade to my old 24in 1200p HP IPS panel.

Fantastic service from OcUK, monitor and GPUs arrived ~26 hours after ordering.

Done some more testing today regarding Gsync, SLI and some games having issues.
I'm now 100% confident there's nothing wrong with my system (or monitor!) and that the few discrepencies I'm finding are simply down to the games themselves/ driver or controller issues that will no doubt get sorted.

Main thing I've found today is how the slight judder I sometimes get is due to whether I'm playing with the Xbox 360 PC controller (wired) or with mouse and keyboard (my mouse is 1000hz poll rate by the way so should be fine).

So, findings so far in the following games that I think give a good summary....

For these findings below, monitor is set at 120hz, Gsync on, SLI ON:

Tombraider
Mouse and keyboard: really nice and smooth no matter what the framerate
Xbox 360 PC controller: absolutely beatifully smooth no matter what the framerate. Has to be seen and felt to be believed this game running at 120hz with gsync. Smoothest game experience ever!

BF4
Mouse and keyboard: nice and smooth. Changes in framerate more noticable than TombRaider though.
Xbox 360 PC controller: This is where the weirdeness starts to come in. When panning view with the controller I get the jerkiness, slight stutter I've been describing in previous posts.

Crysis 3
The complete opposite to my BF4 findings above!
Mouse and keyboard: Feels slightly jerky and not smooth
Xbox 360 PC controller: Smooooth as silk!

Titanfall
Mouse and keyboard: nice and smooth
Xbox 360 PC controller: Smooooth as silk!

Hitman Absolution
Mouse and keyboard: Yet to test properly
Xbox 360 PC controller: Smooooth as silk!

So, to reiterate my main point, it seems the slight jerkiness / lack of smoothness I'm finding in some games is due to whether I use the Xbox controller or mouse and keyboard. And it seems to vary game to game.

And that fact that games like TombRaider can be so so smooth and beautiful shows there's nothing wrong with my setup.

Any thoughts?

My 2 x MSI 970 and Rog Swift arrived today. Coming from a 7990 and Benq 24" 120hz and I notice a massive difference. Gsync makes everything so smooth, including BF4. No stuttering here that ive noticed so far in SLI.

Nice one and BF4 for me is sweet with 3 Titans. No idea what is going on but will test it out with the 360 controller on slow pan to see if I get the same as you.

Sniper Elite V2 has a judder to it with or without G-Sync and the same for Bioshock Infinite. SEV2 is fine but Bio just feels and plays horrible when seeming loading new testures in.

I have been playing Alice Madness returns and fantastic game and very smooth. Every now and then, it will freeze for a split second with a slight judder but nothing that spoils the game.

Other games I have tested a lot are:
Tomb Raider (same as you and not a single fault in this game).

Crysis 3 (completed this since getting G-Sync and stunning at 1440P with everything fully maxed and smooth as silk, even in places of less than 50 fps).

The Witcher 2 - Also flawless victory for G-Sync and a sweet game to play in 3D as well as 2D.

Trine 2 - mentioning this because 3D is broken in it and needs patching. I tried it in 1080P 3D as well but no go.

Grid Autosport - Silk playing this game with no issues or flaws at all

Metro Last Light - Very smooth as well with no stutter or slow downs, even with everything maxed out and getting low frames. Plays well in 3D as well and looks fantastic.

Black Ops 2 - Flawless but only been playing the SP and will give the MP a whirl when I can be bothered (too much to play at present).

All in all, I am chuffed to bits with this monitor and G-Sync does what it says on the tin (in most cases). Sure there is a couple of bugs in games but nothing that can't be sorted out at game or driver level.

Cheers Gregster! I forgot to add bioshock infinite, which is one I tested a bit more. I too found stutter with that, and it does feel like it's when you go into a new area. This was one of the first games I noticed that this only happened with SLI though. Have you tried bioshock on one card only? You should fine its smooth as silk.

Also, please do try out the xbox 360 controller with a few games. Slow panning round in BF4 is where it's showing a real judder problem.

It's only teething troubles really. I've had this monitor a week tomorrow, and these minor niggles aside, it continues to impress me. Titanfall at 120hz with gsync is amazing as just one example.
